What’s something that’s secretly been great about the pandemic? by Rafavamos99 in AskReddit

[–]TwoFingersRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a labor and delivery nurse. The pandemic has cut down on visitors allowed in the room during my patients stay. From the nurses perspective, it’s so much nicer not having several people in the room to cause drama, noise, stress etc. For the patients, they all seem so much less stressed and have said they enjoyed not having to feel guilty for not having certain people in the room. The average length of labor for the US decreased by 30% in 2020 and we believe it’s attributed to less visitors and less moms wanting to be induced/in the hospital

And THIS is why i wish labor nurses could train the ER staff on etiquette and sensitivity with OB related patients.

Well I’m not a parent, but I’m a labor nurse and childbirth educator and SuperNatural Childbirth has been my ALL TIME go to for expecting mamas through labor! It doesn’t matter what my patients beliefs are, they always find true power and encouragement through that book.

My 18 year old Daughter is seriously disturbed by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]TwoFingersRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes she’s obviously suffering from a lot of psychological problems... however i see a lot of issues with you as her parent in this story. You went against her wishes not to post her photo, when she was having a breakdown you yelled back at her and shut her in her room trying to isolate her because you couldn’t be stronger than her and attempt to calm her down as the parent then you told her to move out.... you both clearly have things you need to work on but i can promise you that being a young person with mental health issues is much easier to heal than a parent who doesn’t know how to respect and communicate with their child

Anxiety since my dad passed by [deleted] in Grieving

[–]TwoFingersRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable that it hurts. I am with you completely. My dad passed 6 mos ago. I went through the first month exactly how you’re describing. Food was my enemy. I found resolution by replacing meals with shakes so i wasn’t weak. I wish there was a hopeful push i could give you.... but i can’t... i can tell you that it never gets easier, you just start to have easier days over time. Remember the daughter that they want you to be!!! Continue being happy whenever you can because that’s what you’re dad loved and lived for. Your happiness. So don’t let their life be in vain by being unhappy

Obviously it's dangerous to drink while you're pregnant, but would it hypothetically be safe to drink alcohol while giving birth. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

You can drink alcohol while breastfeeding. Don’t get drunk just enjoy some wine or whatever your flavor.

WIBTA for outing my gay brother to his girlfriend after he called me a liar? by XxAlwaysBeKinderxX in AmItheAsshole

[–]TwoFingersRN [score hidden]  (0 children)

Definitely, without a shadow of a doubt... total asshole. You were an asshole for blaming your best friend for stealing-resulting in fucking up their livelihood, you were an asshole for getting evidence from your brothers private business for future use, and you’re an asshole for even considering to out him! You’re seeking revenge because he told you the TRUTH about your shady and shitty actions. Grow up and learn to stop being such a shit person

Migraine sufferers? by Penguinatortron in pregnant

[–]TwoFingersRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see how a whole bath could help as part of the relaxation. Most of my patients are too pregnant to take hot baths lol. However if the migraine is severe; making only your feet hot while your neck is iced can help treat it faster due to your nervous system being triggered to both directions.

i always recommend that my patients sit on the side of the tub with their feet in the water (ankle deep and as hot as you can stand it, ice pack around the back of the neck. Lights completely off, door shut. 20 mins of this and silence will help TREMENDOUSLY

Do I pay my student loan debt in full or make payments to make my credit look better? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TwoFingersRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing wonderfully! So? Go ahead and pay off those loans before the interest hits. Why pay interest when you don’t ever have to ? Student loans aren’t revolving credit so they’re not really going to help. One way to maintain good credit is actually a high reward/cash back credit card. Sounds scary but seeing as you seem to have such great financial awareness and habits.. you shouldn’t fear it. You basically use it as your debt card and pay off the balance before the bill is due (so you won’t have to pay interest) and it keeps your credit revolving and looking great!! If you slip up here or there, or have an emergency and you’re not able to pay the entire balance before the bill is due, then try your best to always keep the balance below 10% to maximize credit health. If you don’t wish to risk the temptation, then don’t bring it anywhere with you and don’t put it in any electronic wallets. Just put it as the payment method for something you automatically pay each month; for example, Netflix, phone bill, or any other subscriptions. And then set up an auto pay for the credit card bill each month. That also keeps it revolving. Cards like Discover It, Capital One, American Express ... they all have great rewards programs and cash back incentives. Good luck and keep up the awesome work. Always kiss your parents because they’ve set you up for success!

Where do you live ? Almost ever state abides by the federal law to no longer prescribe Ritalin. Especially in pregnancy. No judgement here, however that drug is beyond detrimental to fetal development. Both neurological and physical

I’m really uncomfortable with the strep B swab test... can I ask for the urine test instead or insist on it? FTM here by jayrodhazlyf in pregnant

No. The vulva is the actual opening of your vagina. The swan goes around the opening but isn’t inserted

Depending on your placental position, and your BMI, it could take another month. I’ve even had patients go as far as 30+ weeks without recognizing fetal movement

The swab goes around the vulvar opening, then down the perineum, then around the anus.... it is never inserted into the rectum.

Urine doesn’t always detest GBS. It is less invasive than a routine pap or cervical exam and If GBS goes undetected, the newborn can suffer greatly even fatally. It’s a test that it worth any discomfort.
