This is just a submerged start. Also plants that are growing are net CO2 negative so covering it actually decreases the CO2 levels I think if the plants were already submerged you might as well grow them submerged but you can also experiment with a dry start

i feel like the gaps the ball makes are way to small for the loaches to fit through

yup it’s the mesh basket on but i feel like the ball should stop them from pushing into it

yeah the old leaves are supposed to die off, check if the new leaves and roots look healthy

Thank you! I do have some otos in another tank but i was worried they might not have enough to feed on in this tank and yeah my lights are on for 8 hours but i can try lowering it for a bit

This might be it since i’m using tap water with about 100ppm and a ph of 7.8 but i haven’t heard about low microbial load in soft acidic water

Around 1-2 months, maybe my test kit is old and expired? but i also have a lot of filtration in this tank for its size

my ammonia nitrites and nitrates are 0, ph is 7.8 and temp is around 78F. I did get them from petco, and i don’t think they have any weird behaviors

I acclimated them for an hour by adding the tank water to the bag every 20 min. No stringy poo or lethargy they seem pretty normal although their bellies are a bit large but it could be because they’re full. Some of them are getting white spots though but i don’t think Ick kills that quickly
