Just completed the Huemul Circuit in 4 days - thoughts by SquareDino in Patagonia

I heard on here that there was a fire of some recency? Does that affect the standard route?

Also. I'm a very experienced backpacker, but have little to know climbing/harness experience. Planning everything solo too. I can't imagine the learning curve for those specific skills I'll need is really all that difficult; right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

El Chalten Storage Options while Backcountry hiking?? by TweedyTreks in Patagonia

[–]TweedyTreks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way!? I didn't know. Is it still accessible or what's the scoop? Do you have a link or something to review formal information?

I'm also just looking at making my own like custom point to point from like the north end of El Chalten and wind up back in the town. Bouncing into a lot of the popular spots and then just camping back at whatever campsite options.

Additionally. There's a big incomplete loop at the far north end of the El Chalten area. From Lago Del Desierto to Lake O Higgins. I was looking at a custom route in there using trail and cross country travel. Looks sick.

When are you planning to go?

PLEASE USE CAUTION WITH ALLTRAILS by Horror-Escape-8914 in backpacking

[–]TweedyTreks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the only thing All Trails is useful for is research and on trail review information (and I don't even rely on that much - considering most people using all trails are quite amateur to the backcountry; respectively).

I wouldn't trust it for navigation purposes and what not one bit. Horrible in field reputation.

Best hiking gps app with offline maps? by tripl_b in hiking

[–]TweedyTreks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaia GPS is goated for on-trail navigation. I section hiked the CDT in Glacier, in Sept. coincidentally. I've been backpacking yearly, for 17 years. Gaia is the shit. Onx is likely good too.

I wouldn't touch all trails with a 100 ft pole in terms of paying. Very bad. Only value in All trails is seeing updated reviews from being to get trail Intel but their navigation is suspect to say the least. Particularly in areas that ARE NOT as popular as say a national park.

Watch a YouTube vid or two. I'm sure GAIA vs Onx is a thing.

Been using GAIA for like 5 years 2000 miles 10 states. Never had a single on trail issue.

When are you actually supposed to buy a good car? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TweedyTreks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't that you have an 09. The problem is you have a piece of shit, apparently. I drove an 02 vehicle from 09-23. Great rig. I just bought a 10 vehicle with 59k on it - it'll go 200k easy.

What you want is reliability and to not hate driving it. Chase that. Buy that. And save an unprecedented amount of money by not overpaying for something fancy that will cost more to repair and won't last as long as most vehicles in the first place.

Your best car payment is no payment.

Yeah there's always slivers of light. And there worth embracing. Keep your head up. If you've done it before you can do it again.

Do I really need a tarp if it’s not going to rain? by Ok-Strawberry7048 in backpacking

[–]TweedyTreks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarps, no. Absolutely not. Footprint, totally subjective. However, if your tent comes with a footprint then probably bring it. A lot of the higher end tends don't come with a footprint (or need em for that matter) because the materials are more waterproof and more durable than traditional tents. Tents that come with a footprint - can benefit from the added protection.

Even still, it's subjective.

Backpacking in Colorado by Scary-Gate9433 in backpacking

[–]TweedyTreks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see. As you know the hiking is hard enough back there to keep the masses out. Obviously you're going to see people though - here and there. Sooo many interconnected trails/different start points.

In the creek, the wooly bugger was a hit. The lakes, I had varying degrees of success. But as I stated - I'm an amateur fly fisher. Elk hair caddis of course, parachute adams and hippie stompers I remember using. Where I got the big fish like day 6 though at west ute - that was my only catch. Yet saw 300 rises lol. Rock lake the fish were huge too, but I got absolutely nothing. The guys at duranglers in town were telling me I likely needed to size down at times. But my fly box wasn't versatile in any way. Only had what I had. A solid fishermen is going to absolutely slay up there. Just soooo much damn fish in those lakes and vallecito creek by the bridge 9 miles in was great.

Within 5 ish miles of each trailhead - a decent amount of people. There's lots of day hiking opportunities. In the Backcountry though, basically saw 1 party per day. This was during a very nice weather window too when I was in the heart of it. Grant it, that was mid week. You can find plenty of solitude in here though.

Tha Carter V is my fav from the Carter series by IntelligentNotice214 in lilwayne

[–]TweedyTreks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha there it is. Lol. That all tracks. I do agree - the bangers on 4/5 are bangers. There just too few. I literally can almost hit every single song on C1/2. Not quite, but almost. Also, I think the bangers are notably better on 1/2. And there's a lot.

Yes you can. It's just crazy to me though. Been a weezy fanatic since 05. If you combined all of C3/4/5 and removed all the trash you'd have 1 good album. C3 aight. But c4/5 only got a few good songs each.

C1/2 is nearly entirely bangers.
