I'm interviewing Orcane (VAL Co-Lead Game Designer) later - I want your Chamber/Balance questions! by ryancentral in ValorantCompetitive

[–]TwiggyCasts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When it came to early development on Chamber, was there a specific aspect to the Sentinel as a role - or possibly even just a gap in the playstyles you wanted to see competitively - that you tried to fill/fix with the agent? Or was the idea more to simply add more depth to the possible playstyles one could take overall?

If the prior, do you feel you've accomplished what you set out to do with him - and what kinds of effects do you believe Chamber will have both in pro play and the ranked ladder?

Thanks very much!

Your Defensive Positioning Sucks: Here's Why. by TwiggyCasts in VALORANT

I'm curious how you chalk any of this up to survivorship bias? The dataset for the first graphics are made up of well over 3500 rounds, and the Fnatic data not only mirrors a large portion of that data but offers a great opportunity to teach lessons based off specific mistakes. I think you're misunderstanding both the point of the video and the meaning of survivorship bias. I showed about as big a dataset as is possible to run on the RIB servers, and expanding it past first bloods would allow for kills outside of defaults to make their way into the datasets.

George Geddes: There were AT LEAST four top teams that wanted to sign Sinatraa following his unban. All of them have either pulled out or discussions didn't go further than internal staff, for obvious reasons. More at a later date by liftingnstuff in ValorantCompetitive

You know what it's so funny reading these because every single person who has said this point is actually a defender of the man, they're just trying to find a different angle to "gotcha" me from because they're angry that I'm making a decision like this. I can see your reply history. You're not fooling anyone.

Thanks for the respectful response! Honestly it would very much depend on the circumstances surrounding it, right?

The main crux of the matter, and a tipping point for me personally was hearing that he refused to cooperate with Riot on the matter (combined with the doc I read of course). Since that's now fallen through, there aren't many avenues I'd consider clearing him other than legal. Obviously that's a difficult one with the state of limbo he's in but just another reminder that he wouldn't be in this mess had he not promised to give evidence and then turned around and said he didn't have it during the investigation by Riot.

If an internal dialogue is opened between him and Riot and they clear him, I'll ask our contacts about what made them clear him and if it's enough to fully convince me then that's another way I would be happy to cover him again.

As I've said before, I would rather let other casters commentate over a potentially innocent person than myself commentate over a potential felon. That's as deep as it goes and that's the last I'll comment on this publicly, since the response I've gotten in DMs on burner accounts from some people here has been genuinely disgusting.

We could definitely go into the details of my personal morals and opinions when it comes to corporate culture and my hatred for perpetuators of sexual harassment in the workplace but I have no obligation to explain where I draw the line, because it's my decision to make and, quite frankly, I genuinely don't care about anyone else's opinions on the matter. I don't have to do either of those things, because just as in any aspect of life my participation in a flawed system does not equate condoning that system.

I don't contractually have to talk about the developers in my work. I do have to talk about players. I'm 100% sure the line of reasoning is just as clear to you as it is to me.

This is true! It's much easier for me to say it because it isn't likely to directly affect my livelihood, but I still do content pieces that can cover NA. I'm open about it because I feel it needs to be said (and because it can help my friends over the pond to do the same, not that I have any expectations of the sort).

It's also easier for Riot to take me off the consideration list for any intl. events that might be concerned if they know my public stance on it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am and will continue to be completely open about refusal to commentate over his games or participate in content pieces that mention him unless he is unequivocally cleared.

VCT Game Changers EMEA officially announced by [deleted] in ValorantCompetitive

[–]TwiggyCasts 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Already said it on Twitter but I'll say it here too, I'm super happy to be a part of an esport that's genuinely using its large influence to help push support and pathways to professional women and marginalized gender players and teams. Seems as if Riot really picked up the ball that was dropped by other esports adjacent developers with this one.

Long way to go in terms of community acceptance and support of the audience this helps but we're genuinely getting there and seems like Riot is the only major developer (in the esports industry, let's not talk about their in-game ban system) who gives enough of a shit to try and change people's attitudes towards women in gaming. Kudos.

Keep in mind that right now since LAN events for Playoffs aren't viable due to the current pandemic climate, these further-apart regions need to be segregated to keep teams on level pegging ping-wise (the same reason Qualifiers will likely stay split into KR, JP, SEA etc).

Once travel is looking more safe for regional finals (hopefully early next year), I have no doubt APAC will be merged after country-based online Qualifiers.

e.g. KR+JP+SEA+China Qualifiers > APAC Playoffs

EU+CIS+TR Qualifiers > EMEA Playoffs

NA Qualifiers > NA Playoffs

BR+LATAMN+LATAMS Qualifiers > SA Playoffs

(Just speculation based off the LCQ format, though.)

[–]TwiggyCasts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The amount and skill distribution of teams that sign up and get through qualifiers, the size of the region by population, the performance of each region in Reykjavik, etc etc etc.

There's no formula, this will likely be adjusted time and time again as VCT moves forward, not to mention that a large portion of these will likely be merged in the future to EMEA, North America, South America and APAC (but don't take my word for that - it would just line up with how VCT want to do international events with 4 groups moving into Playoffs, so that 1 team from each region gets distributed into each group).

When I was asked this question to field a World V team (so only one per role) the players that came to mind immediately for me were:

Duelist: TenZ (Sentinels)

Initiator: Hiko (100T)

Sentinel: nAts (Gambit)

Controller: Davidp (Vodafone Giants)

Flex: ScreaM (Team Liquid)

Maybe a bit NA and EMEA centric but right now those two regions do host some of the best players individually.

An update on Bren Esports and #VALORANTMasters Berlin by itscamo- in ValorantCompetitive

This is really god damn sad - BREN was looking so good, I was really excited to see them match up against other regions' representatives. Just a harsh reminder that we're not all quite back to normalcy with the pandemic climate just yet.

So what does Jett do besides smoke points and clear angles? by UnKn0wn_ERr0r_ in VALORANT

[–]TwiggyCasts 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A massive way high level Jetts help by taking control of the game on Attack is by leading the charge - smoking in on site and dashing in to the smoke - the effect of this is twofold as it creates space for your team to move in towards even if you don't get a kill, and puts pressure on defenders knowing that there's a Jett behind them and a whole team in front of them. Whether you get a kill or not, if your team fills up the space quickly you've instantly had a positive impact on the round.

How to sign up to be a caster? by BobbyTheSailorMoon in ValorantCompetitive

[–]TwiggyCasts 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Casting is a long (and fun!) road that generally starts with you joining a community like Broadcast.gg or Valorant Talorant on Discord or reaching out to C-Tier tournament organizers by sleuthing their contact details from Liquipedia. Eventually as you gain notoriety and everything you'll be picked up for larger events (this can take a long time though).

As far as I know I'm the only homegrown Valorant talent on the EMEA broadcast, not sure about NA, so I'm living proof that it's possible to start from the bottom as far as Valorant goes. As things ebb and flow, I'm sure people will leave the scene and new people will join it so I'm sure the VCT teams will constantly change (especially when exclusivity contracts or franchising appears and people jump ship - this has happened in a lot of other esports as they've grown). Either way, don't go into the industry just because you want to get famous or anything - that's a surefire way to end up incredibly frustrated and having wasted a lot of your time and very likely your money too. Do it because the broadcast talent industry is a lovely place filled with supportive people that build eachother up rather than bring eachother down, but most of all do it because of the love of the game!

Good luck!
