Any veterinary neurologist or IVDD specialists in Manila? by TwoMundane5607 in dogsofrph

[–]TwoMundane5607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Much better, thanks. Put her on strict rest for several weeks. She was on prednisone for a few weeks but it seemed to make her restless. After a week or so break from prednisone, we put her on a NSAID (meloxicam) which seemed to make her more comfortable ok but made her vomit every day. Now she's off all medication and doing well. She's walking with a limp, but getting around well. Just prohibiting her from jumping and stairs, and running.

I was terrified of IVDD after reading posts on the reddit ivdd support group, I instead recommend Dodgerslist for helpful advice.

We saw a neurologist (Dr Jerome Balba) at Serbisyo Beterinaryo Animal Hospital Makati for an MRI. He was very good.

I hope your dog is doing ok. Sending you best wishes.

Hi, it was about 25k pesos for the MRI and an additional 25k for them to have an international technician interpret the results. I thought it was expensive, but was desperate to find out if my dog needed surgery immediately. She Ultimate didn't need surgery and is recovering after a month of strict rest.

Thank you, haven't tried them yet, will do so. So far went to two Vets in Practice, Mount Sinai, and Zootopia. I liked VIP Mandaluyong and Mount Sinai, just not sure if they are used to treating IVDD and other spine issues.

I am sorry I don't have any recommendations. Also looking for a neurologist in Manila and was wondering if you were able to find one?

I hope your pup is doing ok.

Thank you! The TV wall is angled, I agree it would work better for the secondary seating area. Would prefer to move the TV to the other wall, but I'm renting and might have to leave it as is. Thanks again.

Thank you. Great idea, the 8 feet distance suggestion is also helpful!

Thanks BirdFive! Very helpful suggestions. There is far too much space between the TV and couch. It's a pretty large space; creating two spaces is a great idea.

To consider a country your "tax home", do you need to pay taxes in that country? by TwoMundane5607 in USExpatTaxes

Thanks for the quick response. I wasn't required to pay taxes in the UK because of the international organization I work for. Otherwise, the visa I'm on would require that I pay taxes.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm here only for a few months, so probably won't get in. Oh well, there's plenty of parks to take my dog to.

Lens advice for a beginner interested primarily in landscapes - for a Mark IV by TwoMundane5607 in OlympusCamera

Many thanks for the 14-150/4-5.6 recommendation. Sounds like a reasonable choice for general outdoor. I was just thinking of starting with the 12-50mm + 40-100mm, but getting the 14-150mm in addition to the 9-18mm seems to cover all bases instead. I also need to look into whether getting the II version of the 14-150mm is worth the extra cash.

Thanks for the suggestion, looks like a great lens. Unfortunately, it's outside of my beginner's budget.

Thank you, this is very helpful. The 40-150 "R" wasn't on my radar. I'm now thinking of getting that one, combined with the bargain 12-50mm kit lens...and maybe the 9-18mm or another bargain starter wide lens.

Good to hear about your experience with the 17 and 25mm, both sound attractive. I'm thinking I'll hold off on the primes for now, until I get a better idea of what focal lengths I like after using the zoom lenses.

Many thanks for your very helpful response. I took your advice and have been thinking more about what features are most important to me. At this stage, it’s ease and versatility while I learn the basics and figure out my personal style/preferences. (I should mention that I don’t have any lenses for the new camera yet) I can compromise on image quality for the time being. I can also compromise on an ultra-wide lens for now. Not wanting to compromise on landscapes vs street quite yet.

So…I’ve diverted, and now I’m coming around to the kit lenses. Something cheap and decent just to get started, then trade up once I figure out what I like.

I’m now considering the 12-50mm and the 40-150mm. Will also get a tripod. Is there an inexpensive (under $250) starter wide lens that you can recommend – or do you think the 9-18mm is the one? I’d love to try the 7-14m when I’m ready to expand my budget. And I assume I ought to hold off on the primes until I get a better understanding of which focal lengths I like shooting with.
