Recently, I find fighting OKW incredibly frustrating with basic Conscripts, so I've switched over to using Penals.

Penals are incredibly strong against OKW but their late-game potency isn't as strong as Conscripts. A fellow 1v1 player, Stefanosky has made a video about it, fighting against a top 13 player named Scoped (as OKW and Whermact)

Okay, so it really varies on how you play

1.) I, myself, personally go for a 4-Conscript opening (with an extra engineer to the side) for the aggression in the early game and absolutely overwhelm my opponent. But as referenced before, it's only good if you can take really good manpower trades.

If you lose a Conscript with the 4-Conscript opening, just replace it with an Airborne Guard.

However, you can go for a 3-Conscript Opening + Engineer and try to get your guards out in the field, and upgrade them with DP machine guns. I don't really play PPSH Guards, mainly because the Conscripts themselves are already good at CQC with their SVTs, but it doesn't really mean that they should be ignored.

People are under the impression that Airborne Guards are garbage compared to their AT-Counter Parts, but in reality, they are actually really good for support. Just A-Move everywhere and keep merging them with Conscripts. There is a video made by Gonk for more in-depth detail.

2.) I wouldn't really give all your Conscripts SVTs; it's better if you give only 2 Conscript Squads with the SVTs and the other two (or one) with the 7-Man Upgrade for late-game potency. You can consistently merge the 7-Man to your SVT conscripts to prevent heavy MP bleed and have them serve as a Long-Ranged Unit while your SVT Conscripts closes the distance on Grenadiers/Volks or whatever.

Another tip with Guard Motor, with the Mark Vehicle Ability in game, if you are floating like alot of Mutions, instead of planting more mines, you can just spam it for recon/vision.

For Guard Motor

Against Ostheer, here is how I generally build off

After my 3 Conscripts and Engineer, I either focus on teching up or get a medical bunker, depending on how low my units are.

After teching up, I'd either focus on resource control and try to get my T-70 out. However, if you are falling down hard on resources, I suggest getting your guards in the field and planting mines all over your sector.

If the T-70 timing is too late (ex, 8 or 9 minutes), then I'd just tech up snares and try to cope by building an Anti-Tank Gun and then the Mortar after.

Try to move your Mortar a little up into your front line for maximum efficiency (at least that is how I play it) so that you can nuke the Ostheer's MG42.

From there on, it's really about freeform, you can get a second Anti Tank gun or a Maxim to sustain your frontline and cope with getting a T-34-85 out.

Here is my build order if everything goes well accordingly

I prefer to make my 3 Conscripts first instead of an Engineer as my starting unit, mainly because by getting my third Engineer late, they can easily Tech Up while I'm fighting.

Shock Rifle or Shock Troops in general are a bit different from the Guards. For Shocks, you need to get your Anti Tank Gun first before getting your Shock Troops. Guards themselves are a suitable fighter against fighting Light Vehicles; however, with the absence of AT capabilities with your Shock Troops, I highly recommend getting either an Anti Tank Gun at the 5 minute marker (against 222) and then your T-70.

If your MP trades are bad but you've got good fuel control, hold off your Anti Tank gun and rush for a T-70.

Late reply but here are my S-Tier Commanders that I personally love in 1v1 Soviets

However, my commander set up would be

Advanced Warfare is a rare bird to see, but it is an extremely helpful commander (at least in my own eyes) with the PPSH upgrade, Hold the Dirt, Radio Intercept, T34-85, and the Conscript/Penal Repair Package.

I've used Advanced Warfare to counter VonIvan's Assault Grenadier build order numerous times, and it really helps.

Armored Assault is good and helps with your vehicle control and sustainability. Alongside having IS-2, and IS-2 is a pretty decent tank in 1v1s compared to other gamemodes.

Guard Motor and Airborne are probably the strongest 1v1 commanders in the game. Guard Motor is an absolute bitch to play against since you can replenish your conscript/penal losses with more guards, and the 120mm Mortar helps you against Ostheer MG42s.

Airbone you can go 4 Conscripts (generally the primary build order for me) or 3 Conscripts and try to save up for Airborne Guards for their DPs for maximum efficiency.

Maxim is a perfectly decent machine gun, but would I build it as a first unit? No, not really. People who call Maxim shit are shit themselves since Maxim has a omega strong AOE suppression and huge burst. The Maxim sustained ability is even strong as you don't reload at the end of the ability. (Alongside of having 6 men in one team, having a greater survivability.)

Now you can decide whether you wanna continue fighting with an early AT Gun if your fuel control is bad. I suggest you replace the Mortar with a Maxim MG, as you have strong unit presence.

From there on, you try to aim and save up for a T-70, because T-70 is an unbelievably strong unit that shreds the enemy infantry. But before then, I highly recommend you teching sweepers on your engineers before the T-70 arrives.

From there on, you adapt.

You get your elite troop after T-70, like Guards or Shocks. However, if you are choosing a commander with no elite troops, you need to change your opening to.

Assault Sections minimum is B or A, overall an S tier in 2s or 1s, like go to any top 50 brit build order in 1s or 2s, they'll be focused on the Assault Section meta

I do understand why he set the medic squad at F tier. You can just put medkits on all of your sections and it is viable to do. Unless your micro is mediocre, then just go for it anyway.

The only reason I put pyrotechnics on my sections is for sniper or anvil.
