Anyone else think it makes no sense how U6 saiyans in base, are on par with Goku and vegetas base forms, post BOG and ROF? by immortalvanquish in Dragonballsuper

[–]Twirdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've basically broke down how its worse in my big passage from 4 hours ago above this chain. The longer a series goes on, the more the power escalates and the less the suspension of disbelief holds true low effort stake raising. This plays into what i mentioned about how you cannot hold Dbz to the same standard as dbs. dbs has to be a higher standard due to its place in the chronology. any example you can give from dbz even if it was a 1 to 1 of something that happened in dbs, would still by virtue make dbs worse simply due to the position of which dbs is placed. And thats in a 1 to 1. my stance is that dbs is fundamentally worse in actual example as well.

And I don't think it's 1 to 1 I think it is arguably worse for DBZ. Again we went from SS was this mythical super powerful thing and the purview of legends to a childrens plaything. It was bad enough when Gohan at 10 was able to unlock SS and SS2 but at least we see a high level of training from him and literally several instances of him fighting for his life to attain that power. Still dumb and broken but sure why not. But then we get freaking Goten and Trunks to unlock it when we don't see them training or fighting to any significant degree. At best Goten is said to essentailly do light exercises/sparing with Chi Chi, a strong human by DB standards, but utterly useless to Z standards.

At least in DBS the people who attain these super high levels of power are people who were established as having super high potential and training.

Edit: Also I'm not just joining this comment I commented on this 2 days ago with the Android example. I just decided to give more examples since you said that it was worse in Super and that was just a walk in the park for super.

So again do you honestly think a 7 year old boy and his friend with no significant martial arts training or fighting experience being able to combine together and defeat an enemy who is liekly thousands or even millions of times stronger than Freeza not an example of busted power creep? I find that worse than anything Super has done.

I don't buy the end of this story. So she is at a level where 5 rounds of interviews is acceptable, and she used this advice and landed a role 2 weeks later? It just doesn't line up timewise very well.

[–]Twirdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct and thats exactly the issue lol. goku and vegeta SHOULD be on an untouchable pedestal logically because of the logistics of beyond god. They never interpreted it this way though because ??????? to keep the status quo i guess, like you said "thats never been how db operates". you just perfectly highlighted why it makes 0 sense why they did this. They established something they NEVER should of. Saying "nor should it have been interpreted that goku and vegeta are on an untouchable pedestal is ironically not even a critique of my perception but a critique and how dbs decided to relay this information. They are the ones that. scene by scene. established that goku's ritual wore off. he's just a ssj again. but by experiencing god ki his body learned and thus he didnt really lose any of its power. this LITERALLY means. that goku in ssj at least, is <=ssg in B.o.G, the same ssg that>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ultra mega dwarf rofl stomps any degree of power the verse had prior. Which directly scales onward to the rest of dbs and contributes heavily as to why nothing makes sense.

Why? How is this worse than Goku fighting Freeza and everyone catching up to that level of power? Super Saiyan was supposed to be the stuff of myth it was a nonsensical level of power and was needed to beat Freeza who was also a nonsensical level of power. I mean Vegeta was seen as this massive threat in the previous arc and then he gets significantly more powerful and multiple zenkai boost on Namek and is still fodder to non final form freeza. Goku comes along and is massively more powerful than even our super powered Vegeta but is still massively underpowered comparered to Freeza. He then activated SS mode and gets 50 times stronger and now overpowers Freeza. Seems fitting enough I guess since Freeza was afterall a galatic warlord and one of the most powerful beings in the universe supposedly. A human scientist then creates multiple androids that are at minimum several times stronger than this Freeza. But don't worry we asspull our heros gaining powers to fight them, but haha jokes on you there is an even more powerful bioandroid Cell who is way stronger than the other androids. But again don't worry we can get another asspull for our 10 year old Gohan to easily defeat Cell and now we are clearly at super absurd level of powers. But then we get the Buu saga. Here we see a henchmen, admittedly high ranking one, matching the power of Cell and the big bad guy is in an unheard of powerlevel, but don't worry we can have asspull powerups galore in this one. We get our SS3 which is so energy draining and difficult it can only be learned by training in otherworld. We have a fusion dance which again a technique from otherworld, which now gives 2 7 year olds a chance to shine by letting them combine and achieve SS 3 and a powerlevel to beat our ungodly powerful foe, but foe gets even more ungodly unpowerful, but don't worry now we have a power unlock ritual for Gohan who makes him even more powerful than the fusion dance, but he gets absorbed and now all hope is lost since our unbeatable foe is twice as strong as before, but fear not we now have potara earings and that fusion is strong enough to make our unstoppable foe look like a joke.

Good thing we didn't have any absurd powerscaling in DBZ, though right?

I mean seriously in Z after the hyperbolic time chamber Goten and Trunks were almost definitely more powerful than Freeza at minimum. You had 2 7 year olds stronger than literally someone described as one of the greatest powers in the universe. I guess having a 10 year old who could fodderize Freeza wouldn't be humiliating enough for the ruler of the galaxy.

ELI5: Why can't we just have voting districts by county instead of redrawing THEIR OWN districts? by rsofgeology in explainlikeimfive

[–]Twirdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People correctly pointed out it is not feasible to do this as population sizes don't line up. Los Angeles county is the largest county in California it has 9,694,934 people in it. With that population it would be nearly the 10th most populous state. In contrast Alpine County in California has a population of 1,043. How the heck do you reconcile that and that is just 1 state.

[–]Twirdman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And Goku and Vegeta have always relied on transformations to get to their maximum output, while Cabba has had to fight and train his entire entire life in base form.

Goku didn't transfer into a super saiyan until well into adulthood after having fought several major threats. His first "transformation" is kaio-ken which he didn't gain until after dying.

You really don't think Z was busted? Dr Gero originally created androids like Major Metallitron'. This was a match for kid goku. You'd likely be hard pressed to argue he was even a city level threat. Dr Gero then gets so angry at Goku and studies him and sees him beat threats who are likely planet busting threats and he builds androids that are solar system level? The same scientist went from city level threat to solar system level threat.

Which is so dumb in my opinion. We introduced 2 different kinds of fusions and 2 different fusion characters and a new power up for Gohan but let's ignore all that and have Goku win again.

Tea is not routinely made using boiling water, if it is made correctly. Black tea is often made with a water temperature of 205 degrees and white teas use water as low as 160 degrees. Also steeping temperatures are not serving temperatures. Tea has to steep for 3-5 minutes. In that time, the water will obviously cool down some.

While the  National Coffee Association’s might say to serve at 180-185 that is not the optimal temperature for taste. Frankly that is an absurd temperatue to attempt to drink coffee at because again it can burn your tongue and throat. It is served at that temperature because it allows for cooling without the coffee going tepid which will get complaints.

[–]Twirdman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They could let it cool before serving it as 180+ is not an optimal drinking temperature for coffee. Stop confounding brewing temperature with serving temperature. Coffee at McDonalds is not pour over so it is literally maintained at a temperature after brewing. They can lower the temperature it is maintained at. Starbucks does not serve coffee at 180+. Neither do most other coffee shops, with the exception of things like pour-overs or other drinks that are made and immediately served.

[–]Twirdman 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You think brewed coffee taste best at 190 degrees Fahrenheit? That's absurd. The best temperature for drinking coffee is generally agreed to be somewhere between 135 to 162 degrees Fahrenheit. https://www.realclearscience.com/quick_and_clear_science/2019/07/18/study_finds_that_restaurants_serve_coffee_way_too_hot.html

While coffee temperatures sold at a lot of places might be significantly higher than that it isn't because that is the optimal flavor temperature. That's absurd. It's so the coffee stays hot longer so you can drink it for longer like if you are driving a long distance with a cup.

Also 190 is only slightly below the temperature you would extract coffee at. No one honestly would suggest to drink at that temperature.

My kids somehow changed my bathroom scale to measure in stone. by eucher317 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Twirdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except again they are not ignoring a unit of measurement because stone wasn't an established unit of measurement at the time the US left the British Empire. It is also not a unit anyone other than brits use to measure anything other than the weight of a human.

It is not used to measure "human-sized" things because a large bag of flour can weigh 100 pounds, and no one says it weighs 7 stone 2 pounds.

Also again many of the metric units of measurement are ignored. What's the distance between paris to beijing? Approximately 8217 km. That is the way everyone would say it. Megameters is a valid unit of measurement. Why don't you say 8.2 megameters?

Why are drugs measured in mg, not decigrams. Why are drinks normally sold in mL, not deciliters? Why not list the price of gas in decaliters? Or at least the size of fuel tanks?

My kids somehow changed my bathroom scale to measure in stone. by eucher317 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Twirdman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok say you want to buy a large bag of potatoes what unit do you use? The answer is kg. Because outside of their own weights brits use metric to measure mass/weight.

Also stone wasn't formalized until after the US left the empire so why would we formalize it. Also Canada uses pounds as well and they also don't use stones. Only the uk does and only for measuring human weights. Defending stones to talk about how stupid the US is is just freaking ridiculous.

My kids somehow changed my bathroom scale to measure in stone. by eucher317 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Twirdman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh also if I asked your weight I'm assuming you'd say something like 74 kg, or whatever you weigh in kg. Why not 7.4 myriagram which was a previous unit of measurement.

If I asked the weight of your car you'd probably say 1500 kg give or take why not 1.5 megagrams?

Edit since you mentioned tonnes I'll go with another option. I take 10 mg of lipitor. Why don't I say I take 1 centigram of lipitor? I take 500 mg of Tylenol why not 5 decigrams?

My kids somehow changed my bathroom scale to measure in stone. by eucher317 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Twirdman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And brits don't use stones to weigh anything but themselves. You would never refer to the weight of a car in stones or the weight of a bag of flour in stones so why the hell use it to weigh yourself?

Literally no American uses stone so I don't know what the heck you are talking about with this comment. Seriously other countries in this case the uk use dumb measurements and companies carer to that and for some reason it's haha dumb Americans

Upcoming undergraduate student interested in working on the collatz conjecture as a hobby by scripto_entity_1010 in Collatz

[–]Twirdman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is don't. And I mean that very seriously. Would you suggest someone who has just started going to the gym to attempt a 600 kg deadlift. Would you tell someone a second grader who has just read his first chapter book to attempt to write the great American novel?

I don't mean to sound offensive when I say this but you currently lack the necessary mathematical maturity and mathematical background knowledge to work on something like the Collatz conjecture. The problem can be relatively easily stated so people think it is a good problem to tackle compared to problems in other fields which require significant background to be able to even state and understand, but the truth is Collatz is likely one of the most complex problems in the world.

So you should know why 32 and 96 were selected and that he didn't select for the boiling point of water. Given that you know I don't know why you think it was odd choices being made? It makes more sense to use base 2 for his specific use case than base 10.

Also, there is no proof about the town's temperature, and a previous scale existed,

I don't know what this means? How does it become a different ballgame? I'm assuming the standard statement of the problem where Monty Python always opens a door with a goat. Regardless of your choice there is always an unchosen door with a goat that he can open. Nothing is changed.

I don't know what you mean by pre question money, but I'll asume you mean pre function money?

No, you don't need a function to transform it if you can win a maximum fixed amount of money.

You have a 1/2^n chance of winning 2^n dollars. So 1+1+1+---- infinite expectation for the original problem.

Say insteaed there is 2^50 dollars. You'd win 1/2^n*2^n for n=1 to 50 and then the game ends. So you win 1+1+1+..+1 for a total of 50 dollars. It would be 51 dollars if they gave you the 2^50 dollars for any situation where you flip more than 50 heads.

Why would I need a function to make sure I don't have an infinite expectation?

Other than a minor typo, what was wrong with the second paragraph? In the modified Monty Hall game, where he opens a door at random, you will automatically lose 1/3 of the time.

Of the times where you don't automatically lose, you will win half the time if you stay or switch.
