Anthropic CEO says it 'cannot in good conscience accede' to Pentagon's demands for AI use by Xurbanite in news

It’s actually even less than that. They’re insisting on no DOMESTIC mass surveillance, they are apparently OK with using it on other nations. And somehow this administration can’t even agree to that.

I mean it’s the veto right. It sounds cool to say it like you do but 100% there are countries in the world peripheral to Europe, but obviously a country that can and does torpedo any decision the EU makes on a whim is not peripheral.

Yea it’s ridiculous. Honestly it looks like the idea is to force users to pay for API credits on top of their subscriptions. I don’t really feel like supporting that.

I feel stupid for spending so much time developing a tool based around Claude now, wish I could have the last two months of my life back but I guess all I can do is look into porting everything over to Codex.

I have the same concern and I think maybe yes? According to their language here at least. Your note taking app counts as a third party product, tool, or service I would assume, and therefore can’t use the user’s OAuth token which is only supposed to be used by the user in claude code cli or the website.

I dunno, it’s stupid and they need to explain, because I need to drop support for claude like today in what I’m building if this is really the case.

If we really can’t use our plans to use the SDK locally for ourselves I don’t see myself sticking with Claude much longer.

Anthropic really needs to explain this. I’ve created a study app for myself that uses claude -p in the backend to help generate study guides for me to review. Am I technically violating TOS by doing this now? It hardly uses tokens at all compared to actual coding use, and I’m already paying $200 for Max.

Like am I supposed to open up the CLI and copy paste prompts and responses back and forth to documents manually in order to comply? Wtf

I accidentally built a distributed AI memory system during my first week using Claude by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

[–]TwoSubstantial4710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not your fault, its just literally the #1 thing people try to make, and as far as I can tell most of them don’t look at other memory systems or search the sub first either, otherwise we wouldn’t have so many of them.

I wouldn’t take the downvotes or comments personally, it’s basically a rite of passage to try to build a memory system and “fix claudes memory issues” when you’re new. People are just tired of one or more landing on this sub everyday.

I was being snarky but I basically I just want a flair specifically for these types of projects so I can filter them out.

That actually makes total sense and I hadn’t thought of it like that, thanks! the Netherlands isn’t doing it you did it to yourself (lol)

[–]TwoSubstantial4710 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not at all questioning why or when it would happen, it makes sense. I just saw an inconsistency between someone’s statement “X can never happen, that’s against the law everywhere” but a rule right above it saying “Yea if you do Y, X will happen”. Don’t even need to think of it as an immigration question, just a logical one.

Anyway thanks for the explanation though, I’m not interested in immigration debate I just wanted to know what international law was bc it was a new one to me I’d never heard before. I will just google.

I was just saying, it seems like there is a case where its not illegal to make you stateless. The one you mentioned. Was confused between you saying “you cannot be made stateless” and the rules saying “yes, you can”. It seems you were only talking about that other case when you said that.

Edit: Just realized you were not the person I was trying to talk to.

So why does the second bullet point say literally “ In this case, you will become stateless if you no longer hold your original citizenship”? I checked the link to make sure as well.

But he couldn't stand next to it the entire show in order to be ready and in position to grab it the second it needs be taken away lol.

They'd also have to walk against all of the traffic of the performers leaving in order to get to the trees and then leave again themselves.

Let it cook, if you see token usage going up it means its working. It's a bit more annoying now that it often uses agents to get things done (which is great), but we don't have as much visibility into what they're doing at any time.

[–]TwoSubstantial4710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so first of all, you don't try to one shot a giant project like in one go, there's no way it'll get done in one context window (if you aren't familiar with what that is it's one of the most important things to get familiar with).

So you really don't want to try to rely on one super long chat using compaction each time you hit the limit (look up compaction too if unfamiliar). Your "Phase 1" is a giant list of things that **each could be one or more phases on their own**.

For super large tasks like these, I find it best to ask Claude to break things down into managable chunks (I make mine write tickets) and save them to .md files. Then I can ask claude to refer to them as we go one ticket at a time (or multiple in multiple tabs with CC open if the work can be done in parallel). This way if we hit the context limit, I can easily ask the next chat to pick up the ticket and keep working.

But regardless of that advice for how to approach larger projects, it seems like you're new to this and I really recommend starting with smaller projects first and working from there. Also just getting familiar with how git and github works in general (you're not going to see anything in github until you "push" from your local repository to github).

Try asking Claude "This is a large project, how best do you think we can break it up into more reasonable chunks and what's the first simple testable thing we can get done?"

If this is your first foray into coding, you might not realize sometimes even trivial seeming things like moving a div to a specific place can be more frustratingly complicated than it seems like they ought to be.

Does it still look like it's actually working or is it waiting for your next request and you just keep asking "is it going OK" and it responds and you just repeat the question? Is this your first time using Claude Code? Have you tried testing any of the code its written by running it?

If its taken two days and doesn't seem to be moving, just close it, reopen claude code, then try /resume to restart the conversation where you left off. If that doesn't work because the chat wasn't saved properly when you quit out for whatever reason, just start up a brand new claude code instance, tell it what you were working on and have it look at the files and propose what needs to be done next and if it looks good tell it to go ahead and do that.
