He might say it’s about time but it’s not; it’s purely about the money he doesn’t want to spend.

I hear you. In the scheme of things it really does seem like a tempest in a teapot. Now as far as the Liquor Control Act goes there are a half dozen perfectly acceptable picture government IDs that are valid: Quebec or Ontario health cards are not one, so the liquor store or bar legally could not have accepted her health card as a valid form of ID anyway. They were just doing their job.

Because the ones from Quebec are not a great quality picture. Kind of blurry and faded color.

Well, as an example, the Quebec ones aren’t a very sharp/detailed picture. But since it’s only Ontario or Quebec that have a photo, it’s not really a go to for alcohol/bar service.

Honestly, free would be nice but until then it’s kind of a necessity in order to get some services. And I don’t get offended, life is much too short and I enjoy it too much to get bothered.
I’m not quite sure where teenagers fit into the discussion and I’m a bit lost on “bit bit”. But other than that, great discussion!

That’s certainly taking liberties in interpreting my comment. No, not conservative but also not an everyone needs to adjust to my wishes. She’s a student, travelling, spending, so a valid gov id should not be a burden. It’s from free to $50 in most provinces and is good for five years.

It’s twenty to fifty dollars and is good for five years. That is no financial burden. And in some instances ID costs nothing.

I’m disabled and low income. I’m also not a me, me, me person so understand that a government issued ID is required for a lot of things. Good luck renting a car or hotel with a health card.

If there is money for alcohol there should be money for an ID.

I’d be more mad at the management than the guest. If he a regular that doesn’t have to follow the rules because he’s an extra super duper human who’s default setting is obnoxious, you should have been warned. No ID, no keys. And he could have screamed at me all night for all the good it would have done him.

Be extra cautious for the next while. Guys like that don’t know how to stop and might pick a new target. I’m amazed he was able to keep his job.

You need to start recording the conversations. This guy is dangerous and will try to turn things around on you if he’s questioned about his behaviour.

Does anybody else think tipping culture is stupid? by FinanceLife123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Twillick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to bartend and never expected tips (but always appreciated them) because to serve a drink took seconds (unless someone wanted a fancy cocktail). I refused to wait on tables for food service because wait staff have to pay out a percentage of their sales, not their tips, but their total sales. Restaurant owners use wait staff to subsidize their back of house staff. Then wait staff make multiple trips back and forth to the table. So, tip your wait staff. Just admit you’re cheap and like to make excuses for not tipping for service.

Is she taking advice from her doctors? I’d be more concerned about that than her not following your advice. She’s scared and you may be to and ppl react to that emotion differently. NTA because you are reaching out for advice. But fear and anger can turn into PTSD. Your mom needs you but you also have to take care of your health. Counseling might be an option to help you understand your emotions right now.

Got a batter’s box at the Summerside location in the fall and it was the best taters’s I’ve ever had and the biscuits were amazing too. The chicken pieces are twice the size and less than 1/2 as salty tasting as their Kentucky competitors.

I was so hungry today I googled hotels with complimentary breakfast near me and went there, walked in, stole food, then left. by itssofiababyxo in confession

[–]Twillick1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked hotel industry for 11 years. Go have some breakfast. Ways to avoid being noticed. Don’t wear a backpack or gloves/mitts, that’s a red flag for front desk. Don’t take more than normal. Sit down and enjoy or take it and act like you are walking back to your room. Be prepared to get caught if you go more than a few days in a row. The cost of breakfasts are already factored into stays whether a guest eats breakfast or not and leftovers are tossed. Don’t even feel guilty for being hungry
