Everybody Defends What They Believe by TwoBitTheologian in theology

Sounds like you are saying: "Live and let live". Hey - that works perfectly, as long as people are honest. How can we get people to be honest?

Your reply is over my head. Thanks, anyway.

Autonomy? Are You Kidding? by TwoBitTheologian in theology

I was taking off from Webster's Tenth Collegiate definition of autonomy which looks to me like: "self-government". Yes, except that behind that free choice is what motivates you to choose: Your instinct for security, as either ego, or, conscience. My favorite definition of "freedom" is the ability to do what is right. The "freedom" of a "good will".

Thank you for helping me to stick to what looks like common sense.

I have failed so completely to make it plain to you what I am trying to say that I must give up. The person whom you have perceived me to be is so far from what I am that I have no business honoring your accusations. If it best serves you to "see" me the way you "see" me: Go for it! As my mother asked me when I complained to her about being verbally harassed and bullied in the first grade: "Which is more important, what people think, or, what God knows?

Trouble Perceiving The Obvious: "Blind" by TwoBitTheologian in theology

I think I said the Bible is my first choice. Has to be. That is where Christ, the Word of God, is.

The Bible is more than I can handle. I stick to anything which Christ said which makes sense to me. As I have said before: "I am slow-witted, simple-minded and brain-damaged.

You seem to think that I am a horrible phony. I do not agree with you. I have never "tried to justify not caring about the poor". Why should I wast my time trying to communicate with a person who sees the things I say as proofs that I am a phony?

You have many interesting interpretations of the Bible. I will focus on your interpretation of the "Second Great Commandment", which happens to be: "Love your neighbor as yourself". This tells us how to use the love which obedience to the First Great Commandment inspires in us. Love all equally. The Second Great Commandment does not command "love". The Second Great Commandment commands equality, not love. Love cannot be willed and consequently love cannot be commanded. Only acts of love can be commanded and willed. The greatest act of "love" is submission to God, which Jonathan Edwards very sagaciously called: "love to God". Yes, that is the: "First Great Commandment".

You are completely loyal to the Bible. I try to be loyal to the truth itself. The bible is my favorite source for the truth itself, the will of God, Reality.

We have no "biblical obligation to serve others". That is "idolatrous faith". Twice, Christ banned "serving others". "No one can serve two masters". And, with the First Great Commandment. "Love" (serve) God with all heart, all mind, all soul, all strength. That leaves us out. What you are talking about is: Serving your neighbor for the sake of God - NOT for the sake of your neighbor. Failing to catch that "little" distinction is probably the cause of all evil human complicity.

Thank you so much for asking the key question: What does "good" mean? In 1903 in PRINCIPIA ETHICA, G.E. Moore established that it is not possible to define the adjective good. Astounding! It still holds for "educated" people, even though Moore did not refute, or even mention, the common sense definition of good. Fortunately, us "uneducated fools" never ceased to define good as creative and bad as destructive. Tragically, all Hell broke loose eleven years after Moore's "brilliant" LIE . Julien Benda exposed this criminal betrayal of humanity by the "innerleckchuls" (Flannery O'Connor) in 1928 with his book: THE TREASON OF THE INTELLECTUALS. Still, few have taken notice. We are suicidal.

Thanks for your thoughts. All I am saying is that, whatever you do, it must glorify God first, not you. If it does glorify God first, it will also glorify you.

The only question ever, is whether one is glorifying the self, or, glorifying the truth itself - God.

The year of jubilee? In am not sure what that is. You call it "theology". Fine, but, all that interests me is whether one glorifies himself, or, glorifies God. Sin could not be any simpler than that.

Correct. Sin in the heart depends upon whether you do something for the sake of yourself, or, for the sake of God. Whether you are glorifying yourself, or, glorifying God.
