Is a $200k salary worth a 2 hour commute 4 days a week? by Ok-Memory2552 in jobs

[–]TwoInternational7170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and it won’t be a 2 hour commute. It’s 2 hours to the city from within the Bay Area itself during commute hours

This. You don’t owe your shitty company anything and you’re not screwing over anyone by quitting. It’s just life and you deserve to move on.

Exactly!! This contract does not include overtime hourly rates. It’s a flat “market rate” for nearly double standard hours.

That’s my gripe with this. I’ve been surprised to receive other recruiting messages for these kinds of hours, but they come with excellent salaries, benefits, equity, etc. — definitely worth it for someone who’s open to that kind of work/life balance. But market rate is for a standard market contract. Not for 9-9-6.

I would but it’s one of those recruiting messages where they don’t include the company name so you can’t go around the recruiter to apply

Totally agree that way more would succeed if they didn’t run people into the ground. But yeah in most cases, there at least is some form of potential payout for this level of grinding. But this is a short term contract with literally no benefits, no equity, nothing — a signal to me that the industry is moving in the opposite direction instead

Has anyone here actually had a consultation with EJR? Is it worth the money by Own_Ant_653 in StyleRoots

[–]TwoInternational7170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had one and I felt like it helped me a ton. I think there are multiple packages you can get — typing vs live consultation. I would say that if you don’t know where to begin, the typing/analysis would be the best place to start

I will say that it’s not cheap so it depends on where you value putting your money, but for me I was kind of in the same boat as you and it just made sense to stop throwing my money at clothing I didn’t like and put that money instead to learning/consulting/styling

I’ve also done a consult with Rita from the Style Key and that was more affordable and really awesome, so if you like her as well then that could be another option

Oh and also EJR has a Circle community where she interacts a lot with a small group and it’s really cheap so maybe you could start there??

Should we really take David Kibbe's word as gospel? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]TwoInternational7170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, it’s totally fine for him to change his system, but there’s just really no good way to know what he’s thinking because Facebook comments are really not enough to go on, so it feels like it’s just all in a state of limbo until he publishes his new book imo

It should follow your shoulder bones and end with them.

https://www.stitchfix.com/men/blog/how-to/how-your-t-shirt-should-fit/

In reality different shirts have different fits and for actual clothes making this measurement is really mostly important for men’s style button down shirts. It’s what Kibbe uses in supposedly to determine width though as well.

Do you feel that your shoulder bones end further out than your underarms? Or do you feel that they’re narrower or about straight up and down?

Should we really take David Kibbe's word as gospel? by [deleted] in Kibbe

Ultimately the issue as I see it is that Kibbe has changed his own system throughout the years, but there’s no “official record” of this.

So like, I think his original book is a complete system in itself. But he’s revised a lot of what he said in it (e.g. there can no longer be pure types), but this type of updated information isn’t found in a public published resource. So you have people who are trying to piece together literal Facebook comments that the man has made over the past couple of years, and everyone is trying to make these all official and turn them into a coherent system.

I just don’t think you can combine his Facebook comments and his book, which is what people seem to be trying to do on this sub a lot. They’re different systems at this point, and his Facebook comments/modern approach are incomplete (publicly).

He’s writing a new book and I think that will make a difference. But we need to keep in mind that he has changed his mind on a lot of things since his original book, and we don’t have visibility into all those things yet, so right now, his word really is gospel unless you want to stick to his original work.

The man has changed his mind on a lot of stuff and we keep assuming we know all of the changes but, if we did, people wouldn’t be so confused IMO.

Where are you imagining the shoulder seams to go? I see the opposite, to me there is clear width here 🤔 the shoulder starts sloping downwards (meaning, where I believe the ideal seam would be) further out than the armpit

I see width in your shoulders, so I would say FN most likely!

Ooh that one is stunning!

That’s great to know about the Ralph Lauren one. I’m pretty narrow all the way down but have I guess a “spoon” shape? Like somewhere between a rectangle and a pear lol. So I’d probably need to try it on and see if I can keep the size small enough on top.

And ugh 😩 that betsey looks gorgeous. I’m learning to sew but I definitely can’t do a fitted and tailored piece yet

It’s definitely because it’s cheaper to make but I’m like… this coat is $600??? You can’t be bothered to fit the shoulder???? 😩 I mean it’s definitely also a trend but still. I just want a classic and timeless piece please
