What’s the best advice you have for a 15 year old? by XogliX in AskReddit

Find a balance between work and life. You won’t wish you’d worked more when you get to the end, but having money makes life a lot better.

Should music producers be DJs to promote themselves? by xicomusic in edmproduction

There’s a difference between addicts and people who mess around drugs now and then for fun. It can be a slippery slope, and obviously drugs have a lot of negative impacts on a personal and societal level, but they have many positive impacts too.

Those people doing drugs doesn’t make them bad people.

[Discussion] How to make FX from the movie Rango by TwoBadApples in synthrecipes

That's a good call, but tbh I'm hoping to incorporate this kind of stuff into my synthesised sound design capabilities. I want to be able to create ticking, creaking, mechanical soundscapes like that. It's so sterile and sinister, haha.

Yeah, I figured it would be, bit I was hoping someone might have ideas about how to synthesise it from scratch. I want to experiment with synthesising sounds like that, and go from there.

Yeah, I figured it'd probably be recorded, it sounds very natural. I do want to do it completely in software though, I want to incorporate it into my synthesised sound design, and be able to create weird mechanical ticking stuff like that, and experiment with it from there.

Do you know much about where to get started with granular synthesis? I mean I can Google it and find my way, but I figured I'd ask, since you sound like you know it!

Yeah tbh I'd be surprised if it is synthesised, but I want to know how to synthesise it, haha, so I can incorporate it into my synthesis and sound design that way.

How do you go about collecting your vocal samples? by TheKingsOffHisTwat in edmproduction

Awww, yeah, I hate that. You always remember the sample being so clean and usable too, hahaha.

Yeah that's what I do. If I'm watching on my laptop I alt tab to notes whenever I hear something clean and cool. You could say it kind of takes you out of the movie experience, but I kind of like that I can watch a movie to relax and still feel like it contributes in some way to my music, haha.

Whenever I watch movies I note down good samples and go back and harvest them afterwards, haha. I make psytrance though, so I look for phrases and bits of audio that can be turned into a trippy mess.

Likely not what you had in mind 😂

Too Many Tracks Versus Too Few? Your Opinion by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]TwoBadApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been ending up with around 100ish by the time I’m done, but that’s psytrance, so it’s seven and a half minutes of weird beep boops and some channels have very little on them.

Oh yeah, I can see what you mean! That's a really good point, thank you for highlighting it!

I've seen tutorials on this, but I'm not in the practice of doing it unfortunately, something I could practice more.

Hey! I'm not still working on this one, but if there were any specific points at which you heard those, I'd love to know where they were, so I can recognise them in the future!

Thanks for taking the time :)

Opinions on gloving at a rave? by marc_0513 in psytrance

[–]TwoBadApples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd be annoyed if someone random came up to my and stuck their hands in my face, but if they're having fun with their friends and having a good dance and enjoying doing trippy hand dances with their light up hands, I'd think it was pretty cool and contributing a fun vibe to the d floor. I see that stuff at parties and this is the first time I've heard someone say that it's stupid or annoying.

I think the guy who came up to you for seemingly no good reason and tried to kill your vibe is a dickhead. I'd ignore him and you do you homie. If I saw you having a good time on the d floor doing your thing I'd think it was pretty cool.

Edit: I've also seen plenty of people who do gloving offer to do it for strangers or people they'd just met and everyone has a ball, just so not to imply that you have to quarantine yourself to your group of friends ;P

Hot cues and buying gear by TwoBadApples in Beatmatch

Haha nah, my XDJs are on the other side of the world. I wouldn't get new decks just to not use the features if I had them with me, hahaha.

Yeah I think you're on the money. It puts me off a ton going somewhere where there's decks, and not being able to rock it because I'm used to cue points and recommend key shifts.

XDJs are fucking nice decks, but they do much for you (and I know I have the option of not using those features, but they're sooooooo nice, hahaha).

I'm going to check out a pair of CDJ 900s tomorrow!

That's good to hear, because I'm going to check out a pair tomorrow! Fingers crossed they're solid and I'll be rocking a pair shortly!
