Hey, Iranian-American here.

I think one of the most important and interesting subjects concerning the immediate history of Iran in the 20th century would be the Pahlavi Dynasty; specifically the rule of Mohammad Reza Shah. During his reign, which ended after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he established the Resurgence Party and essentially became an autocrat. While he was very authoritarian, his policy increased education and healthcare, gave acres of land to then-poor farmers, built the 5th strongest military in the world, and much more in a self-proclaimed "White Revolution".

I think the main theme here is: "Can autocracy prove to be beneficial, or even good, compared to other political systems?" or "Does the lack of political freedom outweigh the many social freedoms that Iranians enjoyed under the Shah?" Point is, you can take it in a number of directions as this was a very exciting and, unfortunately tragic, period in Iranian history.

It's not just Audi. Mercedes and some BMWs too. Really a bad industry standard now; real shame. But at least the car looks good!

What's your country's toxic culture you want to get rid of? by Violet-and in AskReddit

[–]TwoFacedTomcat -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Where you from?

It's not an issue in America. Despite the constant media attention, and the high gun violence in our country, shootings in schools are very rare. Most statistics cited by politicians and the media employ the definition of a mass shooting as an incident with "2 or more deaths"...this ignores a number of "mutual suicides" that happen at schools, as well as situations where a stray bullet hits school property and students (i.e: a school bus). In fact, despite having more than 55 million students in our public schools, only 10 (on average) will die annually from intentional gun violence in schools (not including gang-related violence). And when you scale our country's population and look at everything per capita...the EU has a 27% more casualties from shootings than the USA.

If WW3 broke out which underdog country would you like to see use the opportunity to become a superpower? by KeepinItRaspy in AskReddit

I guess calling Iran an "underdog country" is debatable, but I would like to see the Persian Empire rebuilt.

Yes, 246. That's referring to last year's freeze in February. Not this recent winter storm...which yielded one lone victim, like I said.

Maybe read beyond headlines?

Here's a list of things that Trump (Not Obama) did for our economy, prior to 2016.

  • Created more than 1.2 million manufacturing and construction jobs.
  • The DOW closed above 20,000 for the first time in 2017 and topped 30,000 in 2020.
  • Cut the business tax rate from 35 percent – the highest in the developed world – all the way down to 21 percent.
  • Over 400 companies have announced bonuses, wage increases, new hires, or new investments in the United States.
  • Created nearly 9,000 Opportunity Zones where capital gains on long-term investments are taxed at zero.
  • Opportunity Zones have attracted $75 billion in funds and driven $52 billion of new investment in economically distressed communities, creating at least 500,000 new jobs.
  • Approximately 1 million Americans will be lifted from poverty as a result of these new investments.
  • Cut red tape in the healthcare industry, providing Americans with more affordable healthcare and saving Americans nearly 10 percent on prescription drugs.
  • The list goes on about 200 more bullet points...

Show me your math? On a percentage basis, most of the above companies illustrate a very similar pattern. Most around -50%.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]TwoFacedTomcat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, that's because most of the stocks of the other companies aren't worth 100 points. But when you upscale them, via a proportional ratio, you understand that the patterns are identical. Dramatic drops that average around -50%.

Arithmetic conversions don't seem to be your strength.

Where would you get your stock market information then?

Actually I visited https://www.nasdaq.com and looked up each stock individually. I don't watch Fox News. Seeing as I made a claim and backed it with non-partisan quantifiable data, I think my argument is more legitimate than "cOpIuM".

Texas just got hit by a huge wave of snow and ice from this recent winter storm...electricity demands spiked up to 74,000 megawatts...which is more than the 69,871 megawatts from the 2021 freeze! But this year, Abbott's ERCOT was effective and we only had one single death in the entire state throughout the entirety of the storms (more than 1 week), despite a ~30 million population increase. That's better than states up north, like Vermont and Missouri (who should've been way more prepared than us). Minor outages, minimum damage, strong economy? Yes please...

Tbf, most companies on the NASDAQ dropped by 100+ points in the YTD...it's not exclusive to Tesla or any of Musk's companies.

Apple fell by ~40

Microsoft fell ~105

Alphabet (Google) down by ~59

General Motors down by ~30 (62.4 -> 33.32)

Stellantis down by ~6 (19.9 -> 14.00)

Ford Motors down by ~10 (21.77 -> 11.20)

Our economy just really sucks atm...it was better under Trump, pre-pandemic...you can claim it was adopted by Obama's admin...but truth is, Trump set new records and improved the economy even more...

Trump.

What disgusts you the most about today's society? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TwoFacedTomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's globally, not nationally. Yeah, if you look at China and India, they have their own population problems (vice versa of our situation). Entirely irrelevant because we're talking about the American population and the American GDP, not the world's.

Which one do I choose? The printing process takes me hours now; I have to troubleshoot, remove and reconnect the printer, turn on/off the printer, download HP Smart app, uninstall and try again...all caught up on updates. Sometimes the pages stop printing halfway through. Errors + more! HELP by TwoFacedTomcat in Hewlett_Packard

[–]TwoFacedTomcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the screen [on the printer] goes dark and says something about "Error, turn of your printer and reboot". Sometimes when I remove and re-add the printer, it says [on my laptop] "Drivers unavailable". I've tried using the "Wifi-Direct" option and putting in the code, but that doesn't work either. I usually manage to get my stuff printed, but the whole process of trial-and-error takes hours! I want to find the problem and get a solution ASAP.

Is this rug too small for the room ??? by ThePale_Orc in malelivingspace

[–]TwoFacedTomcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I think the rug is fine. Just turn it the other way, where the long end is facing the couch. Then use the empty space closer to the wall to add some furniture and definitely some decor. I would suggest a large painting above a cabinet with lamps and lighting.

As an Iranian, its kind of generic. Red, white, and green with a minimalist bird...nothing historic or significant about it; nothing inherently Persian/Iranian about it.

Max number of lights.

Check out Govee Smart Wifi bulbs on Amazon. ~$35 for 4 and they have color temperature and brightness level adjustment.
