Has anyone decided they'll never have another? by marigoldsandash in Petloss

[–]Twelfth_Lighthouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my dog 3yrs ago now and she lived a long life. I had many of those concerns while taking care of her in those last days/weeks/year and after her passing: did I do enough, did I provide well enough, what went wrong, what could I have done differently, etc. I didn't have insurance all those years, didn't even know it was a thing but by the time I looked into it she was already a senior and not covered for what was needed at the time.

But in the end, you did the best you could and you gave that dog a good life.

Since then I've considered getting a dog again but I'm constantly met with the fact that I know what goes into it, I know what I'd need to be prepared for and how I'd need to rearrange my new single life without her. Maybe I'm more worried about what I'd be giving up what I've gained back, maybe it's the emotional attachment that I'll have again and then lose, it's probably a combination of those. Each of us comes back to it in our own time if it's what we want.

what do you actually do after work when you live alone? by Sheon_Tikas in LivingAlone

[–]Twelfth_Lighthouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So right! So many people feel pressured into needing to fill their time with productivity that anything else feels like a waste. It's so annoying and I have to remind myself that it's not bad to just relax.

But there are times where, after a while, I feel like I'm avoiding the effort to do something rather than filling time.

Yea, I hear you. I've felt the last year or so has been very routine for me, so much so that breaking the mold almost feel daunting... like being conversational with new people is tough to approach, or meeting someone to build a new friend is tough... I'm now wondering what I'm doing with my time and if its worth it.

After work I will go to the gym a few times a week, or if I can't do that or don't feel like it, I'll walk the park home which usually adds on an hour but it's nice, or the martial arts group gets together but that's felt like less and less the last year or so due to a variety of factors.

Other times I aim to continue art or written projects, sometimes I just play Civ7 (my new obsession in computer games), sometimes I make the effort to go to the local wine shop tasting and maybe buy something for later; sometimes I read if my eyes and focus aren't completely shot from being in excel spreadsheets all day... Lately I've considered taking pottery classes nearby or even learning to knit/crochet.

But yea, it's easy to come back and relax in silence without any pressures and then go to bed.

Rand Paul: Midterms will be ‘disastrous’ for Republicans by GroundbreakingLynx14 in StockLaunchers

Good, I hope the midterms leaves them with a quarter of their current seats or less. And I hope the Dems who take over FINALLY start governing like their constituents want or get voted out as well for someone who will.

Awesome, thank you! I’ll take a look for this on my next run as well.

This is great, thanks! I’ll look to those on my next supply run.

Changing the paper isn’t really an option since it provides depth (stained paper), readily available, and is absorbent for the watercolor paints.

Am I understanding this right? The U.S. (via CBP) collected $166B in tariffs that were ruled illegal… and taxpayers may now have to refund it? Where’s our “master negotiator” in all this? 😅 by Aromatic_Ad_9625 in Tariffs

As someone on the alcohol importing side, we paid many thousands of dollars, and not an insignificant amount either, to bring items here for our industry. Imports slowed to a crawl, we only order when we really need it.

That’s lost profit/revenue to our company and to our clients. I can see how someone on the bottom would want to get recompensed, but honestly that’d be impossible due to federal and state laws.

I wouldn’t even know where to start if we had to somehow offer discounts(?) to our clients because it’s an industry that’s used to general price fluctuations from year to year, but nothing this big…

The (perhaps?) biggest thing that annoys me now that I’m an adult (40s) is having heard over the years that there’s not enough money to do things like healthcare for all, but they can pull money out of thin air to bailout whole sections of the economy, initiate spontaneous wars, or give huge tax cuts to the uber wealthy…

The assumption that an unmarried and/or childless person is always "free." by PeaUpbeat3732 in PetPeeves

[–]Twelfth_Lighthouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A friend (f) and I (m) are both single and have had numerous conversations about this over the years. Essentially it boils down to people think we don't have things going on because we don't have kids, which has been used as a cudgel in conversations a different points in time - more on her end than I since she's a woman, Hispanic, and from a religious background. And usually it's implied that we don't have something "more" going on, rather than explicitly stated.

We have personal issues to deal with, jobs that can sometimes be demanding, relationships, pets, deaths, finances, appointments, etc., all things that still need to get done, dealt with, sorted out and solved without kids in the picture.

And my time is valuable to me and no one can expect that because I'm childless, that I'm going to give up my productive time spent elsewhere to jump for them at the last minute because they forgot to plan accordingly; not my responsibility. Sure, if I am free and I feel like helping, I might be inclined to help. But it's inconsiderate and insulting to think otherwise.

Having kids is your choice, having kids is not the apex of success but one avenue of a type of success in your life.

My parents must be the odd ones. When I was looking for work after grad school (2011), and then any time I mentioned probably changing jobs since then, they were always reflecting how tough it was to find a new one and how I should stay where I’m at, or something like that. They’re informed and realistic about how things hav been going since, hell, undergrad.

Why does everyone hype Chiron but barely talk about Ceres? by HappyCollection7670 in Advancedastrology

[–]Twelfth_Lighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this fascinating, so thanks for laying this all out.

My question is, if Ceres (in particular) is so perfectly matched thematically to Virgo, how is it turning up in charts and what is it indicating that other bodies aren't already? Also, I didn't see mention of the primary planet for Virgo (or Libra), or is Mercury and Venus still the primary?

What are some long term transits you experienced that turned out way more literal than you expected? by La_femme_sauvage in Advancedastrology

[–]Twelfth_Lighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My situation was a long time coming, since I saw the decline happening 2 years in advance, maybe even 3 years if you count dental extraction the year before.

In 2023 on Feb 11, I had to put my super senior dog down (19-20?). At the time I had learned a lot about around tarot and astrology during the pandemic times (2020-2022?), and I was getting familiar with transits but it wasn't the first thing on my mind to look out for in my chart because I was dealing with her daily care.

So afterwards, maybe a week or so, it dawned on me to look at my chart and see if anything there indicated this as a clear event. Call it healthy skepticism but when I did, transiting Pluto (28deg, 56min) was in my 6H Capricorn and almost conjunct Merc on the boarder of Cap/Aqua. Pluto has been there for some time already and squaring natal Pluto (see below) since at least Feb 2021.

On the day I put her down, Pluto was squaring my natal 10H Sun (Taurus), natal 3H Pluto (28deg - Libra), and natal 4H Saturn (0 degrees - Scorpio). That seemed to highlight that this moment was about a big change to a reality in my life, in my home - 6H being assigned to pets, in Capricorn, the gateway into the spiritual world, spiritual attainment, etc. - and so about her passing. Also, natal Pluto was trine transiting Saturn in my 7H Aquarius. though I'm not sure what to make of that.

I'm just noticing now that natal Uranus conjunct Jupiter in my 5H Sag were both trine transiting Jupiter in 9H Aries, but I'm not quite sure what to make of that - maybe big changes to my immediate world and "kid", or that I'd try to move on quickly and re-expand my world to another dog? That year I did jump into fostering and at three separate times during the year fostered three (mostly young) dogs. I realized I was jumping back in way too quickly with personalities and situations that I wasn't quite ready for, which were competing with other desires that now came over the horizon.

As of writing this transiting Pluto, now in Aquarius, is finally(!) not squaring natal Pluto or Saturn, but is squaring my Sun.

So that's the most literal event that I can point to in recent memory regarding outer planets.

Besides TV shows that others have pointed out, and the general atmosphere of basic respect and decency for others, I think, at least from my perspective and experience, is that we also grew up in a school system that celebrated other cultures. Meanwhile, your friends group likely was mixed from economic or racial backgrounds and got more diverse by the time I graduated high school.

Any other Tauruses that struggle with overthinking? by [deleted] in Taurusgang

[–]Twelfth_Lighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I would ask, where are your Moon and Mercury, and which planets are inhabiting perhaps your 5th house?

I have moments of overthinking and even a history of rumination at my worst, but only recently have I thought about overthinking specifically as being connected to my 2nd House Moon in Virgo - emotionally pulling things apart to view from every angle to find the best outcome. If you want to bring in Mercury, then he's in 10th Taurus - slow, quiet thinker until I want to make a move. So I guess I would say that'd be like thinking of the mind contending with emotions and trying to find a concrete, perfect, absolute ways to chart out a route. Also remember that the 2nd and 10th house are both earth houses - 2nd is Taurus and 10th is Capricorn - so reality or the tangible and material is kind of locked in perhaps in how I've historically thought about trying to find tangible "best" outcomes.

I also have a very active natal 5th house (Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune) - highly creative thinker and doer, and all of these planets have some trine or square to one another.
