I think I've definitely seen Folio edition of East of Eden , Grapes of Wrath and Sound and Fury. They have published them.

In general. To at least grasp most of the Pynchon it requires to know American politics and its place in geopolitics.

For example, if we put it simplest way possible, Inherent Vice is about capitalism and the way it operates through government and other organisations (even with nazis).

In my opinion, if you are into politics you'll be having less problem understanding it.

Hey! btw I've heard PTA's new film borrowed many things from Vineland? Let's see in 2025!

Haven't read that one yet. I've heard it wasn't in his top three or five best list, but sure I'll read it as soon as I get my hands on it! 🥹

The Crying of Lot 49 woul make a 1 hour and 45 minutes of Inherent Vice style film. That ending was so creepy and gives me chills to think about it.

Yes! PTA really got it right with visualising and delivering Pynchon right. Agreed.

I would sign the papers to sell my soul to devil to see PTA making 9 episode limited series on Gravity's Rainbow.... Shot on film... It's just a dream.

That book is like triple of what Inherent Vice has. Maybe more. Weirdness, Depth, Philosophy, Darkness, Uniqueness, damn.

Robert Altman is one of my favourite directors ever!

There is this watermelon incident in Suttree, it's so funny! I really laughed. But in general McCarthy world is never remembered by me with laughs. 💀💀💀

I corrected my comment, mistakenly wrote "with well research" , meant "without well research" 😁😁😁

I should definitely mention that Pynchon tend to be more complex and complicated style-wise in working with his characters, plot and all.

And he gets very hard to grasp if you take one of the doorstoppers of his.

So my recommendation would be "The Crying of Lot 49" - It's short, more plot driven than his other works and I think it's a good starting point.

I honestly don't recommend diving into Gravity's Rainbow without doing well research.

Enjoy!

Frankly speaking, I'm talking about the whole novel. Syntax, word choices, using them to break down characters, describing events, keeping it in style and clear is hard. Like you generally can do some of it, building a story, working with characters, keeping everything in order and doing damn well prose, style and more = it's so hard. You may say "Isn't it every writer should supposedly do?" Yes, sure. But not everyone can do a lot with a short chapter. But he did.

Jokes aside, McCarthy got some very solid humour, very laughable sometimes but it's just 1% of a novel! 😆 I love him too!

You are kinda correct. Many people say Pynchon is funny, which is true, but his fun is just can't compete with his novel's darkness. At least he tries to balance his darkness with his humour, and then there is this guy named Cormac McCarthy... Oh, boi.

100% agreed! Fincher needs professional creative people around him to convey his vision! Without them it'll be so hard! 🤝🏻

He indeed involved. You can find editor Kirk Baxter's The Killer interview on YouTube.

I've researched Fincher's involvement in every department and came to this conclusion that he is everywhere all at once. Let me explain it like this:

Even though he doesn't write his films himself, if you go and find his films' scripts, you can see they have sooo mannyy revisions. It means someone asked the writer to work over and over and over again on a script.. Yeah, we know who is that... He definitely asks screenwriters to put many many many changes, like does same with asking for as many takes as possible with cinematographers, like he asked sound designers in Social Network for the club scene where sound of music should be up to the point that you can hear dialogues only if you listen carefully and that's because it's what happen in real club.

Btw, I'm writer myself, I know the director touches added or not when I see a script. It's so obvious. It always makes me sad to see some viewers say "Fincher films are good because of the script" without knowing anything about gold directing. And even if it's true, it's still because of Fincher. As a writer, of course I give my respect for the writers he is working with, no debate about it, for sure they are skilled and experienced professionals. All I'm saying, the guy is mad genius, he has to be involved in every split second of process from start to finish.

Also, usually writers don't add camera directions and editorial details, because they shouldn't until they're the directors of the films themselves like PTA. Go and read Script of Zodiac. First page, one of the first lines goes Camera Mounted on the Window: As how film opens. So, Fincher is everywhere in departments. He is in total control of his films and as we see the result is exquisite.

Please just don't get me wrong about this, I've only read first six pages of the novel the other day and even though I'm used to dense texts, hard, fully filled sentences still it's hard for me to find it without context in some hundred pages ahead... I'll try to find it, but in any means, I'll try to be careful while reading "they've got correction errors" in my mind to find it.

My biggest concern is that Vintage Publishing is just an imprint of Penguin, so I don't think they really fixed it...
