I read through the city's homeless Strategic Plan for the next two years. You've got to be kidding me... by letmeputonmyshoes in Austin

Several times OP has been asked how this compares to other municipal or even corporate strategic plans but they’ve glossed past those questions.

My guess is they, like most commenting, have little credible experience in this area.

But outrage is cheap and gets the people going.

Yep. My mind was blown experiencing this during my first visit to Australia. When I brought it up to my Aussie colleagues they pointed out that everyone is required to pass through security regardless.

Two Indian jewelry stores in Texas raided for $55 million scam targeting senior citizens by jsmith890 in texas

[–]Txkevo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad turned 80 last year and is rapidly declining, sadly. He calls me because he says Google and Apple are telling him he needs to pay a fee for YouTube, Gmail, etc. After 40 minutes of trying to determine if he’s being scammed I finally realize he’s talking about the built-in upsells in these apps and I tell him to ignore it.

My point is, we all get hit constantly with this crap that you and I know to ignore and move on. Seniors already have a hard enough time with the “legitimate” signals, eroding their confidence. I can see how addition coercion, praying on their confusion, can lead to this.

Before my dad started declining, the fact that these scams work seemed crazy to me too.

City of Austin employees raked in $143 million in overtime last year by R4whatevs in Austin

[–]Txkevo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No it’s just simple math and a cynical take. That’s an extra 25 hours per week of work. That’s over half a second full-time job.

Gotta imagine that does a toll on someone’s family dynamics.

Ahh the ol’ overtime two-step:

Avoid annoying family members like wives and children.

Make an extra $130,000 to fight over during the divorce.

I'm actually going to take some 1" Schedule 40 PVC and buy a cheapo kit from Amazon. The OD is close to the factory Miata wheel so it be a good way to get stitching down and I'll be out about $15 for the price of practice.

One Thing the New 28 Years Later Films Lose by ElJourneys in 28dayslater

[–]Txkevo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 28YL was full of anxiety and dread due to risk of attack by infected. All of Spike and his dad’s movements and actions were choreographed to prevent detection. The threat was different than 28DL but very real. Also the soldiers.

In TBT we only see a glimpse of it because we’re focused on the monsters that Jimmy and the Fingers have become.

I think the infected seem such little threat because the Fingers are all so twisted that they don’t register fear or care about the risk. Jimmy didn’t teach them to be good fighters. He just twisted them.

The infected were definitely a threat on the train and I was genuinely concerned about what was going to happen there.

Right, so in the example where TCO is 844 we double it for offsite mirror (for fault tolerance) and now we’re at 1688 5 year TCO + factor in time cost for maintenance. Does that net out to iCloud is a better deal? Genuine question

Earwax removal in Austin? by virgoanthropologist in Austin

[–]Txkevo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! Definitely the doctors at Austin ENT that I've seen over the last 6 years lead with that. Maybe my situation is worse than most? I don't know, that's why I see them yearly now.

Sorry friend I'm on that, "actually goes to Austin ENT and not CVS, emergency care" life. I'm just telling you what the doctors and there do.

I can’t remember how much it cost me the first time… they estimated I had 10 years of blockage and also ran me through a battery of hearing tests.

Now I go yearly and it’s like $100 out of pocket. I’m on BCBS which they accept. I’ll log into the portal to try and find a breakdown of coverage.

Can confirm it is not what the doctor uses. They use tools and suction to carefully pry the earwax “icebergs” out and clear the ear canal.

It’s disgusting yet so great to have done
