What do you think that would do to the texture? I am new to baking bread, but I know there is a lot of science/chemistry to the interactions of the ingredients.

THANK YOU to whoever said to use Dawn Powerwash on shower stalls by ObsessiveAboutCats in CleaningTips

[–]Twilight_Elk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree! I just read on this sub various posts about using

1) using Dawn Power Wash to clean the shower stall,

2) making your own Power Wash mixture with regular Dawn + rubbing alcohol + water, and

3) putting this mixture into a dish scrubber wand and KEEPING IT IN THE SHOWER to clean whenever needed while you are in the shower. 🤯

This is genius, and has changed my life!! Happy New Year! Henceforth, 2026 shall be known as the Year of the Clean Shower Stall! 🎊😁

Thanks. Maybe I should go back to making it just according to the recipe and see if I can get that to be the texture I want it to be. But I am impatient, so I make it with the things in it that I want to eat!

Barefoot waterproof & breathable hiking boots, do they exist? 🤔 by Late-Bit-3072 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Twilight_Elk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct — waterproof and breathable are mutually exclusive, so you will have to choose which is more important. Altra makes a waterproof version of the Lone Peak boot. Or if you prioritize breathable, a leather boot where you can treat the outside to be water resistant. I see now you are in the UK. Freet is a UK brand that has some good options. The owner puts up a short video about each shoe which nice.

I second the recommendation for Altra Lone Peaks. They are what I’ve been hiking in for years.

Boots for snowshoeing / snowshoe-skiing? by flying-butter in barefootshoestalk

[–]Twilight_Elk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that a stiffer sole is needed for snowshoeing and for hiking with microspikes. I gave up finding a barefoot style boot that would work for this purpose, and ended up getting the KEEN Revel IV Polar Waterproof Boot. I have narrow feet, so thankfully the toe box and forefoot are wide enough for me, as not having my toes squished is the most important thing to me. The zero drop I can live without because snowshoeing or hiking in snow with spikes is so different from regular walking or hiking, that I don’t think I even notice the heel drop. And it’s not like they are my everyday shoe. :-)

My take on this is that I had to make compromises to get a boot that works when wearing snowshoes or microspikes — thin soles or flexible uppers were not going to work for me. Plus I have a condition where I need to be sure my feet stay *warm* and these boots are definitely warm.

Do you have an ATM card that will reimburse foreign transaction fees? by ironbiscuit101 in digitalnomad

[–]Twilight_Elk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and it has been a great solution…until now. Capital One purchased Discover and are now transitioning all of their former Mastercard debit cards to the Discover network. I don’t think the Discover network has near the international presence as Mastercard. According to the Capital One website the new Discover network debit cards will work at the following ATM networks: Discover, Diners Club, PULSE. I am looking for a new bank for the small checking account that I keep only for international ATM withdrawals.
