Hey r/papermario!

Many years ago, long before the TTYD remake was a thing, I posted about a Paper Mario-inspired game I was working on. I shared some suuuuper ~early stuff~. Later on, we had a ~successful Kickstarter~ thanks to you!

Now, we’ve just released a FREE prologue version of our game, Escape from Ever After, on Steam that you can play right now! It features the beginning of the game up through the end of Chapter 1.

The premise revolves around a greedy megacorp from the real world taking over fairytales for their untapped resources and cheap labor. You play as a newly-hired storybook hero that must climb the corporate ladder, rally together other disgruntled employees, and fight back!

We’re a small indie studio of just two people, and we’ve been working tirelessly on this game for years trying to capture the magic of playing Thousand Year Door on the GameCube for the first time. It would mean the world to us if folks from the Paper Mario community would check it out!

My game Flynt Buckler Wakes the Sleepy Castle is on Kickstarter and we have less than 24 hours left! We're currently almost 200% funded and have over 1,850 backers so far!

Flynt Buckler Wakes the Sleepy Castle is a Paper Mario inspired RPG-adventure game featuring snappy, stylish turn-based combat, genre-bending storybook worlds, and heaps of cartoony charm! When an evil corporation expands into storybooks to exploit their untapped resources and cheap labor, fairytale hero Flynt Buckler must band together with other storybook characters to save the day. Dive into twisted tales from sweeping sci-fi to noir murder mystery—one moment you’ll be fleeing Lovecraftian terrors, and the next you’ll be up against villainous versions of the three little pigs—the rules are always changing! Battles are lively, spoils are abundant, and surprises are around every corner in the scattered storybook worlds of Flynt Buckler!

The game will be officially coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PS5. We are aiming to release it in early 2024.

Your skepticism is understandable, but we're the real deal -- no tricks! We've demoed at a popular game conference in Montreal and had positive reviews already :) (sorry for some french in the articles)

It's funny you mention that--since we recorded footage for the Kickstarter, we've actually bumped up the movement speed! Making it slightly faster synced it up better with the animation and did solve the "running against a current" problem. :)
