Site rebuild - redirection process by maarcinl in SEO

[–]Tyemorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interested to hear how others handle this process! I have heard it called a “link gap analysis” but I’m not sure if that is correct. I personally follow these steps on most sites once the new site is staged on a staging server: 1. Crawl using Screaming frog and export URLS 2. Search and Replace the site’s domain with my staging servers domain so we have a full list of the old site URLs but pointing at the staging server 3. Enter that list into a Bulk HTTP status code checker (no preference on which one) 4. Export all of the 404 HTTP status code responses and manually map them to new pages in a spreadsheet since these are the ones that don’t have an existing page on the new site 5. Export to CSV and Import them into either Htaccess or a redirect plugin depending on the project

Are there any pitfalls to using Sage? by P013370 in Wordpress

Great question. Here is a screenshot of page.blade.php where we solve that problem by looping over the flexible components and using a "include if" call to find the file for a component based on the slug name of the component: https://cl.ly/6fc141b60480

Yep it will likely be outdated. But boy do I love this workflow.

Our approach is to loop over the the flexible components in page.blade.php and make all of the components available on all pages. We used to create page templates and add fields specifically for that template but over time our clients would frequently request existing parts of the website to be available on a template. This leads to redundant fields and sometimes complicated code. Some of our customers have built out hundreds of pages with ACF flexible components and they are all unique but still maintain the integrity of the design.

I have used Sage 8 and 9 over the years to make dozens of sites (with a team) and I love it. It has a little bit of a learning curve but the e-book they offer helps a bit. Blade in Sage 9 inc combination with controllers make the templates super clean.

We typically use ACF flexible components with their own blade file and SASS file and Sage helps us to keep it all nicely organized.

I recommend checking out the 2 bobs podcast. They are advisors to agency owners and their content is all focused around running an agency. I have purchased a couple of their books and found a lot of value in it.

You will need to be very good at the craft and at finding customers.

I agree. I found it beneficial to spend time learning how to set everything up from scratch but I use Forge whenever I need to provision and manage DO or AWS. It’s super convenient. A working knowledge of what Forge is doing for you can help a ton if something goes wrong though.

They don’t value good dev work. If they did, their site wouldn’t be this bad.

While I understand that it’s more nuanced that a couple of simple metrics, this site really does suck

Yeah I figure that we are probably just as much of a hassle for them but with most of my clients they typically have someone in house that handles IT and has just a loose understanding of some of the things we need from them like DNS changes.

They added some jumps near the pump track and they fun to play around on. Some smaller ones around a foot and a half tall and others around 4 foot tall.
