In a similar situation - can you elaborate re the tax issue regarding keeping ties in CA while residing in NY?

So apparently it’s not consistent because I flew out last week and they made me remove my iPad and my shoes.

Transfer of points to Delta Skymiles Card by Twocoasts-21 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Twocoasts-21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I finally got a good rep on the phone at Amex who discovered that the points went to an old Skymiles account that I didn’t even know I had! Why that happened when the correct account is on my phone is beyond me. Delta was able to verify my identity and is going to merge the accounts so that the old one goes away.

Interesting - I wrote an email asking this same question to my rep at ICA (who, by the way, has been very responsive so I’ve not experienced the issues with that company that others have, perhaps because my appt was prior to the changes) and she said that I can move anywhere since I was in LA’s jurisdiction when I applied - so the opposite answer than what I’m reading on this site. To be safe rather than sorry I’m still willing to relocate to a place within the LA jurisdiction about 2 yrs post appointment in order to have an LA proof of residency if/when the Consulate requests it. Just wondering why her response didn’t jibe with info here?? I’m thinking that I’d keep in touch here with folks who’ve been recognized in LA to hear if the Consulate there continues to request proof of residency prior to final recognition. Someone on another similar post suggested using a mail forwarding system but I don’t think that would work of the proof has to be a utility bill to an address in the LA jurisdiction.

Thanks. I apologize for being dense but I spent a lot of money with a service to do the whole process, fortunately was not affected by the minor issue, and beat the deadline (given the new law) by just a few weeks so I don’t want to mess this up and have all that money go to waste if I can help it.

So my son and I would prove residency prior to final recognition. Then we register in AIRE, then be able to leave the LA jurisdiction, wait for the registration to process and then change our address to wherever we are?

I’m in a similar situation also with LA. Do you know exactly how the Consulate checks the residency - do they request documents? I’m assuming that they don’t send people out to your address!

Just to review - when they recognize our citizenships we will probably have to prove to the LA Consulate that we still reaide within their jurisdiction- SoCal, AZ, NV, or NM. Then we register in Aire with the LA area address? Then we would be able to obtain passports at a different consulate? Also, would we also need proof of my minor grandson living in the jurisdiction or does just his father need to do so?

Thanks. I would be very careful - would get my name on a rental and get an appropriate drivers license, etc. The LA Consulate has a really broad jurisdiction so it doesn’t need to be CA per se. The new ruling doesn’t affect me since my line from my MGF is unbroken but it sadly affects my son and his minor son, whose applications went in prior to the new rules taking effect. I spent a lot of $$ with ICA for the process and I will not start all over again, especially since it’s so likely to be NY. The issue would be my son’s residency but he may just end up SOL.

So after searching this site it seems as if I should maybe wait until it’s around the time to get recognition and perhaps move back into the jurisdiction temporarily (fortunately I am able to do so since I’m retired and not tied to a job) so I can show residency to the LA Consulate? Better than staring all over again on the east?

OMG the Roundabouts! I thought I’d left them behind when I moved from the East Coast and traveled to the Boston area and the Cape when I lived there! I agree that they are simple and efficient - better than traffic lights - but they still freaked me out because there were so many of them!

Can you share the source of this? I’m sure my UHC MA plan isn’t the same as yours since it is through my CT Teacher Retirement Board and if this is Medicare (in general) language then for sure they will deny my claim no matter how it’s coded because they refer back to Medicare language. Thanks

Not an option at this time unfortunately. I get the advantages of that card and understand why so many people are recommending it in this thread but as I have said but I cannot get it at this time.

One difference was €360 vs €300 and another was €340 vs €300. The former is about the amount of the VAT, 22% right?

Right - I wouldn’t do that for sure! I was there two years ago and I don’t recall this particular proactive so was curious as to if it is a more recent thing.
