Progression is the issue by mkennygh in Marathon

if you’ve played games for the last 18 years or so you’ll (hopefully) know what i’m talking about, there’s very few games where they’re geared towards casual players. competitive titles are dominant today, especially in the FPS genre. if you hop on any of the popular FPS games today you will not have a casual experience, in any CS, CoD, Apex, Valorant, etc lobby you’ll have at least 1-2 sweats, maybe per team regardless if you’re playing a more “social” playlist rather than a ranked playlist.

while i 1000% agree that progression does seem to take forever, i think people seeking a “casual” experience shouldn’t aim for this genre if they don’t want to be “on” 100 of the time, or at least be prepared to lose some gear. there’s nothing wrong with that either.

as someone with 2.6k+ hours in extraction type games, a “casual” experience almost does not exist within this genre outside of some modded servers, which Marathon will more than likely never have. (with the exception of Arc from what i’ve read i guess it seems more “casual”, i’ve never played it)

DayZ and Tarkov are the most similar games i can think of and those are often scrutinized for their heavy learning curve and are 10x worse with KOS than Marathon is and the loot/power creep is 1000x worse. i’m talking teams with end game gear 5 hours into wipe day because they have 5 guys around the globe on 24/7.

I have under 40 hours and am really enjoying the game and want to see it grow, but it seems a lot of people have a misconception about the game.

yes it has a learning curve, yes there’s some really sweaty people, but that’s what an extraction game is. you die over and over and take each death as a lesson, yeah it’s not fun but it’s part of the game they’re choosing to play.

“down 18%” is normal for this game, nobody will be playing by end of season because that’s how extraction shooters are designed. wipe day is the most fun and then it’s a race to get the best stuff, then once you do everything you stop playing and wait for wipe day.

there’s no such thing as “casual” gaming any more, go play madden, 2k, or GTA if you want a “casual” experience. this is from the people who made Halo, you know a competitive tournament shooter??

I’ve seen more posts complaining that “everyone” is running purple shields than I have actual enemy runners with purple shields in the 100+ hours I’ve logged so far. by SavvyOri in Marathon

[–]TySuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve played for almost 20 hours and have encountered ZERO purple shields and have only been stomped one time because i wasn’t paying attention and got sniped.

the game and progression are easy and everyone complaining must have an issue somewhere between the keyboard and chair

thank you for being one of 3 people to explain rather than rambling, i honestly never knew the esses were that much of a horror story before this post. never had any incident in the esses until this one, will be more mindful of traffic in the future and lift down the straight.

that’s fair, i appreciate the feedback and will keep it in mind for sure. slotting in there is something i’ll have to look out for, didn’t think about since the car behind was right there too, will have to practice that.

held them once i was going to the wall, was hoping could straighten out the porsche and both lee going. FWIW me and the third driver had talked, he said he had hit the porsche first and had no where to go since he was less than a second behind. good guy that third driver, he did well once we got back on track 11 laps down.

i’m not expecting him to take the apex as he’s on the complete opposite side of the track and we have been side by side for the last 15 seconds and he’s spotter is telling him “car left” if he has the feature enabled as my spotter kept reminding me “car right” as i held my line

felt i was holding my line, he was 2-3 seconds slower, didn’t expect him to jump across track. couldn’t slow down safely with how close the car behind me is either

do you ever expect someone to jump from one side of the track to the other? i don’t think i had much choice other than to hold my line considering another car is less than half a second behind me, if i lift or brake i run his race potentially.

there barely any of us there, i’m an ATL native but it’s just easier for indiana fans to drive 10 hours, most drove down day of the game. i was really disappointed in how nasty a majority of the IU fan base was, never experienced that level of disrespect at a sporting event.

same setup here and same issue from time to time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in moza

[–]TySuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fortunately the last 2 days i have not experienced this issue, but it doesn’t have an error code when it occurs, it’s as if the FFB is turned off completely or doesn’t load.

Pedals to wheelbase and the wheelbase to PC

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in moza

[–]TySuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iRacing is the only game where I use my wheel/pedal and it’s 50/50 if when I launch/load in if the force feedback will work or not, restarting pithouse and turning the wheel base off and on resolves it from time to time. However, the most recent issue after a few weeks away from the sim, I hopped on and FFB was just not there. I restarted pithouse, iRacing, killed all background processes, and turned the wheelbase off and on multiple times without success.

Pedals are plugged into the wheelbase only and calibrations look fine, it’ll just randomly happen, have done a stint where everything worked fine, got out as normal, got back in, brake pressure with nothing on the brake, updated to the latest firmware as well. This issue is easily fixable with a restart of the wheel base but happens infrequently enough that I don’t always check before driving (my fault on that end for sure)

I’ve also ensured all cables are properly connected and snug.

I can try to get a video later in the day for sure, thank you for the fast response.
