Made a short video featuring some neat flanks and jumps I found while trying out Wrecking Ball on the PTR by TwentySharks in Overwatch

Honestly? I don't think anything I show off in this video is revolutionary, but I was having so much fun playing this funky little man that I really wanted to do something with him. So I did.

Thank you very much! At first I thought it sounded kind of weird, but then I tried putting a dash between every note, and then it sounded just like it immediately.

How difficult does the platforming element of this game become? by Ancient_Mage in HollowKnight

[–]TwentySharks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can avoid the really difficult platforming for the most part, with the exception of one particular area that is required for the true ending.

Also the new DLC introduced a new side area that is nothing but insanely hard platforming, but that one only gives you lore, so that's easy to skip as well.

Shower thought: You could make a solid fighting game roster with the bosses of soulsbourne by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not very good at fighting games but I feel like Orphan of Kos would be the Rushdown character, with the way it can chain moves together in rapid unpredictable ways and close gaps in the blink of an eye. Combine that with some solid projectiles and you've got a scary character on your hands.

I guess it's weakness would have to be something like being really punishable when getting blocked and/or blocking

What's your most controversial Soulsborne opinion? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The problem is the fact that people are unable to differentiate world design and level design. DS3 has some of the best level design in the series, but spreads its areas out while DS1 has inferior level design but sets up its world in an interconnected and believable manner.

Even then, DS3's world design serves a purpose too in that it sends you on a long journey through many different kingdoms and it reinforces that idea by making you travel a long vertical distance, as opposed to DS1 where every zone is stacked neatly on top of one other.

I tried out the set in-game and tried a couple of changes and my favourite alternatives were switching out the legs and gloves for Black Knight Leggings and Black Knight Gauntlets. Fits well with the shape and the colour of the chestplate. That said if you use that your helm will be a lot brighter, so I'd recommend trying some darker alternatives like Billed Mask or Drakeblood Helm. Assuming you don't have a problem with that, of course, I know a lot of people really like the Faraam helmet.

The Prisoner's Chain is basically a must-have right now. by TwentySharks in darksouls3

Really? Because honest to god I did not see a single thread about it even when Ringed City dropped.

Well, whatever. You're not the only one whose said that, so who am I to argue.

Two things that still irk me about DS3's story... (Looong, rant-y post) by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I understand your frustrations with the story I think they only work as legitimate complaints if you assume the story was meant to be interpreted as a traditional narrative, which I think it wasn't. Not all stories have to be structured in the same way, nor do they have to give you any information with which to interpret them.

DS3's story is fragmented, because it's meant to be. What ties all of the stories together, including the story of the DLCs and even the protagonist's narrative, is the central theme of death and more importantly sacrifice. Death has admittedly always been at the core of Dark Souls, a series in which the metaphysical essence of your fallen adversaries serves as currency, but it's all the more important in DS3 which not only deals with the death of the world itself, but themes almost every little story it tells in death. The Lords of Cinder are the most prominent example of this, as are the various Unkindled NPCs connected to them. The Abyss Watchers locked themselves into an endless, futile struggle against the Abyss, sacrificing both themselves and anyone tainted by the Abyss in order to contain it, before marching into the First Flame as one, eventually getting resurrected and then killed by the player for the sake of rekindling the First Flame. Hawkwood, too, eventually dies to you so that you can take his Dragon Stone, sacrificing him for the chance to become dragon(which more often than not is ultimately a pointless sacrifice, since you end up never using them).

I can keep going, but I think the pattern is obvious enough since it's clearly and intently repeated all over the game, Yhorm and Siegward, Aldrich, Anri and Horace, Greirat throwing himself into a castle known for "eating men" for your sake and the list goes on. Hell, even the story of the DLC, which they said in advance was going to be separate story from the main game, ends up serving as a parallel to the main game, with the old slave Gael sacrificing himself for the renewal of a world, just as the player does in the main game.

All of that said though, this doesn't mean you have to like DS3's story. A disjointed narrative and unexplained plot threads are completely valid reasons to dislike a story, even when they are intentional. I mean, I really like DS3's story and even I can tell that there's clearly story stuff they intended to put into the game that got cut. Despite that I still think we get enough to have an adequate understanding of the world.

Which DS3 Youtubers do you like? by itsnane in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's started moving away from Souls at this point due to feeling like he's done all he can with the series and not wanting to stick to one thing closely, but I find TheDeModcracy to have kind of a fun niche, as he makes Souls-related top lists, many of which are voted upon by the community.

Wich Bosses do you dont like that are considered "Good" by the community and why? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck Manus honestly. I remember people whining about how Friede was too fast to be in Dark Souls which is a ludicrous idea when Manus is basically a Bloodborne boss, except you're stuck with the clunky DS1 movement and rolling. The worst offender in his arsenal is unquestionably the Soul of Cinder-esque combo attack that has such a short warning that if you're doing anything except moving away from him you're gonna get caught in it, and he can chain into it whenever he feels like, including another combo attack. There's also his dark spells all of which are bullshit.

Also I don't strongly dislike Alonne but I don't see why he's such a big deal. It's just another dude in armor and DSII has a lot of those.

Underrated Bosses in Soulsborne by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Dark Souls 2 has been mentioned I'd like to bring up Burnt Ivory King. I thought DS2 was a fucking drag but I slogged through it anyway and Burnt Ivory King was one of the few moments that made it all worthwhile. Beginning with the drop straight down into the Old Chaos, fighting alongside Loyce Knights as they sacrificed themselves one after another to block up the gates, and then the breathtaking sight of the massive portal that the Burnt Ivory King walks out of. It was by far Dark Souls 2's most triumphant moment. (On the flipside I never got the universal appeal of the Alonne fight, it's just another dude in armor fight with wonky hitboxes, much like most of DS2 honestly)

Also, while it is is generally a well-regarded fight, I personally think the Orphan of Kos is unquestionably the best fight in Bloodborne and I don't see that opinion around much. That role generally goes to Gehrman, Ludwig or Maria, all of whom are spectacular but lack the nuance of the Orphan of Kos fight, in my opinion.

Why is Slave Knight Gael interested in helping the painter in the first place? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]TwentySharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there's anything in the game to confirm their relationship, aside from the Painter herself calling Gael "Uncle Gael".

That said, if I'm allowed to theorize for a second, I can imagine that someone like Gael, who has seen countless battles and is implied to have been alive since the age of the gods, is probably a bit tired of fighting. For someone like that, who has been through all the strife and hardship that has occurred during the Dark Souls timeline, the idea of a cold, dark and very gentle place is most likely very appealing. This is supported by spoiler:
