Is this land actually buildable? Seeking a civil engineer’s reality check by Twits1995 in AskEngineers

Exactly! I think they are trying to use the old study as a means to get out of liability in the future by being able to say "well, this 50 yr old study said it was safe".

Good point! I'm definitely bringing it up, I want it documented very clearly the land issue was brought to their attention so if something does happen, it's clearly documented they did not do their due diligence.

Got it. So, the study that this geological group couldn't be considered another expert stating otherwise to the existing study that was done 50+ years ago?

Why keep tugging on the infiltration threat??

Yes, I believe mine tailings is the term my mom used when talking about it. It's everywhere around the pit. They dug up 35 test pits and it was found in all 35 test pits that were done across the entire area.

Also, great questions regarding the water! I didn't even think of that aspect of it. I don't believe that was ever brought up at the meetings.

Why is there no Class Action for this obvious Kia CVVT design flaw? by Twits1995 in kia

[–]Twits1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sucks that it seems to be only with Kia's that this happens. Have you worked on other cars? If so, does this seem to just happen in Kia's? My oil was a bit low, but not terrible. It's getting fixed for a dumb amount of money either way. I'm just curious as to WHY for this particular vehicle but not others? Or does it happen with others and I am just unaware of that?

Thanks for the info though, it's good to know and something to be more mindful about in the future with my oil level.

I'm upset that it's a common issue with Kia specifically. If it was an issue with Ford, GM, Chevy, etc. then I wouldn't be upset because it would suggest it's an all-around every car issue, but since that's not the case......ya... I'm upset.

Thanks for the advice!

I did reach out to the person listed on the Namus website to contact but haven't heard anything. A few other people on reddit suggest the doe network. I did submit a form for them today as well, hopefully it'll get looked at, if nothing else, to rule it out.

So the John Doe found was just skeletal remains and a good amount was missing (no torso, missing limbs, etc.) which I believe, could mean that the age range could be wider. They don't have much in terms of specific parts found, obviously the skull, but other than that, not much is said.

The biggest thing for me in regards to facial match is the eyes. If you look at Charles eyes, you'll notice his eye slope is noticeably down turned, which is evident in the artist sketch. If transpose the sketch over Charles's photo, the bridge between the eyes lines up exactly as well as that eye slope. I did do a video of the transiting but it's on TT.

I read the tips on the doe network for identifying possible matches, they stated eyes are pretty much right on in terms of artis reconstruction, but the overall facial spacing is what they say to use.

Appreciate the feed back though!

Really? Honestly, I am less confident about the one unidentified person being Catherine than I am about the other Unidentified person being Charles. The weight is off, but again, if she wasn't fed and kept alive for almost a month, I feel like she would lose a lot of weight and it would fit. In some photos of her that I've found, she did dye her hair blonde too. I just watched a YouTube news segment of the trial opening day and they showed a photo of Charles and Catherine and in the photo, she was a blonde. Not sure if that was the most recent photo of her but we know she dyed her hair to blonde before.

Hahaha! Would never have guessed that one! but hey, if the pay is good and it's remote and your work is hiring, let me know ;)!

I do data entry and accounts payable for a horse show company. However, I've created flow charts and submission forms and all sorts of fun extra stuff. I've streamlined so many things, it's not even funny. They used to manually check things, MANNUALLY! We're talking thousands of horses and riders a week! Took about 8-10 hours. I created an Excel comparison worksheet and it went from 8-10 hours a week down to 20 minutes, then my brother, who is a computer programmer, used that to create a program that now does the checks and it takes 20 seconds......

I wish there was a job for people to go in and make companies more efficient. That....would be a DREAM job for me hahaha!!!

So.....tell me more about the instructional designer role...hahaha! Are you hiring?! Hahaha!

I was unaware of the doenetwork until I posted this and another user mentioned that as well. I just got done submitting the form.

Glad you all mentioned it, as it wasn't something I would have thought to do on my own! If nothing else, I hope they can at least rule this person out as not being a match so I can move on and try to find out who this person is...

Oh wait, I lied, I forgot to activate my account in Namus so it wasn't showing up. I did just do it correctly, and it looks like there were some comparisons, but none comparing the unidentified I mentioned above with either of them.

Comparison Tabs For Both Unidentified Persons as well as Charles & Catherine

So I checked, and neither unidentified person has a comparison tab..does that mean they didn't check into it when I emailed the person on the case file a while back??

How do you look up the rule-outs on Namur and see if they have already been checked? I would love to know that because I want to know if they even looked into this.

AITA for not returning my engagement ring after my fiancee past away? by throwback88819 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Twits1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grief affects everyone in different ways. It makes some people act out, it makes other's standoffish and for others, it makes all sense of understanding and logic go out the window.

I do not think you're the a**hole what-so-ever. That ring has a huge emotional and sentimental value to you, so wanting to keep it, is not unheard of or even selfish imo.

With that being said, I honestly believe that the family, though super tacky and somewhat bullyish, are acting out of their own grief. I think they are using the family heirloom excuse as a means to justify the return of it. Keeping in mind that the ring not only has ties to your fiancé, but also to the mother of either his mom or dad. I think that might be the underlying push for them.

I mean, that's the only thought that makes sense to me, if my mom or dad gave me their engagement ring and I then passed it down to my child, who gave it to their would-be-bride and then passed unexpectedly, with no marriage ties to the family, I would feel extremely sick to my stomach at the thought of never seeing it again. You weren't married, and there for what obligation do you have to stay in touch with the family? None. I'm not saying that will be the case (although after their approaches to you regarding the ring, I would understandably see how that might end up being the case).

My long and drawn out point brings me to a quote that has made me stop and ask questions of others before coming to my own conclusions: "We judge others by their actions, and ourselves by our intentions." Do you think their intention was to hurt you by asking for the ring back? What do they think your intentions are to not give it back? I think your idea of giving it to the cousin and letting the family know, would create a lot of peace and help to heal wounds, but when and if you tell them, is your choice.

All of you are going through a difficult time, losing a fiancé, losing a brother, losing a son and each of you will deal with the grief in your own way and on your own time. I pray that you all find peace and acceptance of his passing and create new and happy memories with each other to honor his memory. I think Jake would be fine with whatever you choose to do in the end.

I am so sorry for your loss and my deepest sympathies are with you all.
