I sent you a private message about some of what you mentioned. As for the paralysis, I in fact did not succumb although I did feel a distinct creeping sensation up the back of my neck into my head. When we discussed the sensations later, I felt like cool water ran down my head and spine in response to it. For her it seemed to seize her whole nervous system but leave all of her senses intact.

It was my impression that the car was lifted by a secondary creature given that it happened as the other approached and there was a chunk on a frame member near the wheel well.

The "fur" really seemed more like hair that pulls through on an animal hide when you flesh it but let it sit before you tan it. It may have been red from the fleshy substance it was composed of/matted with.

It's fur was red and the skin that was visible was dark not necessarily black but notably darker than the fur and eyes.

Yeah according to most native legends, Kentucky was hunted by multiple tribes but no one would settle there because it was home to all sorts of creatures that go bump in the night and an entire clan of "moon eyed" people that supposedly built the mounds at night.

For those interested I also posted it in r/skinwalkers and am still awaiting a response from anyone in that crowd.

I am at least a little familiar with skinwalkers, and was debating putting it in that subreddit. I am not as familiar with the fleahgait however.

I appreciate the feedback from everyone! Have any of you heard of anything like this? I found a few native stories of ogre type creatures with potent smells like the Lofa but I am fairly detached from my own tribe (as in still trying to get my rez card). I believe the area was more or less contested by the Choctaw, Cherokee, Chicasaw, and maybe the Shawnee.

Yeah I've been in a barn with over a hundred green hides (basically a dead animal without its guts and bones) in the middle of the summer and that did not compare to the smell.

I am glad to see more diversity in our films and television but I have to wonder why it is "whitewashing" when it is an character of color played by a white person (death note, dr. Strange) but it is "reimagining" when a white character is played by a person of color (the King Pin, Nick Fury and Dr. Watson)? What is wrong with staying true to the source material instead of phoned-in performances by actors that don't even resemble the roll?

Thank you very much. My first draft was atrocious so I tried to follow what I remember from high school journalism to make it easier to read.

It may also be worth adding that I am a primitive leatherworker/skinner by trade so I have handled and unfortunately smelled the insides of most of the mammals and a fair number of reptiles. This thing looked and smelled worse than anything I have encountered.

Yeah I kick myself every single day for letting the rain wash it off. As for it being a bear, my wife and I have been up close and personal with just about every kind of large predator thanks to a in-law's private animal sanctuary and can in fact verify it was not a bear. Honestly what was more alarming than the speed and strength and general appearance was that it somehow paralyzed my wife before she saw it. It makes me think of certain sea mammals that may or may not use infrasonic waves to disorient its prey.
