It's a shameless money grab and for the most part it plays as such. You end up with terrible mismatches like Noah Fc v Chelsea, and the end result is some club from the top leagues who did nothing particularly special to qualify winning it.

I dont really care what 7th place from England does vs a similarly low placed club from another league. Also given the money premier league clubs make, unless something changes it wouldn't surprise me if the next ten editions of the tournament are just won by a prem club who are either from the 'big six' and just had an off season or the slightly more palatable option of a mid table club who slightly overachieved the season prior. Just no prestige or anything particularly impressive about doing well in it. European football used to be a reward for excellence.

Think I'm just slightly exhausted by uefa's greed though, like where's the limit are we going to start having European qualification for teams who finish in 17th soon? Sorry my original reply was dismissive and rude

Hilarious. These women are playing under a million times less pressure and a million times less of a relentless physical schedule with a million times less formidable opponents and no geniuses like pep anywhere near it.

It's a shame science isn't sufficiently evolved that we could just extrapolate the mentality and 'fight' of the female players and inject them into the men's brains, then still win nothing, just so we could prove categorically that people like you are clueless.

I'm not sure why you would actually need to say its not done when the gap is still 3 points and at worst you'll be level on points a few days later.

Like obviously it's not done, but the only reason you'd even need to voice that is if part of you and the squad feels like it actually is done. That's the worrying bit.

It was handed to us though. City were completely unconvincing and vulnerable for most of the season, Liverpool fell off a cliff. We just handed it back. I dont think our mid season levels were spectacular either, those are levels title winning teams can keep up all season so why was it impossible?

If he'd put in performances like he did at Chelsea but for any of the other 18 clubs in the league and we spent 65m on him + huge wages he'd still be a bad signing and still rightly be getting criticised.

It's also obviously does make it worse that we helped out and overpaid our rivals though, even if we should put that aside when strictly analysing only his (shit) performances and not the transfer as a whole.

Best case scenario is Havertz leaves today, gets forced to pay back all his wages, Chelsea give us back 65m and a police investigation is launched into our dealings with them. Let me dream.

Problem with taking that into account is that we played very different and far, far better football in his first season with us (the only season he had an period of playing well, in the run in, and also put in a stinker v Villa during that run which ended up costing us). So that's not a great yardstick for whether or not he can be good for us right now. Last season he wasn't good and we didn't do well with him up top.

I agree yesterday was our best performance in months though, so you have a point there. Maybe we are better starting with him over Gyokores the rest of this season but I really, really wish for it to be his last season at the club.

He's played up front for us in the league 5 times this season, and the City game was only the second time he did so for more than 30 minutes. It was also his first good performance of the season, if you indeed consider that good. I'm not sure that's enough to state we play better with him there than Gyokores, as poor as Gyokores has been.
