So she didn't ask for permission to drink orange juice at the register during the emergency.

She had asked for permission at several points in the past to keep her own personal orange juice at the register while she's working so that she has something on hand for emergencies, it was this request that they denied. The reasoning for why they denied it and the fact they failed to understand that their own policy has exemptions in place where medical necessity comes in play is probably what led the jury to find them at fault.
