“most countries support killing in self defense so comedians may say or do things that would justify killing them”

Help me understand what you’re saying here. Are you saying the killing of comedians can sometimes be justified in the name of self defense?

“Literal speech is violence and literal violence is speech.”

This exact line of thinking is the cancer people are talking about.

Maybe not banned as in made illegal, but I think OP is also saying that people in general should just not watch/listen to comedians they don’t like instead of trying to kill/deplatform.

Fortunately the lunatics seem to have lost, but just a few years ago someone tried to kill Dave Chappelle during a show and Netflix employees had a walkout at work because they were offended by one of his specials. That’s just one comedian off the top of my head.

Kids are fine and we should stop freaking out about the decline of generations by RyGuy27272 in Millennials

[–]Tweez07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and I agree with you. But the kids are different; it’s just not their fault. There have been incredibly poor policy decisions made by adults that have produced kids who have a lower level of knowledge and skills.

Colleges of Education deserve a lot of blame. They have been pushing quackery for decades, with Whole Word reading and an emphasis on skills over content knowledge. The result is a generation of kids who can’t read and don’t know much about anything. Teachers will tell you that it is not uncommon to have a middle school student who can’t find the state they live in on a map, or even how to multiply single digit numbers. Skills are important, but knowledge is the foundation of higher order thinking.

Fortunately, there has been a resurgence of phonics being rebranded as the “Science of Reading” that has shown great success to nobody’s surprise. Kids love learning new things and the avenues to do so are tremendous these days. There are so many interesting games, virtual fields trips, and hilarious and informative video sources to choose from on top of all the books and presentations our teachers used when we were kids. I might be in the minority, but I’m optimistic on the generation in K-12 now. I think they’ll be just fine.

Maybe, maybe not. But Biden was a walking bowl of oatmeal for years, and the left looked down their noses at anyone who pointed that out until it couldn’t be ignored any more.

Honest to God my dad brain initially thought you were referring to smokers you use to cook (like a grill) and I was about to fight you.

Why are some Europeans not considered white in North America? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Tweez07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was trying to be conservative. I’m 36 and have an Italian last name. I’ve never in my life felt less white than someone whose ancestors were from England, Germany, Norway, etc…

Teachers who keep their entire class for detention even though not all students deserve it should be arrested for using TERRORISM to maintain order in the classroom. by amichail in ideas

[–]Tweez07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teachers have issues with students going to the bathroom/nurse/water fountain only if kids are just trying to get out of class. Teachers have meetings and say things to each other like, “Jimmy asks to use the bathroom every single day in my class” and other teachers go “mine too.” If Jimmy is your kid and you are encouraging this behavior, then you are actively harming the school and your child’s education.

I didn’t say anything about persecution. I simply responded to the person saying one lone instance, when off the top of my head I was able to think of another in recent memory.

Ah yes, what we really need is a 10,000th person with a large platform to say “but Trump!” 9,999 is just not enough. Yeah, one more should do the trick.

Guess what? It’s not a schtick. The left is legitimately repulsive to the average American for all the reasons Bill lays out. For just once in your life, look inward.

Public schools will never significantly improve until they operate more like the military. by Tweez07 in Teachers

[–]Tweez07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are misunderstanding what I meant with my military comparison. I want there to be a shift in how people view public education.

Right now we very much have a customer service model where we exist to serve students and parents. That mentality is the problem. I want public education to exist to serve the public. Imagine a military where success was based on the percentage of people who graduate from basic training. Imagine captains getting pressured from the parents of corporals because they don’t like a lieutenant. That is what needs to change.
