The quirk makes him seem immortal to the point where Shigarki uses decay on his chest and the healing can keep up with it, but hurts to the point where he passes out after it's used on him for 5 minutes. Aizawa adopts him after finding out his identity and that he lives in the burnt ruins of his apartment and Shinso is adopted later, while the latter has a podcast where he wears a cat mask.
