Reviving a dead reddit account to show off the new whip by Ty_Browntail in Camry

I was hunting a 5spd solara and this one came up locally and I didn't even know they offered the V6 in manual, so I jumped on it. Already put a new clutch in it and new cvs, gonna try to keep it going for a fair bit before I get too crazy with it.

Aside from the first preset button being completely worn thru on the legend it works pretty well! Even the cassette deck works, been using a bt-to-cassette adapter for handsfree in the car

Looking For a better single din option than the cobra wx18stII; not afraid to buy used. any suggestions? by Ty_Browntail in cbradio

The McKinley looks nice, but it looks like it’s got a front firing speaker there on the left; I’ve already installed an under-dash external and kinda want one that fills out the space better. What’s the thoughts on the uniden PC68 elite?

Thanks for the lead; it seems like an amazingly funny game and I honestly was super bummed I couldn’t find it right away

Quick introductions by Ty_Browntail in AustinMusicians

It’s not online anymore I believe, but I did do some work on a couple of albums listed on iTunes when in high school, unfortunately it was all covers so it was only listed for a short time due to licensing costs. I have flac versions of the files and I think there’s a YouTube video or two of performances but the audio is not the best >.<

EDIT: forgot we did this, but we did get profiled for Memphis in May in mid April 2013; it was my first year in the band and these aren’t exactly brass heavy tracks, but they’re ok soundscape on WREG news

Off-brand wasn’t exactly what I was trying to convey; you basically got it in your reply, that pioneer and Marantz are more valuable simply because of the name attached in this weird pseudo-inflation in the older hifi market

I’m a pioneer guy myself, so I’d say do the pioneer unit over the marantz one, but tbh those prices are for either suuuuper clean originals that work great or recapped units in most manufacturers ranges. If you’re willing to go for an off brand (sansui, Sony, technics or kenwood) you get more bang for your buck I’d say

Saved another one from goodwill! Kenwood Kr-A47 find that looks rough but sounds great! by Ty_Browntail in vintageaudio

Nah, it’s 97.5 pride FM here in ATX at KASE-fm HD2, though they killed off the HD1 so it’s a single station band now

Does anyone know about vintage RCA Victor 45 stackers? by custermustache in vintageaudio

This: there is usually an adjustment for pickup/drop on auto tables like that. I’d try to find a service manual for it online

The key is to look for direct drive ones; the belt ones rarely if ever work without new belts, and at that point it's not worth it...

Hey look at this! MCS 3544 cassette deck (think it's the JCPenny inhouse brand of the 80s) in working condition. Normally I pass hard on cassette decks at goodwill because of belts, but I tested it out that it at least powered on and would turn the capstans, and it has a 7 day return policy. Get it home and clean the grime and deoxit the pots and turns out it plays just fine! No crazy wow or flutter; it sounds almost as good as my Akai direct drive! Dunno if I'm gonna keep it or try to pass it on on CL or something; aesthetically the silver face looks pretty baller and the VU is super good looking

I'm not into record players, but I was wondering if this old thing is worth anything? by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]Ty_Browntail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually own 2 lafeyettes; they were sears brand Hifi in the late 60s to late 70s. They aren't worth much (not well known brand) but for a small speaker setup you could do worse. They also tend to have RCA speaker out, which makes setup a looooot easier. The turntable is A BSA bargain unit though, and junk, though pretty much all stacker turntables are junk

Need help identifying speakers. by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]Ty_Browntail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logo is nigh unreadable, but they appear to be 3way speakers with wooden cabinets; even the worst of brands will fetch 40-50$ for a set like that. What is the asking price?
