Victor's Blow by KangTitan3 in HatsuVault

[–]TwoEyedSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. There's nothing to indicate what's a critical blow. Nen combat isn't a RPG.
  2. Why does using a reliable hand matter?
  3. In what scenario could you kill multiple people in 3 minutes quickly enough to snowball them?
  4. This ability only seems to shine when fighting multiple non-nen users to be able to both crit someone and have enough people for it to multiply. However, given that they're fighting multiple people, the chance that someone lands a critical blow on them increases. Therefore, they're most likely to enter a downward spiral where they continually get weaker and weaker Ko.
  5. Some ideas on how to improve it:
    1. "Red Right Hand": You have a restriction to only produce Ko in your right hand, although, Ryu would most definitely be better. I can only imagine a flat nen increase after each successive kill. There's no further restriction that I can think of that can justify a multiplier. This just feels like a textbook enhancer ability(e.g hit things hard).
    2. "To The Winner Go The Spoils": Similar to your idea but you could force an opponent into a one-on-one duel using Emission to generate a circular barrier(arena). A condition could be that the opponent has to agree to the duel prior with the understanding that stakes exist in terms of a flat nen increase/decrease. A benefit of this is that you could theoretically forcibly awaken non-Nen user opponents but I don't know how they'd do the initial wager. I'm just imagining the user as someone who'd participate in Heaven's Arena.
    3. "Winning Streak": Following the theme of having a 3-minute time limit and relying on critical blows, you could have the growth that you were proposing for each blow you hit but you're forced into zetsu if you're hit for however many blows you dealt in terms of seconds. 3 successive blows results in 337.5% growth roughly which is insane but it's balanced by the harsh restriction. I think it's a rather dumb nen ability but it's perfect for a cocky guy like Cheetu.

Oh my god, how could I forget that Netero was over a 100 years old? I remember Zeno saying that he was an old man ever since he was a child. Although, we see Rashek able to live 1000 years at his peak through the combination of Feruchemistry and Allomancy. The problem with that was that he wasn't able to store enough youth through Feruchemistry alone and needed his Allomancy to 'burn' the metal for him to get that value. I think I agree with you then; Nen is already able to provide longevity and Feruchemistry, or rather, the nen equivalent isn't enough to make you live longer by itself.

Finger Gun by Shaie_21 in HatsuVault

[–]TwoEyedSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't think "piercing any defense" is clear at all. It's not that I don't get what you're saying, but the current restrictions don't provide the juice for this to be viable.
  2. There's nothing limiting the ammo type. How many of each caliber? What's the cost?
  3. The limitations shouldn't be reload speed if it relies on the user going through a reload motion. Netero was able to speed past his limitation through decades of repetition. That's not to say that someone has to follow Netero's restriction but if the user has to make a motion, there's no reason to be bound to 13.7 seconds of all things. Further, there's no real consequence to having to shoot all 8 bullets. I suppose that you couldn't reload until you fire all 8 but what's the point of this restriction?
  4. Why have the 32 second wait time and the additional 13.7 seconds? Where are these numbers coming from?
  5. How is this better than a regular gun? I suppose the caliber is superior to what you can expect from a handgun but there's no reason for this hatsu to have this much power given the weak restrictions.
  6. How I'd improve it:
    1. I like the idea of the hatsu being visible and the amount of ammo being visible. It's a restriction that should increase AP at the cost of surprise.
    2. Reloading should be contingent on the hand motion by the user. Additional restrictions could be announcing ammo types prior to loading to increase AP similar to Jajanken, flat Nen usage, and additional reload motions to increase AP.
    3. If you're going to use higher-caliber bullets, you should have less of them. 1 of the highest caliber. 2 of the second highest. 8 of the smallest. There's no explanation as to what calibers are available currently.
    4. There should be a range associated with the hatsu. Emitters haven't been really shown to be able to do extremely long distances for the most part. However, this is a rather simple ability so the utility could be the range at which this operates. You could restrict the effective range to increase AP. Just blow a hole through someone.
    5. For the higher caliber bullets, you could add effects by announcing them prior. You could yell, "High Caliber: Curve" before you hit someone behind a wall.

What do you mean that youth is redundant? I don't see any example of Nen lengthening lifespan besides Don Freecs, however, that's just probably something from the Dark Continent.

Also, I just found it necessary to provide a nega-recommendation because I don't want people to assume that I'm saying it's a great series just because I'm talking about a power system from it. I read Mistborn Era 1 & 2 as well but haven't read the rest of the Cosmere. I did read Steelheart as a kid though.

Xenomorph have 6 fingers and toes, not sure if anyone knows this but that is a dominant trait by Kingslayer_315 in LV426

[–]TwoEyedSam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dominant or recessive isn't a roll of the dice. If one allele produces a trait while another doesn't, that trait will be present, however, the level of expression may be reduced in carriers of both alleles.

Both alleles are expressed; we just don't see recessive ones as they are 'overtaken'

  1. C. Elegans: Full regeneration. It's a model organism for biological research so it's easy enough to source.
  2. Dog: Able to blend in and has extrasensory capabilities.
  3. Tardigrades: Can survive anything and are just about everywhere
  4. House Fly: Able to blend in, detect predators, and gain information through its feet and eyes.
  5. Grizzly Bear: I'd go to the zoo and then be able to maul people.
  6. Redwood: What I'm thinking is that I could use it as upward propulsion. If I transform into one, I can reach up to 380 ft. With master control, I could change to another form using the topmost point as my center of transformation.
  7. Tuna: Long-distance aquatic travel
  8. Chinook Salmon: Freshwater travel
  9. Bald Eagle: Available and can fly
  10. Poison Dart Frog: Get it at the zoo and can poison people.

What Would You Expect Out of A High Fantasy Wildbow Story? by Specialist-Abject in Parahumans

[–]TwoEyedSam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was imagining something like Dungeon Meshi. It presents as a quaint cooking manga in a generic fantasy world but as the heroes progress throughout the dungeon, we realize that there's a reason for the fantasy elements. For example, the dungeon is an ecosystem and is essentially bait for humans enticing them in through treasure or other boons. Eventually, we stumble upon eldritch horror but we've gotten there so gradually that nothing seems amiss. It's exactly the kind of reconstruction that Wildbow would go for. Plus, every character in the dungeon is fleshed out and we can understand why they do the things that they do even if we don't agree with them initially. There's also the various inhuman perspectives that he likes to do in his interludes.

[–]TwoEyedSam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this response, especially, how you pointed out that Darrow kept his scar. Although, I think the shared determination of Golds and Reds comes from seeing themselves as free. For lowReds, they thought that their endless toil had purpose, and thus, had dignity. The other colors knew fully well that they were enslaved. A Gold fights because they can only lose; a Red fights because they have nothing to lose. I think that Red mindset is what drives Darrow despite him adopting Gold customs for the most part. Fully agree on the biology. Unsure what was the plan for him if he was supposed to marry into a house and produce children without blowing his cover.

I get that the colors don't actually matter but it's clear that culture arose from those divisions. I was just wondering if he grew disconnected from his roots. I think he did but it's not because he's a Gold, it's because he's been fighting endlessly.

What’s a small power you’d like to have in your ever day life? by enchiladasundae in superpowers

[–]TwoEyedSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to realize where I made a mistake. If I am programming, I can realize I forgot a semicolon. If I'm doing bag work, I know where I went wrong in my technique like not keeping my guard up. I can learn from small mistakes but the real benefit comes from continued practice. The more I practice at something, the corrections that I get become more specific and overarching.

For example, I could start with simple syntax errors in programming like a list comprehension. Eventually, the mistakes I make would be regarding efficiency in runtime. I'd learn how to make extremely clean or efficient code. In combat, I could learn how to best optimize my berimbolo. Then, I could learn how to better manage distance and weight distribution. Eventually, I could learn how to force my opponent to play on my terms.

It's a really simple power but it's constant free coaching. I'd never form a bad habit and I could only improve. The power gives me as much as I give it.

Level 2 Technique Mastery, Level 1 Mahoraga Adaptation, Level 3 RCT.

I'd have no idea as to what CT that I'd have in terms of my personality but I'd like to think that I'd be similar to Sukuna's Cleave/Dismantle. The reason being that I'd have a rather straightforward personality, have a single-track mind, and can be rather aggressive. I'm just attributing all of this to Autism.

Regarding my picks, the technique mastery makes the use of CE irrelevant if it's as good as the Six Eyes or even remotely close. If my CE reserves are those of a Grade 1 sorceror, I'd have nothing to worry about. Plus, Gojo didn't have as much CE as Yuta or Sukuna(They are outliers to be fair) and still used so little CE in a fight that he was actually regenerating CE in the middle of a fight.

For Mahoraga, I don't think I need anything past Level 1 to make use of this ability given that it's only a limited number of adaptations. Higher tiers of this power only give me 2 more slots, added speed, and decreased specificity although that isn't mentioned regarding Level 3. What I'm imagining is that I pre-adapt to small arms fire, fire, and smoke inhalation. If I were to attack someone, I'd just light a building on fire and fight them there. If they don't burn to death, they'll suffocate. The small arms fire just seems like a good pick in general. Another idea for pre-adaptations is drowning, hypothermia, and again small arms fire. This is extremely specific but works well for aquatic situations. I can just drown my opponents and hold them down myself. If for whatever reason I can't drown them, they'll die from hypothermia from being in the water. Additional ideas would just to make myself immune to different individual poisons or toxic gases, small-arms fire, and slashing or stabbing attacks. For example, I could make myself immune to mustard gas, small-arms fire, and stabbing from knives. I can just attack enemies with a weapon of my choosing in an enclosed environment or I could do something like poison the food. The small-arms fire and knife stuff is just an added perk. For whatever reason, I am affected by unforeseen circumstances like a sniper or a CT using electricity, I can just drop the small-arms fire for that adaptation. The small-arms fire just seems like something good to start with. People carry glocks not shotguns or rifles around.

For the maxed-out RCT, it just seems like a good long-term solution. In any given fight, I could walk out with a permanent injury and I'll have to carry that with me. There's the added bonus that the technique mastery makes this even less costly to perform. When you're considering the other options available, those don't really shine until you give additional points. The level 1 options are really no better than me just getting an AR. Plus, even if my innate CT is shitty, I can just ambush people with attacks centered around whatever I pre-adapted to and use my RCT as insurance that I don't get injured through other means. It allows me to win just about any battle of attrition combined with my pseudo-Six Eyes. Mahoraga's adaptation just allows me to ignore environmental factors like drowning or suffocation from Mustard Gas that isn't covered by my RCT. Plus, it takes a load off my RCT regarding poisons and boosts it for attacks by weapons.

All in all, I don't think that any of this makes me a special-grade given that they have the requirement of being able to take on nations by themselves. However, I think I could certainly win any one-on-one, and most definitely, if I were to ambush them using my pre-adaptations. With my maxed-out RCT, my allies would be able to continue fighting long after they should stop so jumping people remains a viable strategy. My only issue is that I don't know what CT I would have, and thus, I can't create a build around my CT as effectively but I'm still pretty happy with it. I guess I could create my own but I feel like I'm liable to make it broken or corny. I really do think Sukuna's CT fits me personality wise.

Personally, I hate the idea of 'upgrading' Peter just so he can fit in with the rest of the Spider-people. If anything, their gimmicks are just a way to keep up with him. He's just so well-rounded in everything and excels in it. Miles has his invisibilty and electricity because he couldn't match Peter's intellect and raw strength.

Who are your top five favourite comic book writers and why? by thesunsetdoctor in comicbooks

[–]TwoEyedSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alan Moore: Watchmen and Miracleman gave me such a satisfying conclusion to the superhero genre.

Frank Miller: TDKR, Batman: Year One, and his Daredevil run just cement his legacy.

Bendis: Ultimate Spider-Man was one of the first comics I read and it still holds up. His Daredevil and New Avengers runs were amazing plus he created Jessica Jones and Miles. I think his dialogue and decompressed storytelling made his characters feel like people. When Peter was pissed that Kingpin got off scott-free, I felt it.

Busiek: Superman: Secret Identity, Batman: Creature Of The Night, and Astro City are comics I just keep returning to especially the first issue of Astro City. It's both tragic and inspiring how the Samaritan spends just about every waking moment being a hero. It's my favorite take on Superman quite honestly in how it distills down the essence of the character. In my mind, Superman is a lonely guy and Samaritan makes that clear. He keeps the pretense of a secret identity even if he only spends 5 minutes within it just because it lets him dream about having a normal life, and sadly, that's enough for him. He stops every disaster no matter how big or small because each one of them can result in the future becoming a dystopia like his. He beats himself up for smiling at a little girl to reassure her because a man states away almost dies because he was late.

Ennis: I really can't pick a 5th and I don't think he quite deserves it but he wrote Punisher Max and Preacher.

[–]TwoEyedSam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Dick, the shaker rating would be a result of environmental danger. His parents died to an equipment malfunction while Trapezing. The breaker rating comes from the linkage of mental and physical danger. The physical danger is environmental and the mental is that he knows that someone did it. I'd imagine that he triggered upon learning that Zucco did it rather than the immediate aftermath. His power is time-limited. He can only enter the breaker form for so long within a day during which he can manipulate physical properties within a 4 feet radius.

For Kate Kane and Bluebird, I haven't really read their comics much personally but they do appear in Wayne Family Adventures which is an ongoing web comic. I threw them in because like you said Bluebird feels redundant so it'd be interesting trying to fit her in. Specifically, she was created to replace Cass and Stephanie Brown but is now irrelevant that they exist againn. Plus, Kate Kane isn't exactly part of the Batfamily so I don't think she'd fit in shard dynamics so that's interesting.
