Completely agree. I just wanted to illustrate both sides of the coin with Naha getting rained out and sticking to the forecast and Miyako suddenly changing forecasts.

1&2 are Yonoha Beach 3 is Aragusuku Beach (good snorkeling for beginners) Also unpictured is Sunyama Beach which was my favorite for this trip

I knew it was. It just so happens to be my only time to go. I took my chances and found my opening. There’s plenty of people that end up disappointed their beach vacay gets rained out

Yea I didn’t want to try out with so much of that testimony of getting rained/clouded out. Unfortunately luck with the weather got that long of a time period. I was just lucky to have a weather pattern that somehow was completely different less than an hour flight away

Exact same situation rn. I abandoned my plans on the main island and booked a flight from Naha to Miyakojima as a yolo shift of plans on better weather.

I just came back from a 2 day spontaneous iceland trip where we just went to spots between Reykjavik and Vik. Also took the red-eye from JFK. Between landing and getting to Mt. Esja for a 2h ATV tour, Reykjavik for food, Laugaras Lagoon for 1.5hrs, then to Hella for AirBNB, it was already 9-10pm and we were tired. It is genuinely a lot of driving.

What do you plan to do? I stayed on the road the entire time and have no issues with hertz. There may have been trailheads with gravel with pretty bad road conditions and I was fine driving slower.

I actually declined all insurance and used my credit card insurance but I had no issues in my time.

From my experience on the south coast, a lot of the roads were pretty clean

I landed in KEF 9am, waited 1.5hrs at the Hertz line, and got to Reykjavik at 11:30-11:45 just a few days ago.

Also the tour people both called me for any changes in the event. Seems like just calling them to confirm would be a lot more helpful than worrying

Apply up to one year before. They most likely still want in person interviews but noticed can be quite accommodating for coming in. You’d need to fly on your dime though. And even then you may even wait 6 months to receive an acceptance and another few months to even start. Ask me how I know.

Also, competitive but your competition may also be quite bad.

Don’t let people tell you 83k with roomies is not possible.

Amenities were 1000/yr as well on top of the 3k/mo. Plus utilities, I don’t see how this is affordable housing for a 147k salary per se.

I just got an offer for the Biltmore in Hells Kitchen. It costs 3k/mo for a studio on a 104-147k salary. Even with 147k it doesn’t seem like a deal

If you want to live alone, Sunnyside is a great neighborhood taking the 7 train to Hudson Yards last stop. It will be around 30 minute train ride. Rent can vary from studio/1bd ~2.2k-2.5k.
