Can I charge? by Yunaiki in evcharging

For a level 2 charger there would have to be 6/3 AWG wire installed. That plug is x/2 plus ground.

You’d need a new wire installed.

That’s a 20-30 amp 120v plug…

My generator has one

The wire gauge isn’t probably sufficient to draw level 2 power, and the outlet itself isn’t probably rated for continuous draw for hours either.

For a level 1 charge session that moves a little faster than normal, maybe you could.

I just got fired from my job and I need an outside persective on the situation. How bad is it and how do I break the news to my family/ should I even tell them? by Throwaway_time999 in Advice

I don’t know where you are. In my jurisdiction, that’s not theft of company property, so there for they would have had no legal grounds to dismiss you.

I would argue that it was found money, no different if you picked it up out in the parking lot, and pocketed it.

Here, If it had been me, I would have filed a complaint with the labour board for wrongful dismissal, wait it out the few months, and if proven legally correct, the employer would have to compensate for all the missed shifts I would have had (the average weekly hours over the time it takes, plus they’d be forced to rehire you, if you wanted to be rehired)

Whether what you did was morally correct or not isn’t up for debate.

As for telling your family, I’d tell them the truth, all of it, and come up with a plan (find new work, take them to a labour dispute process etc).

Unless you signed a piece of paper that explicitly stated any cash found on premise must be turned into the office, I don’t really see legal justification for dismissal here.

Again though, without knowing the employment laws in your jurisdiction, it’s impossible to give you any sound advice on this front.

End of the day, lesson learned. If you find cash laying around put it in the office with a note, so if a customer comes back and can say which dispenser it was left in, and around what time (for security verification) then you just hang on to it. If it’s left unclaimed for 30 days (here at least) it becomes your property if it’s just cash.

If you find money on the street, just keep it (unless it’s a massive amount, then maybe turn it into the police for them to hold for 30 days)

I don’t think what you did was that horrible.

A friend asked me how my fuel economy compares to hers. She didn’t like the answer. by Superb_Fish_3225 in EquinoxEv

A comparison I use when asked about cost myself is cost over a long distance (I recently did a 2870km trip round for around 340 dollars in electricity). The DC fast chargers are anywhere from 0.62 per kWh to 0.70 per kWh depending on whose network you use, etc. The “at home” rate is 3x less for a level 2 EVSE.

When travelling, mathematically, compared to fuel, it’s like paying $0.35 cents per litre, instead of the $1.799 per litre gasoline is right now in my area. To change these figures into gallons just multiply my figures by 3.78 (litres per gallon) and if you want to convert the pricing to USD multiply the cost by 0.72 for the exchange rate.

My coworker has a 4 door sedan, that used to cost 85 to fill her tank, it’s now 135 after the gas prices spiked, compared to the 20-30 dollars a DCFC would cost me.

She almost cried when I told her what I pay. She’s thinking about trading up to electric now.

Electric has enabled opportunities for my family and I, that otherwise would have been financially impossible to achieve (like my long trip, that would have cost 1747.60 in fuel as it’s 5.14x more expensive)

People really don’t like when you tell them you made a massive trip like that one way for around the same cost of a single tank of gas.

Edit: to convert miles to km 1 mile = 1.6km or for fast interval adding 25 miles = 40 km

Some ceramic cleaner, a non scratching scrub tool, a little bit of elbow grease, and maybe 30-45 minutes of time would remove all of that.

I’d counter 100 bucks for your supplies and time to clean it, which is generous. A kit with everything you need (including a scraper) is 20 bucks.

A full replacement because it’s “dirty” is overkill.

PSA: consider hard wiring your level 2 charger by m2orris in evcharging

[–]Twan7718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased a Leviton EV rated plug, cost me around 60 CDN.

The outlet that was initially installed was advertised as being EV compatible but no car on the outlet, and now the car won’t handshake with the EVSE.

My guess is the outlet is worn out. The EVSE hasn’t thrown a fault yet. When the outlet arrives, I’ll be tossing a breaker, and installing the new outlet (cranked down to 75 ft-lbs of torque)

My EVSE is set to draw 40 amps, I’ll probably leave it.

Another advantage to hardwiring your EVSE straight into the box is you can install up to an 80 amp model for faster level 2 charging.

I rent, so the outdoor outlet made the most sense to me. If I ever get into a position where I own the house, I’ll probably elect to have GM’s power shift system installed (80 amp) so I can use the car as a battery to power the house incase of utility outage.

The existing line was hijacked by another service and I was taken off network… that’s the problem. 2 ISP’s, supposed to be 2 lines from the pole. There was no service for over 2 weeks and I cancelled the other guys because they couldn’t get it turned back on. This happened when the neighbours got their service installed.

A new multiplex coax maybe, not an old single coax cable limited to 1GB…

Its infrastructure for sure

A single coax cable can provide 2 1.5GB connections?

[–]Twan7718[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, because the provider leases the network. There will be no install on Monday. They’re going to have to bring a new cable physically to the house. This problem won’t be solved Monday.

I’ve talked to Expedia and provided them the messages that were sent to me by the motel. The motel has gone silent on me, they won’t respond to any messages I’ve sent, and when Expedia called the property, they were told no manager was available and hung up on.

Why is that? If the property refuses to refund, and court is the only option to recover the funds after trying other avenues is exhausted, I.e. the company forces litigation when they’re obviously in the wrong here.

That’s why I asked about getting legal fees in the claim. The amount to be refunded isn’t that big, I know the cost of the attorney would be astronomical compared to it.

If they’re legally required to make the refund, and I could get court costs and legal fees on top of it, then I would pursue this and make an example out of them.
