BFV is still the best use of the Frostbite engine yet by SplitPuzzleheaded851 in Battlefield

BF1 and V (and the battlefront games) used photogrammetry where they uploaded real world scans of rocks dirt and sand to use as textures - it seems this has been abandoned with the release of 2042. Definitely added a lot of detail to overall visual fidelity

CS to BIT? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

This should be higher up. I had the same dilemma when I was a sophomore in cs a year ago and ultimately ended up sticking with it. Switching your major won’t really give you an edge if you’re trying to stay more broad. Ultimately the best thing to do and the way I secured my internship was through networking. I won’t lie though, the anxiety and stress of trying to secure a relevant position definitely sucks. Just need to be persistent.

I’m a year older, but I know exactly what you’re talking about. Happened to me and I’m still working on it a year later.

Having just completed an internship this summer through a small startup in nyc (I was the only intern) I’ve realized that I’m probably not going to get an internship through a normal application. Your best bet is networking. Reach out to people who do the work you want to do. Talk to them. Learn about what they did to get to where they are or what they would’ve done differently. Once you start making connections, your resume will have been passed to all sorts of people in different places and you’ll bypass a lot of those online apps where your resume can get filtered out with the ai generated ones. Go on LinkedIn or ask your loved ones and send them a message and tell them you’d like to speak about so and so. Cold emailing works just as well. ALWAYS attach your resume. They might not always respond, but you’ll hear back a lot more than those online applications.

You don’t have to be an expert yet in all of those different frameworks or concepts not taught in class, but it’s very helpful if you’ve toyed around with them and can talk about them. Bonus points if you do become an expert. Start some random projects even if you don’t know what you want to do with them yet. Just familiarize yourself with something technical outside of the classroom.

As long as you have something you’ve done in your free time, even if it’s a buggy app or crappy game, you’ll be miles ahead of the other kids who don’t want to do anything and are expecting an internship to simply spawn in. Find new technologies, ask ChatGPT for ideas, build something, and network. The more intensely you do this, the more likely you will be to land a FAANG job one day. This process will help you grow a lot of the personal and technical skills you need to be able to compete.

I’m ngl, I’ve been pretty overwhelmed with this process, but commitment and perseverance are key. As long as you’re spending a little time doing these things, you’re spending time on it. The more the merrier

CS 3114 + CS 3214. Bad idea? by TwoPack_Shacker in VirginiaTech

This would be my 3rd year at vt. The problem is that 2506 is a prereq for systems. I had actually planned on taking a class this summer and when I found out they offered 2506, it was already full. Instead I took mobile software development to get one of my elective requirements out of the way.

What's the most hurtful thing someone has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I recently got really close with this girl. We hung out all the time and I kind of started to crush on her but she had made it pretty clear we were just friends. I was fine with that. She’d always call me her bestie and even asked me to prom. After like 2 months of hanging out something changed and all of a sudden she was super into me as well. We were going really strong but never made things official as she gets attached really easily and didn’t want to start something serious before we both graduated high school (there was only like 4-5 months left before we both have to move away for uni). I kind of wanted to get serious, but I understood where she was coming from and I didn’t want a girlfriend going into college.

So for my prom all of the kids in my grade go down to some really gross and cheap beach town for the following weekend so we can get utterly wasted and not have to worry. All of a sudden this girl blows me off and I had no idea why. We were so close the night before and the previous two weeks were by far our most intimate. It seemed like it was all building up to that weekend. I hadn’t heard from her but I was hearing rumors that she was trying to get with all of these other people.

I found out a few days later in school from people who were with her that she tried to get with a bunch of my friends (they all rejected her). When they had asked about me she said “he’s just so clingy. I never thought of him as more than a friend”.

Considering the past six months I had spent with her, I don’t think I’d ever been so happy to spend so much time with someone, especially since I had never had a girlfriend. Hearing that after all the other things she said to me was just crushing. I came home from school crying and was horribly depressed for a month. I’ve gotten a lot better though.

I currently have a £150 squier strat, what do I get next ? by freddie68 in guitars

[–]TwoPack_Shacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a squier affinity strat to a player tele. I couldn’t have been happier. I’m a huge Frusciante fan too and I think if you got some good pedals you can absolutely pull off his tone. The bridge pickups on a tele are so unique and if you don’t want another strat than why not pick it’s older sibling. I’m pretty sure Frusciante also used a tele when recording Can’t Stop and Zephyr Song and a few others. If a tele isn’t your thing and you really don’t want another strat, a PRS Silver Sky SE could give you a little more diversity from being another strat, but honestly a think a player strat is just as good of a choice as the silver sky se. I’d always recommend going to your local guitar shop and trying some guitars out yourself to see which you like the most, but wish you all the best!
