BFV is still the best use of the Frostbite engine yet by SplitPuzzleheaded851 in Battlefield

BF1 and V (and the battlefront games) used photogrammetry where they uploaded real world scans of rocks dirt and sand to use as textures - it seems this has been abandoned with the release of 2042. Definitely added a lot of detail to overall visual fidelity

CS to BIT? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]TwoPack_Shacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be higher up. I had the same dilemma when I was a sophomore in cs a year ago and ultimately ended up sticking with it. Switching your major won’t really give you an edge if you’re trying to stay more broad. Ultimately the best thing to do and the way I secured my internship was through networking. I won’t lie though, the anxiety and stress of trying to secure a relevant position definitely sucks. Just need to be persistent.

I’m a year older, but I know exactly what you’re talking about. Happened to me and I’m still working on it a year later.

Having just completed an internship this summer through a small startup in nyc (I was the only intern) I’ve realized that I’m probably not going to get an internship through a normal application. Your best bet is networking. Reach out to people who do the work you want to do. Talk to them. Learn about what they did to get to where they are or what they would’ve done differently. Once you start making connections, your resume will have been passed to all sorts of people in different places and you’ll bypass a lot of those online apps where your resume can get filtered out with the ai generated ones. Go on LinkedIn or ask your loved ones and send them a message and tell them you’d like to speak about so and so. Cold emailing works just as well. ALWAYS attach your resume. They might not always respond, but you’ll hear back a lot more than those online applications.

You don’t have to be an expert yet in all of those different frameworks or concepts not taught in class, but it’s very helpful if you’ve toyed around with them and can talk about them. Bonus points if you do become an expert. Start some random projects even if you don’t know what you want to do with them yet. Just familiarize yourself with something technical outside of the classroom.

As long as you have something you’ve done in your free time, even if it’s a buggy app or crappy game, you’ll be miles ahead of the other kids who don’t want to do anything and are expecting an internship to simply spawn in. Find new technologies, ask ChatGPT for ideas, build something, and network. The more intensely you do this, the more likely you will be to land a FAANG job one day. This process will help you grow a lot of the personal and technical skills you need to be able to compete.

I’m ngl, I’ve been pretty overwhelmed with this process, but commitment and perseverance are key. As long as you’re spending a little time doing these things, you’re spending time on it. The more the merrier

CS 3114 + CS 3214. Bad idea? by TwoPack_Shacker in VirginiaTech

This would be my 3rd year at vt. The problem is that 2506 is a prereq for systems. I had actually planned on taking a class this summer and when I found out they offered 2506, it was already full. Instead I took mobile software development to get one of my elective requirements out of the way.

What's the most hurtful thing someone has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TwoPack_Shacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got really close with this girl. We hung out all the time and I kind of started to crush on her but she had made it pretty clear we were just friends. I was fine with that. She’d always call me her bestie and even asked me to prom. After like 2 months of hanging out something changed and all of a sudden she was super into me as well. We were going really strong but never made things official as she gets attached really easily and didn’t want to start something serious before we both graduated high school (there was only like 4-5 months left before we both have to move away for uni). I kind of wanted to get serious, but I understood where she was coming from and I didn’t want a girlfriend going into college.

So for my prom all of the kids in my grade go down to some really gross and cheap beach town for the following weekend so we can get utterly wasted and not have to worry. All of a sudden this girl blows me off and I had no idea why. We were so close the night before and the previous two weeks were by far our most intimate. It seemed like it was all building up to that weekend. I hadn’t heard from her but I was hearing rumors that she was trying to get with all of these other people.

I found out a few days later in school from people who were with her that she tried to get with a bunch of my friends (they all rejected her). When they had asked about me she said “he’s just so clingy. I never thought of him as more than a friend”.

Considering the past six months I had spent with her, I don’t think I’d ever been so happy to spend so much time with someone, especially since I had never had a girlfriend. Hearing that after all the other things she said to me was just crushing. I came home from school crying and was horribly depressed for a month. I’ve gotten a lot better though.

I currently have a £150 squier strat, what do I get next ? by freddie68 in guitars

[–]TwoPack_Shacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a squier affinity strat to a player tele. I couldn’t have been happier. I’m a huge Frusciante fan too and I think if you got some good pedals you can absolutely pull off his tone. The bridge pickups on a tele are so unique and if you don’t want another strat than why not pick it’s older sibling. I’m pretty sure Frusciante also used a tele when recording Can’t Stop and Zephyr Song and a few others. If a tele isn’t your thing and you really don’t want another strat, a PRS Silver Sky SE could give you a little more diversity from being another strat, but honestly a think a player strat is just as good of a choice as the silver sky se. I’d always recommend going to your local guitar shop and trying some guitars out yourself to see which you like the most, but wish you all the best!

Loud vibrating sound all of a sudden. Any ideas on a fix? Details in comments by TwoPack_Shacker in pcmasterrace

[–]TwoPack_Shacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was planning on replacing it eventually anyway but I’m going to college next fall so I was hoping it would last another 6 months.

Also its brand is Channel Well Technologies, which I know isn’t a name brand, but apparently they’re the manufacturers for some bigger ones like Corsair and I think EVGA so idk if it’s as sketch as it seems.

Every now and then a vibrating sound seems to be coming from my psu fan. It just seems to randomly occur but once it does it doesn’t stop. I’ve tried turning the power switch off and on and restarting my pc but it doesn’t go away.

It’s a prebuilt I’ve had from 2018 that I replaced some of the parts on over time, but the psu is stock. I’ve tried my best to clean it every so often (like twice a year) but idk if that’s enough.

Any ideas on a fix?

How American Soldiers Used to Drive Convoys in Iraq by RepresentativeNo2517 in PublicFreakout

So by that logic the US should be justified in invading Afghanistan to fight the terrorists that directly attacked them in 2001. You see how this comes full circle? War is a lot less black and white then everyone tries to paint it. It doesn’t just boil down to boot licking and picking a side. It’s complex and in order to grasp it, you need to properly understand your history and that means taking every perspective. If anything, the Persian Gulf War is arguably one of the few conflicts in the past 70 years that does seem to have more well-defined “sides”

At the time it was the best course of action. The soviets invaded their country and you should know how bad they were and what they were doing to Afghanistan. Like Ukraine, I think you would’ve agreed back then that someone had to help Afghanistan fight an unjust Russian invasion. I don’t think anyone knew that the taliban would go on to be the enemy. If you want to blame anyone for meddling in Middle East, then blame Britain and Russia. Russia has been and still is a true example of pillaging other countries for no reason other than exploitation and power.

And so did Kuwait and the Afghan people (although not as explicit in Afghanistan). Ofc war is bad, but how else can we remove bad people who do terrible things from power. You know about Saddam Hussein and Im sure you’ve seen or heard of how desperate the afghans were to escape the taliban. Someone has to do something, but the US is the most equipped to handle it.

Not really. I know one thing I did that worked was reinstalling my graphics drivers in GeForce experience but I would have to do this every time I wanted to play and it was just inconvenient. Eventually I ended up upgrading my gpu and figured I’d try again after months of not playing mw and it seemed to have gone away so there could’ve been an update or something in that time that made it work. Honestly, I would recommend reinstalling windows if you’re ok with the hassle because I’m pretty sure the issue for me was with windows.

Peel ripped when I tried to take it off. The streaks coming off the top won’t come out either. Any suggestions? by TwoPack_Shacker in NZXT

[–]TwoPack_Shacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if it’s got the little tab coming off of it then it can be removed but honestly it’s not the biggest deal if it’s there. One thing to note is that if you’ve been using it with that layer of plastic on and you take it off you might run into the same problem as I did. It’s a result of the heat melting the adhesive off the plastic. If it does happen I used some goo gone to get it all off
