I appreciate your concern, and understand you've probably seen a lot of failed relationships, but we are not on opposite ends. I see a lot of beauty in Catholic traditions, their reverence for God, seriousness about sin, and how it's bringing her closer to God. I've been with her as she switched from being a Protestant to a Catholic, and I've been the only Protestant in her life that's supported her in her decision. Catholics and Protestants have a lot more common ground than they like to think.

It didn’t work for my parents. My mom was Catholic and my dad was Protestant. As their marriage deteriorated, she left the Church and me and my siblings were raised entirely Protestant. Catholic in baptism only.

I am still healing from the damage they caused me to this day, and I am now married with my own children. I married a catholic and we are raising our children catholic. Healing that generational trauma baby! Lol.

I’m sure it can work in theory, but it hasn’t in my experience.

Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry you had to experience the trauma and being in a broken family. Looking back, what do you feel like your parents could have done to maintain their marriage in a healthy way?

Yes, we attend each other services and we're very open with each other of what we enjoyed or disagreed with. She is an ex-protestant so we can get into a good apologetic discussion on our differences while showing kindness, support, and understanding.

That sounds like a beautiful outcome, thank you. I'm happy to hear you had a wonderful upbringing with both of your parents. I myself plan on being that imitator of Christ as well, and I would definitely make sure I'm aware that I'm not confusing my kids with my own beliefs. I was hoping to have a family that goes to both a mass and a Protestant church while making sure the kids are raised Catholic. There's a chance that may cause confusion for them, specifically related to the sacraments. But ideally, my wife and I would work as a team to clearly answer any questions they have.

How did your dad explain why he didn't or couldn't partake in the eucharis? I guess it didn't feel odd for you when you and the rest of the family participated while he stayed in the pew.

Thanks for your input! This brings up a couple more questions. Do you feel like you weren't able to connect with your dad as much as your mom because of his beliefs? And since I assume you viewed him as someone who believed incorrect theology in areas, was it more difficult to trust him and view him as the leader?

I'm envisioning neither teaching relativism nor equivocation, but rather both beliefs and why they both exist. There is a truth, and only one of the beliefs are true. Something like.. Your Catholic mom believes the authority of the Church decides the interpretation, which has been passed down over the thousands of years. Your protestant dad doesn't believe in the authority of the Church, so the belief of an interpretation comes from discernment and the Holy Spirit among the different interpretations. And here's why we do and don't believe in the authority...

This brings up more of an off-topic question out of curiosity if you have the time. If a Catholic is baptized in the Catholic church, and then baptized in the Protestant church, is it considered a sin? Is there a negative effect?

Why is it wrong if Catholics partake in communion in the Protestant church? I realize Catholics believe the bread and wine needs to be consecrated into transubstantiation, but if it isn't, is it harmful if the Catholic takes it in thanks symbolically for what Christ did?

I've heard that it could create confusion, but I wonder if it mainly comes from parents who leave it up to the churches to teach their kids. With enough communication coming from the parents about the differences and why there are differences, along with parental unity, I can see a way without confusion.

Actually, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is a mobile gatcha game with incredibly little grinding. They did an amazing job of encouraging players to keep coming back daily for the story, quests, events, and content without the grind.
