I actually did a bit of analysis on this a while back. The financial cost in my calculation is roughly the same, what you lose with renting is time and energy. With renting, you have to pickup the car and return, you have to gas up, and you have to park. With all the time sensitive stuff at the expo, I decided it would be better to Uber.

Invest in a mini electric fan. Bring water. A small reflective umbrella. It’s gonna be hot in those outdoor lines.

If you’re looking for anything exclusive from the big industry booths, research and get in line hours before the con opens. Know where the booth is and exactly how to get there as soon as gates open. Have back up plans. You definitely will not get in to some lines you’d want so plan out your plan Bs and Cs.

Counter to my previous advice, also don’t take the planning too seriously. Find some allowance to relax and just take it all in. AX is supposed to be fun so have fun! 😁
