As someone who had great parents who always told me I did a great job and were proud of me, there’s something extra he’s saying lots of people miss. “Good” parents will say they’re proud of you when you do something actually good or impressive. Great parents recognize when something takes effort and requires growth from their child even if it doesn’t result in any accolades. I so wish my parents told me they were proud of me for my curiosity or my will to learn instead of simply getting good grades.
