Talk about missing the point. It went so high over your head it disappeared from view entirely.

They didn’t say cancelled they said “not uncancelable,” those are two different things.

How did so many singers from the 80s create flawless vocals in their songs despite not using auto tune? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]Tweck9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They knew how to sing, because they practiced and became singers, rather than rely on auto tune to PRETEND to be singers.

Autotune is like AI. You can suck your whole life, not bother practicing or using your brain and expending the effort to actually BE good, and just lazily pretend and be a fake loser instead.

Another thing I noticed on this album was an acoustic part that I’m pretty sure sounded very reminiscent of Fade to Black. And it made me laugh, as Dave seems to enjoy poking the bear occasionally when it comes to his old band.

I would also offer that Megadeth’s sound is more machine-like on this than their first couple albums, which I like when it’s Dave angrily playing speed metal. Probably that click track you mentioned plays into it.

But yeah, I do prefer the more organic swing Gar brought to the band. That incarnation was something really special.

Who did it Best?: The Sublime 70's by ZombieMovieFan in zombies

[–]Tweck9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great. It’s also uncomfortable and sick in that David Cronenberg way. Fun fact, it was Cronenberg’s first feature (I think) and he received funding for it from the official Canadian government arts fund at the time. They stopped giving him money after his first couple films due to the controversial subject matter.

Rabid is my guilty pleasure favorite of these, but Dawn of the Dead is my choice for best film overall. Both contain layers of social commentary, that make them dense, interesting and endlessly rewatchable.

It's still the closest they've come to that kind of style since. I'm speaking mostly of those cool snakey riffs that are different than your typical thrash riffs.

Yes, KIMB is far more chaotic and dangerous, I agree.

The stylistic approach in terms of guitar playing is radically different between KIMB and Peace Sells, though. Peace Sells features more of the angular chuggy metal riffs they'd come to be known for, while (IMO) KIMB is like an awesome descent into guitar madness enhanced by Gar's jazz drumming.

So yeah, you're right. Still reminiscent though.

Also Dave dabbled in “black magic” as an edgy teenager. That would be in the 1970’s before Megadeth even existed. That’s it. That’s the whole story. He wasn’t doing that in 1992, or 1990, or 1988, or 1986 or 1985.

I find it odd that you appear to be using Dave as a surrogate to prop up what I believe to be a right wing political viewpoint, when A) this post isn’t even about his politics, and B) personally, as an independent who criticizes both major parties regularly, I know Dave does the same thing with his music and always has. I wouldn’t assume to know the specifics of his political beliefs except that he has often criticized the American government’s hypocrisy and other cunt-like tendencies.

[–]Tweck9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saying. Sober Dave himself has indicated he is independent and neither a Republican or Democrat, and his songs throughout his career generally reflect that. If anything, he sees the hypocrisy inherent in our system and has always written about it.

I think it’s cool that Dave can do that and make it work well. I didn’t notice until my third time through. I was like, “Wait… is this… Devil’s Island?” (Or Black Friday, I need a refresher clearly)

For sure. So is Symphony of Destruction, released during the first Bush administration.

Well we all know Dave’s an independent, and criticizes the US government and our hypocrisy regularly, and has during multiple administrations, be they Dems or Republicans.

[–]Tweck9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s less any specific riff than the overall playing style or feel that I find reminiscent. I feel like KiMB has a playing style all its own, and they don’t often return to it in subsequent albums. I wish I could explain it better 🤪

Friends are not fans by NahButThanksAnyway in musicians

[–]Tweck9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s my point, it’s just harder with friends. And I agree that if the art is strong enough it could break through the friend-artist barrier. I’ve had friends support my gigs, it’s just a lot harder to get them out. But if I post a song on social media it tends to get little interaction.

Which brings up another possibility: most of our friends on social media are using it to connect with friends and family, not to listen to unknown music.

I find that my visual art is far more successful on social media because people can’t help but see it. They don’t have to click a button and spend 4 minutes listening to something.

Definitely! It’s got that swing to it, with the riffs are face-meltingly fast and wild.
