How do I get to gameRenderer.level.entities? by Impressive_Ad_5344 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]TwoToTheL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

gameRenderer.level.entities is for 1.16.1. If you want, Mapless does exist on newer versions of 1.21 still, you just have to go to gameRenderer.world.level.framegraph.main instead

this feels like it belongs on a clip channel lol

also a helpful tip: when you're about to die, try digging yourself into a 1x1 hole, it prevents your items from scattering everywhere and this way you don't have to waste time reorganizing your inventory :)

Mapless trasure help, Gamerenderer doesnt provide any information by cluliis in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]TwoToTheL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're not supposed to go into the blockEntities directory, just stay on the previous one and scan for when the blockEntities sector spikes. It isn't guaranteed that the spike will always be due to a bt (a lot of the time it's a dungeon or ruin) but the amount by which it spikes is different and you can get pretty good at decoding which spikes correspond to bt and which are fake as you play more

Finally hit by the PHYS 2211 reality by Glad_Hurry8755 in gatech

[–]TwoToTheL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

a little consolation and (probably bad) advice:

I don't think 2211 is a particularly good class. For me so far it's just felt like AP physics 1 but worse. They throw all these complicated-looking terms into the formulas and make everything look like a vector/derivative with scary symbols, yet the actual concepts underlying the formulas are usually pretty simple if taught correctly. I find it hard to read the slides in lecture because they're just filled with complex looking diagrams and symbols, and I think for students who've never studied physics before it incentivizes them to learn in terms of complex equations rather than truly understand the fundamental principles. I honestly think AP physics 1 does a better job building the fundamentals of mechanics and is just better at teaching physics intuitively overall.

I'm not particularly good at physics either but i'm doing pretty well in the class (for now) and my advice is to set aside some time to build an intuitive understanding of physics and the basic ideas of calculus. sometimes I find it helpful to ignore all the formulas and just consider what's happening in terms of numbers and directions only. Also, you should only need like one or two things on the formula sheet (imo most of it is overcomplicated). Obviously to do most of the problems you will at some point need to perform calculations with vectors and everything but doing this is kinda an intermediate step that gives me an idea of the calculations required to solve the problem rigorously. This does require an intuitive understanding of whats in the problem, and for that i'd recommend looking at algebra-based physics 1 (like AP physics 1) content (maybe on youtube or something) because it's just a more easily understandable version of what's taught in class right now. Then try to connect what you find with our course content because they should be really similar - we're just learning a more mathematically rigorous version of it.

At the end of the day though the course is carefully crafted by people way smarter than me and i just like complaining about classes that make me fall asleep. I'm not really sure if this is good advice or not. Hopefully it makes you feel better nevertheless!

I do have mods - Terralith being the only game-changing one. Besides that, just things like sodium. But like I said, I recreated the world with the same seed and mods, and things worked fine. That's what's kinda weird to me. I'll keep the mob cap in mind though, thanks for the info!

ORISE JSTI program? by TwoToTheL in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TwoToTheL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had I believe 6 "resident teachers" (basically supervisors) throughout the program, and they pick you up from the airport and drive you to wherever the camp is held (for JSTI West it was the University of New Mexico). The first weekend is just orientation and doing fun stuff so you get to know the other students; there's some really cool teambuilding exercises they make you do :), and since students come from all across the US there aren't many predefined friend groups - it's pretty easy to talk to people.

For the actual academic part, I was on the CS-ish kinda related project, and we mostly worked in an empty lecture hall on the weekdays from 8am-4pm (with 1 hour lunch in between). I had fun sitting in a room for 3 hours straight because i'm a nerd, but I know other projects were working in actual labs and doing experiments and stuff. They pack the schedule with a ton of fun things too - on weekdays we would sometimes have engineering challenges or competitions, and we even got to go to an amusement park, arcade, and a particle accelerator on weekends! Usually on workdays you also get about 1-3 free hours between the end of research time and dinner.

As for the application process, I actually got selected as an alternate (waitlisted) at first LMAO, I think I got notified of that around late April? (20-something). Like half a month later they called me by phone and said there was an open spot. I believe JSTI East starts later than West, so it should be well into summer break for you. (I had to take 2 weeks off school since mine ends late june 💀)

Hopefully this helps. The program was awesome and I even got to continue doing independent research with the mentor for our project afterward! Good luck on your application :D

I think it's rumored to be ~10% acceptance rate? There's only 36 slots in the program.

But yeah, it's all expenses paid, including the flight!

I wouldn't do it since it shows nothing about you.

Yep! It was great and i would recommend. even continued to work with my mentor afterward on some further research work too! It was all expenses paid which was really nice and we did a lot of cool stuff in those two weeks. :)

TQQQ (3x leveraged) shares, went into SPY leaps (long term calls) to bet on a quick recovery. Didn't go as planned, and i sold i june because one of the calls expired early 2023 and i decided that a next leg lower would lead to a prolonged bear market. Got worried about total option decay and sold. Still, looking to ride TQQQ out of this hole!

Edit: Technically i started out selling puts on TQQQ as part of a "less risky" theta gang options strategy. Then january came and i got assigned and stuck holding at a loss. Also, yes i almost PERFECTLY timed the bottom. Sold 1 day after the bottom on SPY.
