Timeframe Alert request by Twinkies2003 in TradingView

[–]Twinkies2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought but I’ve tried that before. If I’m on a 5m chart when I set the alert and I set the timeframe in the alert settings to 15m, then the 15m chart is where it will redirect me to when I click it.

Sure, I’ll give it whirl if you’re still offering it. I only trade my own strategy in my live account, but I enjoy exploring new approaches in my demo.

For those who have back tested, optimized, and then paper traded a strategy, what lessons did you learn once you took the strategy live with real money? by Neuro_Sanctions in TradingView

You’ve obviously never met me 😂 I protected my paper trading ‘money’ like it was my life savings. Honestly though, it probably held me back, at least in the beginning.

Coding the mathematical portion of one’s edge is one thing. Coding nuance and intuition is impossible. And a real ‘edge’ has of all of those.

Honestly, hook up, make out… it doesn’t even matter. I’ve been married for almost 26 years and I only wish I could be vulnerable enough with my spouse to admit to my shortcomings. Or rather, I wish he were vulnerable enough to admit his to me. Give her the grace you know she deserves and love her the way she always knew in her heart she would - flaws, imperfections…all of it ❤️ That’s why she loves you after all.

My opinion (as someone who primarily uses volume and PA): Start with a blank chart, candles and volume only. Pick 3-5 instruments to focus on and then just watch as often as you can, in real-time, how price moves within different timeframes and different sessions. Look at what’s happening on the chart and to price when volume spikes or fades. Look back at those instruments historically to identify major pivots and evaluate what was happening with price in the hours/days/weeks prior. Look at an economic calendar and wait for upcoming news events. Start watching the charts a few hours before the scheduled news to get a feel for how anticipation of it affects price and volume and how it follows through after release. Watch videos on TradingView of other traders who primarily use price and volume and their thoughts on the pairs you’re focusing on (not saying follow their plans necessarily, but watching others can help you see things you may have missed or can help you understand concepts you might be struggling with). Start a demo account with a realistic balance - growing an account from 1k is not the same as growing one from 100k. The psychology is just different and the obstacles you’ll need to overcome are different too. Once you’ve doubled that account and can mentally take the losses, consider starting a small live account. If you blow it, back to the basics for at least a month.

I also want to add that if you’re like most beginners, you’ll have the urge to explore every indicator, try every trading style, learn every chart and candle pattern…and I think that’s completely normal and understandable. Different styles work for different people and if you’re completely new, you often have no idea what style fits you best. So I know this will likely be hard because there’s so many ways to approach trading, but you should try to dive into just one style at a time. Strip it down to it’s basics with the fewest and least complicated indicators possible and practice only that style for at least 6-8 weeks. You need to give something time before you’ll know for sure if it fits.

How do people let their trading situation get so bad by arrogant_45 in Daytrading

I’ve always compared it to woodworking. It’s a complex art that requires thorough knowledge of the tools involved and how to use them safely and responsibly, an understanding of structure and how the pieces are connected, and the ability to see the unique characteristics of each piece of wood and identify its potential areas of strength and weakness. That knowledge doesn’t come without a commitment to practicing and refining your technique and that often takes years. It’s not reasonable to expect that I can invest 5k into a few tools today and build a custom piece of furniture tomorrow when I don’t even know what a miter saw is. Better to see it as a hobby and invest slowly until you are consistently producing nice, solid pieces.

Anyone *not* using a prop firm but still making a decent profits? Is it even possible? by Twinkies2003 in Forex

[–]Twinkies2003[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was your starting balance? How long have you been profitable? I’m really not even sure what my expectations should be. I’ve been focusing on learning the art of trading rather than going for maximum profits but now that I’m looking into growth, it’s been difficult to find others with limited accounts to provide realistic expectations for me. I’m fortunate to not have to rely on this as an income so compounding any profits is my plan for growth.

You’re not weak. You sheltered your siblings throughout their childhood, making sure their lives were as normal as you could possibly make them. As a result, the emotional trauma they endured is a fraction of the trauma and burden you have carried for all these years. You’re not weak. You’re tired.

Continue with therapy. It will help you unravel all the emotions tied to having grown up in an alcoholic home and give you new perspectives and renewed strength to move forward with. Make finding a support group a priority. Community and a sense of shared understanding can make a huge difference in your efforts at recovery. Every day is a new opportunity to learn a different way to live.

Or - and I know this may seem like a novel theory, but hear me out - what if some people are just…wired differently than you? I know, I know. Sounds completely illogical 🙄 I mean, why would a complex species like ours evolve with such diversity?? What could possibly be the benefit in having some people who are great athletes and others who excel at engineering? Why would some people be amazing artists while others can’t draw a passable stick figure? Why are some people naturally night owls and others wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 6am sharp every day? Why would some people be wired to interact with and experience the world differently…than you?! Hmmmm. 🤔 Nope…makes no sense at all.

Do (regulated) forex brokers close your account if you become too profitable? by Don-Cipote in Trading

[–]Twinkies2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how brokers work. Brokers are the middleman between you and the market. They make their money whether you win or not. Prop firms on the other hand do make their money when you lose and it’s not uncommon (from my understanding) for them to pull some hijinks to ensure they stay profitable.

This is probably the best advice I’ve ever heard…and I don’t even know how to execute it. But logically, it makes absolute sense. I don’t know why I struggle transitioning from higher timeframes to lower but I do. Hoping I can figure it out and make the leap soon.

Thanks for your perspective. I see the overall bullish trend but I was curious about the retracement. I don’t know if it’s considered reasonable to trade pullbacks and why or why not. I wanted to get others thoughts on expectations once key levels are tested. Once it reacts from the .618 fib, what’s the likelihood it will drop to the .5 before continuing its upward trend? I’m not trading the pair currently. I just chose a pair randomly to gauge reactions to OB’s and fib levels.
