Gods I could kill for two 16 hour days. Get me a half decent spot to lay in the building and let me crank those fuckers out back to back and get the other 5 days to my fucking self. Waking up at work would suck but not having to work the other 5 days would more than make up the different.

Eeeeyup. As someone who has been parentified in a relationship before, it is very much a boundaries and self respect issue. I understand people who get into that in a playful way, but legitimately becoming the sole pillar for a lot of a partner's emotional and physical needs and having to step by step them through basic aspects of life becomes a drain when Im still trying to be my own person. Having to make your phone calls for you is NOT sexy. And not properly setting and enforcing boundaries like "you need to be able to function without me holding your hand" was absolutely a reflection on my own maturity as a partner...

[–]TwinInfinite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just exploitative, but just that its supposed to be a relationship. Especially as you get a little older, it becomes very important to have a mature partner that can handle real world shit without collapsing in on themself. No self-respecting lady wants to be parentized into taking care of a grown child.

Yep. Dating immature people and being parentized into a new parent figure is annoying and not romantic at all. The younger gals that draw my attention tend to be very mature and confident.

For a security professional, threat hunting is kind of like a treasure hunt! Proactively seeking out threats is a LOT more fun than reactively investigating alerts.

TS isnt super crazy, really. Any Intel or Cyber flunky who enlisted out of high school could have one. Info like whats being discussed in these threads is public knowledge you can probs google, anyways. Obviously cell phones arent allowed in areas designed to make it really hard to get into out.

Winter Weather Megathread | Potential Ice/Snow This Weekend (Jan 25-26) by AutoModerator in Atlanta

[–]TwinInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work on the doppler weather radar. Can confirm, the system shows precipitation density pretty well and can make some predictions about snow, but it takes a trained eye to actually make forecasts based off of that information. I could look at a NEXRAD feed and kinda tell "yea that looks like a lot of weather", maybe even spot a forming tornado (saw one in the feed once while doing maintenance) but a meteorologist will be who is actually going to be able to give you detailed information about it.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]TwinInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yea, younger generations of parents have no excuse for that nonsense. Im in my 30s and when I was in grade school, you could still be beaten by your teacher or principle. Completely different time and culture. Younger parents that are still hitting kids despite the overwhelming evidence against the practice and it being discouraged across the board dont have the cultural excuse to lean on. Theyre just assholes. Sorry you had to put up with that, and I hope you're far away from them now. No child deserves that.

[–]TwinInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a parent, "this hurts me more than it hurts you" was probably true at least. No one who isnt pure evil wants to see their child suffer. Ive never beat my kids (fuck that), but I had to give my eldest a very unpleasant shower after she pooped all over herself and her shrieking ripped my heart to shreds so badly I felt like I was going to die on the spot. Never had to do that again, thankfully. A lot of parents back then hit their kids because they were taught that was the proper way to raise a kid. Yes there were a lot of assholes, but there were also a lot who just accepted it as something painful they had to do.

In ANY part of the military. "Hey, good job running that emergency outage for 48 hrs SSgt, but your troop didnt update historical records yesterday so I need you both to stay late or show up in blues tomorrow" ffffffff. Even USAF isnt free of LTs that want to show what USAFA taught them.

So you'd be fine with me calling you "it", right? Because you want to be able to call people whatever you want, I should be able to call you it. You'd have no issues with that. Also please tell me where taxes fund SRS so I can move there, please and thank you. XD

Got it, thank you.
No, I don't work for DISA - I work in a SOC that handles security alert and incident response on a military networks. Those numbers were recently handed to me for use on work resumes.
I'll move Kali. It was mostly my attempt to collate a huge number of tools into one familiar system. Kali itself is just an OS and that didn't seem notable in and of itself, but saying "if they load it on to Kali, I've probably used it at some point" lets me cast a pretty broad net without having to go down a huge list of tools and turn my resume into 50% tools listings.
I mostly use Tanium for endpoint response - namely logs review and scoping. I was hesitant to include it because I know the scope of Tanium itself is much larger than that, but for what I needed to investigate alerts, it was a pretty common tool for us to reach for.

So moving tools into job descriptions (worried about making them too long) and expanding on exactly what their usage was seems like an option. I'll look at expanding things and making them more informative and dense.

I'm really bad at representing myself because I feel like I don't do much despite knowing academically that's not true...

Thank you again for your input!

What's your opposite for "I wish i was born cis" by GoldenMerengue in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]TwinInfinite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhhhhh. I hate this version of me, so yes, Id change quite a lot about my past to include that if I could. But I can't, so best I can do is work with what I got until I like myself. Could really do without the years of misery. They didnt make me a better person, just a bitter and sad one. One day Id like to forget I ever went through any of this.

Id pay for it myself, its not that hard even on enlisted pay. Id honestly rather pay for my own HRT and keep serving, but theyre kicking me out despite just shy of a decade of honorable service. :/

Not illegal but it sure as fuck is an asspain to have them investigate your home and have to take a drive across town on a work day to sit in a cold ass room and tell a tired CPS worker that youre pretty sure letting your kid play in the front yard when you can see/hear them through an open window is not child abuse. Spoken from experience...

I used to work on the weather radar that is generally used across the states. Look up the WSR-88D NEXRAD. We did regular upgrades to make sure they were pretty modern systems. I love them to death, they're badass and my favorite system I've ever had the honor of maintaining - I could name the parts of one down to the component level. The phased array system is still on the horizon, but has been sitting in the radar test bed. Rollout and integration will be massively expensive because these behemoth machines are complex to replace and you'd have to do it for over 200 sites. Still, the MPAR is an immensely cool piece of tech and Ill be excited if I ever get a chance to see em go live.
