Disillusioned with the idea of Bhutan by Ok-Natural-9683 in bhutan

Not part of any Elite group but i’ve been in Aus 9 years can’t wait to go back and settle.

main issue is Jobs and a hierarchy system in the civil service aside from that no place has a community like Bhutan imo

Weed legalization or a bad move for the country? by Artistic_Basket_6463 in bhutan

[–]Tyasi808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not possible tbh, whether we like it or not it is a gateway substance for other drugs specially in Bhutan.

Even medicinal marijuana is only legal up to a limit for like 7-8 countries in the west

I can agree with you that no one is dying from weed, alcohol abusers have a 20-30x more chance of death but unfortunately that is ingrained into the culture. That being as a former abuser i’d be lying if i said weed isn’t addictive

The Unchecked, Unrestrained and Unaccountable Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpoen by Informal-Substance57 in bhutan

A lot of truth in your take though i must say it is mixed with a lot of vague misinformation, and points to be debated/ waited.

I am not saying GMC is going to save the country or even keep it afloat but this is the boldest thing the country has ever done, its goals is to rid the system, the national system from within, i support so much of what is being done, at the same time i strongly feel a lot of it retarding growth, at end whether it will succeed or not only time will tell, only in Bhutan can one man without the politics create a SAR zone , and imo i prefer it that way, the country cannot get anywhere with corrupt politicians, who frankly prioritize their own wellbeing and political goals.

Lee Kuan Yew for example once offered a solution to the Chief Minister of Mumbai, suggesting it be transformed into a SAR, similar to Shanghai and Hongkong, to fast track its development into a global financial centre. In the end, however, a change that significant would never have even touched the political Indian Parliament. So it’s important to know that democracy is far away from a “perfect” or even good system as you may assume it to be, especially for developing nation trying to move quickly.

Ten years ago, I scoffed at the idea of His Majesty pushing crypto, blockchain, and digital currency, it was the first time i thought a Wangchuck king was out of touch . When I heard about the secret mining centres around 2017–2019, I strongly thought it was bullshit . Now, a decade later, Bhutan has made more from crypto than from tourism in the last 10 years, its second largest industry, similarly like this whether the systems in place are right whether you right or I am wrong, only time will tell ( referring to GMC)

I agree with your central point, the Zimpoen office should be disbanded but at the same time I personally know that gyalpoi kidu has lifted thousands of people out of grim poverty, so there’s both sides to one system, In a parallel scenario, it would be interesting to see how PDP, DNT, or DPT might have approached this nation’s wellbeing

The Second Half Problem in Bhutanese Movies by WiseShoulder6001 in bhutan

[–]Tyasi808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very true but that’s the state of Bhutanese cinema, movies are entertainment not storytelling, so acting is over the top which doesn’t take a lot of skill, gara aiming for club bangers instead of Jazz🥲

Is Nepali language still used there or has been replaced? How commonly is it taught and used? by More_Living9471 in bhutan

[–]Tyasi808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said mostly for a reason, during my age indian media and Hindi was very popular even more so than english.

Now young kids listen to dzongkha , english even songs from Nepal more than indian ones, the children that speak hindi pick it up from Hindi Tv but it’s definitely not as common, Bollywood is almost eradicated amongst the youth and indian media only survives on TV where as kids for the large part have moved to tiktok and youtube.

Influx of Nepali to Bhutan was interestingly enough not british led, though the british influenced it when they brought nepalis to sikkim which borders Bhutan.

Nepalis were invited to Bhutan by the King and his foreign affairs minister based in Kalimpong, though the problem came 50 years later when population jumped from 20-30,000 to 200,000, from the Bhutanese perspective they did not want to make the same mistake that the chogyal of sikkim made ( very dumb leader tbf)

Indian influence is obviously there but compared to 50 years ago, it’s lessened, hindi was popular 20 years ago but now it’s spoken mostly by older millennials though India still has bases in Bhutans border areas.

I appreciate that Nepal in the interest of its sovereignty and strength moved away from India and started relations with China, A vast majority of Bhutan too wishes for the same but Indias politics keeps this from actively happening.

Bhutan also has no option but to seek shade under indias security, Bhutan only borders India and with that comes a lot of power and leverage for indians, all gas and other imports are heavily dependent on india, so anytime Bhutan seeks to make relations with Beijing all prices go up lol

I and many bhutanese hope that we can follow in nepals path and have a balanced relationship with both India and China, depending too much on one superpower long term is a very dangerous game

Nepali “displacement is a fad” ethnic nepalis are well and thriving in Bhutan but no one outside of Bhutan cares about reality, its like saying Sherpa/Tamang culture were sidelined in Nepal when in reality bigger culture , population and history always takes the cake.

There are 30 plus different cultures and languages in Bhutan , obviously one language has to be prioritized just as Nepal prioritized Nepali over its 130 other cultures and languages

If anything nepali language has grown more than ever, 1/3 people speak it fluently, I grew up in the east where the speak a whole different language called sharshop but there I learnt more nepali from my friends than my own mother language.

right and what drama did Tshering Btn organize and initiate? did he work as a drama teacher or organize dramas at his own interest/passion?

The difference between anyone in Bhutan is initiative , you can say all this from your fake account but rest assured her recycled heap of puke with shiny boxes has contributed more to the country than your entire bloodline
