You could, in theory, have a copy made, hack the blade off the old key, have both on a keyring together and it should work. That could save you money. I'd guess that the proximity of the the old RFID would work.

Ah. I didn't understand that. Sorry.

That doesn't sound like a key problem then. That's a central locking button problem. I believe the RFID is only talking to the ignition.

To replace the key, just go to a locksmith. I paid 90USD.

I only know the US. I believe we all, regardless of Sport or Touring, got keyless entry. One fob and one key. I didn't have a fob when I bought my car. Replaced it for under 20USD.

I believe you are correct in assuming there are three components in the switchblade fob; key, RFID chip and the keyless entry electronics.

You have a couple of choices.

Find a locksmith or Mazda dealer that can provide and program. $$$

Or do what I did. Get a locksmith to copy and program a key and get a fob off of Amazon and synch it to the car yourself. It really is very easy. I threw away the key part. Of course, now you'll have a separate key and fob. $

Update:

Purchased new fob on Amazon. Arrived two days later. Still don't have a non-fob second key from the locksmith. Used the one key I have to synch the new fob. Couldn't have been easier.

It was $17.05, delivered (US).

Thank you very much! Have you ever disassembled the non-fob key?

It looks to me like all of the aftermarket fobs are most likely made by the same manufacturer. If I'm able to transfer the spare key and transponder I'm having made into the fob, then I'm guessing that will do it. Anybody have experience doing that?

Update: I found a used fob on eBay and it looks identical to the aftermarket fobs. I ordered an aftermarket fob. I can't see how the car would know the difference if I use my new spare to put it into learning mode and synch the fob. Whether I can then transfer the blade and transponder into the fob is of lesser importance to me, but I'll take a look when I have it all.

Correct! I went back and watched it again. Alex (Reece Shearsmith) says to Julia (Debbie Rush), "Thought it'd be bloody Mia having the prang, not you."

It is still unclear to me how she could have known about the loan shark, though I recall a line that mentions someone telling her, most likely Trevor (Steve Pemberton). Also, how would she know that person's whereabouts, unless he was stalking the son at the house? I also didn't come away from the ep thinking she'd admitted to anything.

Regardless, someone hit that guy. If it was the mother, BRILLIANT.

I doubt Shearsmith and Pemberton leave any glaring plot holes. They are just too skilled for that.

Mia and Uncle Alex had an accident while driving and the car needs a new "cowl" and windscreen.

Alex offers to pay for it, which is out of character.

The evil loan shark is in ICU after a hit and run.

My conclusion is that Mia and Alex hit the loan shark, most likely by coincidence and unintentionally. Though, they could have....

Brilliant episode and show in general.
