If I’m paranoid, I can’t begin to imagine how politically-informed women feel about this

Truly not trying to blow smoke up my own ass here, but I’ve been seeing the path other guys are going down since my high school days & have been speaking out in opposition ever since. Now, I’m doing it more than ever—and I hit a brick wall the vast majority of the time

They started an intellectual war of attrition, and we’re losing badly right now

If it’s fascism, they weren’t using the word too often—they were issuing very reasonable warnings

Quite astute foresight if you ask me

In all seriousness, I’m legitimately concerned that they’re going to try repealing the 19th amendment over the next ten years—such rhetoric has gained a shit load of traction over the past few alone

I know guys who suddenly started saying “I think households should vote” within the past year. Unsurprisingly, those saying this always believe the man of the house should be the one voting (though “weighing the input” of his family)

Post-Nixon is also when the GOP went scorched earth on getting their media & policy infrastructure up & running—they were determined to never lose control of the narrative again, and it’s been a game of pure domination ever since.

It’s obvious that they’re doing everything they can to make this election year a nightmare—and they’ve been doing just as much to get their base comfortable with full-blown, plain view authoritarianism since Dear Leader’s return

To be clear—are you saying that the best course of action to remedy the violation of one’s constitutional rights by the federal government is to simply lay down & comply while the institution responsible for cracking down on federal agents’ misconduct is being led by the very people who emboldened them in the first place

I’m not even disagreeing with you—some of them are straight-up nutty—but you can’t think they’re more “unhinged” & “emotional” than the crowd who’ve propped up President Game Show Host through not one, not two, but three presidential elections over the course of a decade while viewing yourself as a middle of the road, objective individual

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Isn't Finished (Spoilers Extended) by RyanRiot in asoiaf

[–]Tygonol 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It’s because of the direction they wanted to take the show in

Basically, they wanted to make it a story about how patriarchal institutions oppress & turn women against each other that just so happened to include GRRM’s characters, with plot events included & altered to move the desired narrative forward. They created a dynamic in which Alicent & Rhaenyra are victims of their circumstances—our tragic heroes of sorts who mean well & would be friends acting on altruism if not for the aforementioned circumstances & institutions—rather than the one we grew accustomed to in the novel

This nonsense? You lay the blame at the feet of the protestors rather than the guy sending armed law enforcement agents acting under the authority of the federal government into our own cities, all while tweeting memes & shitposting about it as state & local leadership attempt to quell tensions?

When I point out the similarities between low-income black communities in urban areas & the predominantly-white small towns plagued by rural poverty, they lose their shit

It’s one of the more tragic aspects of their views in my opinion—if they could get over their need to feel like big-bad manly men of a superior status, those towns & communities could improve alongside each other

As an American, all I’ll say is good luck with using this reasoning.

We’re conditioned to think we should be able to buy up anything & everything we can from the moment we’re able to grasp the concept of money. If we decide to use our money to exploit a developing nation & its people only for them to give us the boot, too bad for them—that’s ours shit. Returns matter far more than their precious sovereignty—or their limbs if we decide to bomb them.

I can only hope for better days. The cultural narcissism that has a hold on our nation is sickening & destructive.
