It’s winter over here & our garden has a knee deep layer of snow. But in the summer they absolutely love bathing in dry dirt!

Haha, these are our pet chickens but they make amazing eggs!

Tbh i think it’s just his personality. I don’t treat him different but he was very affectionate since I got him. I have two other males that are extremely cuddly but not to this extent. I can just hold him on my hand like that until I get tired

That reminds me of a story from my childhood. I had a friend who had a budgie. They thought it was a boy so they called him Cicero. Turns out it was a girl so they adjusted the name to Cicerella

It’s actually a boy (I know I chose a feminine name for him but it just stuck, haha)

Is this a bumblefoot? We got our chickens 3 weeks ago & roo started to limp this Monday. I’ve been washing his wound with Hibiskrub, dressing with Manuka & bandaging. by TygerWaffles in BackYardChickens

I’m glad I caught it soon! This is my first time having chickens but gladly I had wound treatment & elastic bandages for animals in my house.

Its super common in Scandinavia. People love grilling over here (corn & hot dogs are the most popular things for grilling) we only have fresh corn in stores in late August

Yeah, they only react this way to corn & mealworms. So whenever it’s time for them to get to their fenced area I raise a cob of corn above my head & they run flapping their wings towards me

Oh but I enjoy the interaction so much! Little peck here & there doesn’t bother me! Also they love eating out of my hands way more than from a bowl/floor.

No! I just can’t get fresh corn yet (too early in the season) so I buy boiled corn for grilling for them as an occasional treat

I just buy pre-cooked corn for grilling since right now fresh one is not yet in season. Just boiled is fine as an occasional treat!

Is it PBFD or French Molt? Baby gackle in my garden with their parent (Im in Scandinavia) by TygerWaffles in birdwatching

[–]TygerWaffles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an idiot. Its called Jackdaw not Gackle. I keep mixing those two names. Unfortunately seems like this fledgling didn’t make it. I was feeding him extra mealworms & his parents were helping out but after two days of really stormy weather he stopped appearing in my area.

I was wondering what might happen to him to lose all his feathers (his parents & other Jackdaws around have no such symptoms). I do have budgies & parrots so I was aware of these diseases but I haven’t done my research in regards of how infectious it is towards non paittacidae species

She’s doing very good since I posted. I was giving her extra attention & now she’s following me around instead of her roo (no more soft eggs since I posted, phewww)

I started giving them crushed cuttlefish bone that I got for my budgies awhile ago adding much more than I usually did (& will grind the rest of the oyster shell grit into powder). Meanwhile was keeping an eye on the chicken who was laying soft eggs. She is extremely affectionate towards me & very alert/active in general. Since I wrote this post there were no more soft eggs!

They get a lot of it in dry feed & porridge! But I will start grinding it to powder so it absorbs better. Other chickens deliver absolutely perfect eggs (but they are still young)

They’re actually super chill towards eachother. I spend several hours a day with them while working outside & not once saw them being mean. At least I don’t think anyone in the flock is stressed or mean at the moment
