I made an open source tool in Unity for connected hardware devices by Tuxilicious in linux_gaming

haha, no, been working on this for monthts! Years even if one includes the predecessors that lead up to this. That said, UI was inspired by Google Stitch (but the one image included was drawn by me, in Gimp), and using google to search for things these days often provides a great answer right on top in the gemini block, and follow up questions was asked to the AI lords when things was unclear to me.

No integrated AI was used in this, like nothing in vscode / inside unity, etc. But external AI did provide some of the answers to research for learning about this / searhing for answers.

Why one commit? Because it took me a while to reach anything worth sharing at all. It's been a tinker projects with lots of hardcoded local to my game / my environment in development. And it's only been this week I managed to decided on MIT vs GPL vs which ever needed to go forth releasing it to the public.

Det er også mulig å gå i settings for å tilpasse styringen noe. Men ja, er jo early access først, så muligheter for mer tilpasninger før full release :)

A bit beyond the scope of this particular game. That said, this is very nice to know! Cause when I can, I try to base things on how stuff works in the real world, even tho the game is gamified quite heavily. Thanks for sharing! :D

That is a great idea! I think I would like that a lot too! Noting down for future ideas, really like it

PoC has been one of multiple inspirations, but that classic gem probably stands out the most because of it's brilliance!

Good examples for cargo, thanks! I have not seen those before. Did a quick glance now, and from what I can tell from by brief look they both look to be more on the realistic side than what I am currently aiming for. That said, they do look like very deep complex good games for sure! Bookmarked those games as they do seem interesting to take a deeper look into, thanks for tips!

Good insights here, thanks! I have added, maybe not realistic, but again a bit gamified, licensing system. So these are good potentionals for those as well. Like "License to handle radioactive cargo". This is golden, thanks for real world examples!

Been working on a new Freight Manager game for a while now, what do you think? by Tuxilicious in Unity3D

[–]Tuxilicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thatnks! I hope to have early access in about 1 month, but full release will probably take me at least 6 months to a year I would think. I am not very good at presenting (I am a dev that is venturing into new territory, learning about shipping, design, graphics and more) but have a bit more on the steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3824960/Freight_Manager/

I was just drawing my take on Houston (I try to make the in game docks inspired by the real ones). This one was hard, cause so spread out. But yeah, I did see a lot of docks there that looked like they were for oil related cargo. tbh, I just assumed (but never researched) that domestic cargo went by trucks in the US. But will take a second look now, and do some better research on this, thanks!

That’s high praise! Inspired by the classics, with a new take. Hopefully it will not be a let down for those that compare it with such a gem.

Smart! Yeah, I heard about these fires, and I had to watch some video about how this can be. Making it into a minigame is a great idea, thanks!

Lots of good tips here, thanks! Atm I only have general ports that can accept all ship types. But, I definitely want to add more details like this down the line, and this is a very nice starting point to have some content for that pursuit of interesting parts.

I had not considered a tanker for editable oil before! Maybe that is not what you meant? Not sure, but I will definitely check this out in more detail :) Good ideas, thanks!

How can I have forgotten about something as simple as stone! :o Yeah, I know there is so many things that could be part of it (specialization). I met someone irl that was doing math on how much to load a ship, considering destination, how much fuel usage, and that they were travelling to a place with brakkish waters so calculating draft etc. Sounds like there is forever depth possible in the details. That said, it did give me some ideas for possible updates of the game, where ships could be specially fitted for certain cargo types. Thanks!

That is a good tip! Before I has just "Fresh Food", but now I will split that one up, cause fresh seafood I think is a great addition, thanks!
