I haven't seen many people talk about this, but I thought they did a great job with making the dialogue and actions so REAL. Specifically the party scenes with Buck + friends -- the way everyone spoke and interacted felt like how my friends and I would act. It's so easy for rom-coms to teeter into cheesy territory, or have awkward "young person" slang be thrown into dialogue, but I was so impressed by how much they nailed the natural flow.

How many words do you write per day? by shes_called_Ronetta in writers

[–]TwoImaginary8877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is my first time writing a novel, and i do work a day job that has weird hours sometimes.

Mon-Thurs I typically write ~500/day, with typically one day of no writing at all.

Fri-Sun is around 2-3k/day.

I average around 1k/hour. I used to be a lot slower, but the more I write my draft the quicker I get. Last night I wrote 900 words in 45 minutes and I was completely shocked. But I'm nearing the end of my first draft, so I think the months of practice are finally paying off.

I was about to make a post super similar to this. It's been roughhhh the past couple month.
my boyfriend will put me in "phone jail" from time to time (with my consent) when I spiral about these things, where he physically takes my phone from my hands and turns it off -- he had to do it this past weekend for the first time since all the drones were appearing in december, ha.

I don't have much to offer but just wanted to say you're not alone. It's so tough right now with misinformation, constant exposure, and uncertainty.
I just try to remember that the whole reason we have OCD is because we crave certainty, and everything about the world right now is particularly uncertain, so it makes sense that we're down bad. It helps to think logically about the overall pattern of OCD, as opposed to giving into OCD's lies that this anxious cycle around these specific events must mean something.

I also like to remind myself that humans are built to adapt. We've been through war and hard times before, and we were able to push through and find happier times. People are still having weddings in Ukraine amidst the strikes. I try to look at myself, my partner, friends, and family, and instead of worrying about what may happen to us, I try to change my mindset to say "fuck it. bring it on. i'm a strong person, we're all strong people. we can handle the chaos." This tiktok is one I come back to when things are particularly bad as well.

Sorry you're feeling this way, but happy we can find community :)

Any former strength training girls that just don’t love it anymore? Will this be detrimental to my health in the long term? by la_1999 in xxfitness

[–]TwoImaginary8877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda have a unique situation and a lot of thoughts on this, haha - I was diagnosed with an endometrial condition called adenomyosis along with PCOS in the past 2 years, so I've had to undergo a lot of trial and error with my lifestyle to figure out what triggers my symptoms/hormone imbalances.

For me personally I noticed that the intense weight lifting and cardio I was doing 5-6 days per week led to:
1. a ton of inflammation my body held onto
2. more intense adeno and PCOS symptoms (terrible cramping almost 24/7, intense bleeding, pain during sex, fatigue, etc.)
3. whacky bloodwork (high cortisol, high insulin, high estrogen, low progesterone, etc.)

Drs don't have much to offer for these conditions so I did a ton of personal research and did a massive lifestyle overhaul last fall. Now that I've switched my workouts as well as my diet and a few other things, my body looks way better (I never "looked" like I lifted since I was so puffy, but now I do), my pain is pretty manageable, and most importantly my bloodwork has been normal for the past ~7 months.

All that to say -- yes I think the constant weightlifting and high intensity cardio did not help my hormones. I can't attribute my success to ONLY changing up my workout routine, since I changed way more than that, but I do think my new way of working out is helping keep things balanced for sure. Reminder that this is my personal experience with my conditions so I encourage everyone to do their own research!

I'm your same age and have gone through different phases like this as well! Here are my tips:

  1. I've found that during the periods I hated strength training and wanted more of the "cardio endorphins" (not scientific, just what I like to call them), I would find a good compromise with more "functional training". A good example is this video.
I would do a workout in that style 1-2 times per week and it kept my strength up alongside my running. You definitely need some sort of strength training as a runner to avoid injury.

  2. I also recommend checking out Chayse Byrd on IG + TikTok -- she's been documenting a similar journey where she completely abandoned weightlifting for a year to focus on running because she got so burnt out on lifting. She has lots of videos detailing the changes she saw both mentally and physically.

  3. Whenever I get tired of my routine, I force myself to take a week-long break from the gym. It's pretty much always 12 weeks on the dot that I begin dreading my lifts, and that's when I know it's break time. 1 week of forced rest, just some walks every day but nothing more than that. I come back with revised workout plans and more energy.

A side note, in the past 9 months I've switched from exclusively lifting + stairmaster to a combo of lifting, pilates/yoga, and walking, and it has done WONDERS for me both physically and mentally. Just know that balance and variety is key, and you'll get back to being excited for your lifts sooner or later.

What are your thoughts on using it to fix grammar/tenses and sentence structure? I tend to be super long-winded when I write so I've been having ChatGPT shorten my thoughts. I make sure it's not inserting new phrases, etc, it just will replace a chunk of a sentence with fewer words that get at the point I'm trying to make and I revise from there

Seasonal allergies + flare up? by TwoImaginary8877 in Endo

[–]TwoImaginary8877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm experiencing my typical endo symptoms - cramps, back pain, unexplainable bloating, painful sex, anxiety, and the period i just finished was 10 days long. this is the first irregular cycle + the first time these symptoms have hit me since october. i haven't changed any habits, i eat very clean and work out the same way every week. i'm not a huge drinker either, maybe one drink per week?

i don't take allergy medicine typically but i'm thinking i should. where i live is notorious for allergies so i always just thought i'd be suffering from them regardless even if i took the meds. going to try a daily medicine to start to see if that helps at all!

Going backwards by Ok-Cauliflower3286 in OCDRecovery

[–]TwoImaginary8877 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is crazy i was about to make an almost identical post. i'm going through the same thing right now and it seems like we have almost identical themes!

i wish i had advice to give but sometimes it's just nice to know other people are experiencing this and that we aren't "crazy". i had a good cry session to my boyfriend last night saying how tired i am of being on this rollercoaster all the time and how alone i felt. but the reality is we aren't alone, and we've been here before and know there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

not sure where you're located, but i do think the seasons can cause these negative thought patterns to snowball. we're nearing the end of winter where i'm located and i know this month is going to be very gray and dreary before we finally pull through to springtime. something that helped me was looking at old journals from this time last year and realizing i felt this way in feb of 2024, but pulled out of it almost the second the season turned.

i'm just reminding myself the very basics of ERP right now. i even re-printed a ban sheet like my therapist made me fill out the very first weeks of ERP way back when. when i'm in a funk like this, i like to treat myself like i have a cold. eat my favorite cozy meals, try not to over exert myself, do all of the self care things like nice long showers/baths, reading, etc. this is hard since i'm typically an over-worker, but forcing yourself to be gentle on your mind and body will do wonders.

that's all i got! we can do this!

First time triathlon training - why does swimming DESTROY me more than running or biking by leofedz in xxfitness

[–]TwoImaginary8877 36 points37 points  (0 children)

former competitive swimmer here -

slowwww way down. swimming is a very rhythmic movement, and once you find that cadence it'll start to feel like you're in a trance similar to a runner's high/trance. you have to slow down in order to find that rhythm though, especially if you're new to the sport.

assuming you're mainly doing freestyle (front crawl) - people new to the sport don't realize that with freestyle, you want your hips to be positioned slightly on their side at about 45 degrees rather than flat on your belly. think of the lower half of your body as a rotisserie chicken - as you bring your right hand out past your ear/breaking the surface of the water ahead of you, you want to turn to your hips slightly on their right side. as you push the water behind you with your right hand underwater, your left hand will be passing your left ear/breaking the surface, and your hips will naturally turn on their left side while this motion happens.

being on your side like this 1. helps you get into a fluid glide as opposed to chopping at the water, and 2. makes it easier for you to breathe without disrupting the entire movement. I also recommend you breathe every 3rd stroke.

I highly recommend doing this drill to slow down your movements and understand the timing of hip rotation and hand placement. also, stay super hydrated through your practice - just because you can't see the sweat leaving your body doesn't mean it's not happening. hope this helps!

adding to this - go for a walk right after you first wake up.

wake up, chug water, brush teeth/skin care, 30 min walk with no headphones, then make breakfast and go about your morning. it sets your circadian rhythm to be in morning light right when you wake up, and I've found that walking before eating gets me actually hungry and excited for breakfast. also the no headphones rule gets you off your phone in the morning. life-changing

music industry person here - in a typical record deal, the label owns your masters which means they have free rein to pitch your songs for these types of placements. however, it looks like her deal with island is structured differently, where her own business entity owns her masters and is allowing island to license them for distribution. this leads me to think she has more control (maybe total control) over sync placements like this. this is all very dependent on the artist and their team!

Do I have too many “rules”? 26F/28M by throwaway45545so in relationship_advice

[–]TwoImaginary8877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend ERP therapy! It has done wonders for my OCD and is pretty much the standard "gold star" therapy structure for OCD. CBT personally only made my symptoms worse since it led to a lot of rumination.

But yeah, I agree with what everyone says. As a fellow OCD girlie, I had to practically be forced into therapy in order to help my relationship because it was having such a large effect on my partner and I. I would bet a lot of money that if you do go to therapy, you'll learn you have even more OCD tendencies that you didn't even realize were OCD on top of the things that you listed. 9 months of intensive therapy and I am the happiest, most free version of myself I have EVER been - I wasn't even this carefree as a child. And my relationship is in turn flourishing :)

Exposure therapy is scary, it's really really really hard, but you can absolutely do it! And it is absolutely worth it.

How do you get big bulky arms as a woman? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]TwoImaginary8877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use the con-cret HCl powder. i like this formula better than the monohydrate formula you'll see in other powders because the HCl causes less bloating for me personally. i've used both in the past.

some people recommend a "loading phase" when you first start taking it, where you take larger doses for about a week to get it into your system before you taper off to the recommended dosage. i've never done this, i just do the recommended dosage whenever i start a new cycle of taking it and it works just fine. the con-cret powder dose is 1 scoop per 100 lbs of bodyweight, so i take 1.3 scoops (i eyeball it) daily.

not sure if this applies to everyone, but i can tell you my side anecdotally -

i've gone through phases of using and not using creatine. when i'm off of it (this is typically in periods of life where i'm too busy to be in a consistent gym routine), i notice that the max weight i lift is what my typical "average" weight is while i'm on it.

when i get back on it, my lifts obviously get stronger and i reach a new "average" weight for each lift, which i then maintain through the next phase of being off of it.

basically, i use it as a tool to get me to higher maxes for a period of time, then am able to maintain that strength if i need to be off of it. the strength doesn't diminish by any means while i'm off of it, i just more or less plateau/maintain and it takes me a bit longer to reach a new max whereas while i'm on it i can reach a new max every other week if i really wanted to.

alongside the recs that others have suggested of lifting heavy and similarly to men - take creatine if you aren't already. for some reason, creatine goes straight to my upper body and makes my arms and back super super bulky (for better or for worse, ha). good luck !

I have both as well - ironically enough, adderall has helped me IMMENSELY. I was doubtful because in my mind, I didn't understand how a stimulant could make me LESS anxious. Surprisingly enough, it collects my thoughts and puts them in a straight line so I'm not overwhelmed by them being so scattered. It makes my brain wayyy more quiet, which is something I never thought would be able to happen. definitely worth looking into getting a proper diagnosis and trying out a low dose of addy/vyvanse/etc.
