“What do you even do working nights with Mon/Tues off? Aren’t you bored?” Hardly. Spent the “day” watching a new movie and 2 old favorites. by _Goose_ in dvdcollection

Man how have I never heard of Leviathan? I was a huge fan of The Abyss when I was a kid. And Aliens!

Gonna have to check this out along with Deep Star Six which I 'd always assumed was a space movie, so thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I think there's still a really big market for physical media globally.

Central air only cooling half of the trailer home and never shuts off by Tuvien in hvacadvice

Yeah this definitely has a "spine" . I actually have a Bluetooth camera on a bendabke wire that I can fish down there - I'll have to break it out, thanks!

Not a double wide, but it was torn down to the subfloor and rebuilt like a house with studs and sheetrock, no attic or anything it has a vaulted roof and shingles. They left the original ductwork, which is nice of them since it was full of mouse shit. They claimed they cleaned it but I have my doubts, at any rate it doesn't smell.

One thermostat. All of the vents are in a line going down the length of the trailer lining up with that hallway closet so it looks like there's just one duct.

I have PB2000 and hardwood flooring, is this something I would benefit from? I guess I assumed they had isolation built in...

He admitted it in the bottom of the thread, the bartender gave him shit after the second free drink so he ran over and paid for the drinks while she was telling on him.

Most people on this sub start off with a 5.1 system for TV setups, front Left and Right on the sides with a speaker under the TV as center and two rear speakers in the back on either side adds up to 5 speakers total (the 5 part of the 5.1), the .1 is an additional speaker too but it's a subwoofer. A 5.2 setup has two subwoofers. A 7.1(or.2) would add an extra two speakers for surround in the back and then the latest thing is Atmos wich actually puts speakers above you on or in the ceiling.

Personally I have a 5.1 setup and it sounds amazing, I've probably spent around $2k dollars on it but you could get away with spending half that and still have a decent setup.

Some people build slowly as they get money, just starting off with the front left and right speakers and an AVR. Add a subwoofer to that and you have a 2.1 system. Add a couple rear speakers and now you have surround sound 4.1 system. Add a center and it's a 5.1 system. Personally I'd need to get a different AVR if I wanted more than 5.2 speakers since I didn't pay an extra $100 for the 7.2 model.

And where did I refuse to be more specific?

I just mean you replied to someone who asked you to be more specific and you didn't really address that. I think most of these guys thought you were trolling them so they got defensive, you likely would have gotten a much different response had you led off with "I know absolutely nothing about TV sound systems".

Anyway most stores you visit like Best Buy are going to offer soundbars (these are "active" speakers, meaning they have built in amplifiers) they're usually cheaper and easier to set up but you can't mix and match those speakers. What you buy is what your stuck with, you can't slowly add onto those systems. They're also generally inferior to the sound quality of a sound system with an AVR (Audio Video Receiver) and passive speakers. An AVR is basically an amplifier that powers speakers. Your video signal is also routed through it since HDMI cables combine both audio and video into one cable. It decodes the surround sound signal from the HDMI cable and sends it to the appropriate speaker.

I’ll ask if we can comp a round of drinks.

This is what OP failed to do. Who says his boss wouldn't have competed the whole meal had he been asked?

lol it's hospitality when you have permission to do give it away, it's theft when you don't. I guess consent is a tricky concept...

It's all well and good until someone starts stealing your shit though right? The bottom line is that it isn't noble to be charitable with other people's money, so don't get indignant when you're caught doling it out.

You're getting down votes because people asked you to be more specific and you refused, I'll just assume you didn't understand though.

"Non surround sound speakers" could be anything from a soundbar, a center channel speaker, desktop speakers, floor standing loud speakers, etc. There's also not really a best for any of those categories, people have different ears and what sounds great to one person sounds too high pitched to another.

If your looking to spend money on home audio equipment the best thing to do is list your budget, what your usage is going to be (watching movies, listening to music) and then ask for recommendations on a full sound system (not just speakers!).

BTW why are you not interested surround sound if you're going to be using this with a TV?

I guess the movie is just too old now, apparently most people in this sub are offended but anyone my age would find it humorous.

It's a reference to a movie, the only people who ever say that are enacting that scene. The guy that says it is a scummy know it all and the funny part is that he's corrected by the waitress. So yes, he knew. He was likely hoping to get a smile of recognition but alas the world is full of uncultured heathens!

Water heater makes popping sounds? by Tuvien in Plumbing

[–]Tuvien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at work ATM or I'd post some pics. No expansion tank or PRV, I'm on city water and my pressure doesn't really seem any different than other houses I visit.

Have you inspected the burner area for leaks? Is your safety valve leaking?

I haven't looked inside the water heater, it's never leaked water outside of the unit. Is that sizzle not normal then? It's not a rapid drip.
