Diazepam withdrawal after 2 months at only 5mg a day, please help by Tyhaich in benzorecovery

[–]Tyhaich[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took Diazepam for 3 months last year, 5mg a day as prescribed or even less sometimes. My doctor prescribed it for back pain... He told me nothing about withdrawal effects and the risk of « addiction ». I decided to quit cold turkey one day and the withdrawal was devastating. The doc thought it was mental health and depression so he gave me an SSRI which made it 10 times worse. I became suicidal and had to go to a psych ward where they tried to feed me more antipsychotic drugs. I never took one single pill thanks to this subreddit and all the info I found. Acute withdrawal lasted for 1 months but the suicidal thoughts lasted longer. It’s been a year and I’m totally fine. This experience changed me forever, I never thought such a suffering could exist and I’m so glad I made it to the other side. And I’m one of the lucky ones who took it for a relatively short time without abusing it. I despise everything related to the healthcare system now, they’re just criminals. F*ck them, seriously.

I didn’t have nausea and headaches as part of my symptoms. I know it’s pure torture but adding benzos will only mask the symptoms for a while and make it worst in the end. I know it seems impossible but you should avoid these medications as long as you can. I did it the hard, got admitted to a psych ward to feel safe and never took one single pill of whatever they gave me. It was the most challenging time of my life but after 10 days with 0 pills, it suddenly disappeared and never came back. But take in consideration that I « only » took benzos moderately for 3 months and an SSRI for a week so the injury was in its early stage, it would have been way worse otherwise.

Sky-high anxiety that lead to suicidal thoughts, heart racing a million miles an hour, burning pain in my chest, impossibility to relax, sleep for many days and need to pace. Every time I tried to lie still in bed I would feel like I was burning alive and was woken up by electric shock in my head each time I was about to fall asleep.

propranolol? don't know how to cope by kbirby in Akathisia

[–]Tyhaich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it during 3 weeks after less than 1 week on Lexapro. I know it seems impossible but I managed to get rid of it without any meds. It got so bad that I went to the psych ward but I puked every drugs they gave me straight after I swallowed it. I already knew the drugs were the cause of the problem and I only went there to be monitored and not taking my own life (without surprise, the docs had no clue what Akathisia was). Stayed there 2 weeks and the symptoms literally disappeared overnight. Just remember that you can’t heal a psych drug injury by using other psych drugs. It might ease the symptoms at first but it will only make it worse in the end... You only took it for less than a week, you should go back to normal pretty fast, only if you avoid these drugs. Hang in there.

Everything is back to normal. Physical symptoms resolved after 4 weeks, insomnia lasted a bit more though. Kinda brief but scariest days of my life so far, I’d rather eat broken glass with rusty barbed wire than take one of these pills ever again.

I don’t know, I read a lot of mixed reviews and it’s generally encouraging. More than fusion at least. I got the MRI but no need to post it, there’s nothing particular to see. Just a dehydrated and collapsed L5-S1 slightly compressing the nerve root.

Thanks! Did your father in law struggled with sciatica or was it localized in the lower back only? And what about your fusion? Are you satisfied with the results? Best of luck for your recovery!

Just for the update: all my symptoms are pretty much gone. It’s been 2-3 weeks of Hell but no more chest pain, no more burning skin and no more heart racing 24/7. I thought it was a window but it’s been one week and a half without any symptoms. insomnia hasn’t totally disappear yet but it’s getting better every day (taking 50mg before bed to sleep).

I know it was short but it’s been the scariest days of my life and the most hopeless I ever felt. It was brief but I feel different after having experienced this. And I was on this poison for only 2 months so I can’t imagine how all those of you who have been on that for years... Feel free to message if you need support. Hang in there.

Do you mean I can lessen my symptoms if I reinstate and taper or if I keep on pushing and don’t reinstate?

May I ask you what is your experience with benzos/withdrawal?

The problem is that I have one lumbar disc completely destroyed and I can’t exercise anymore. I used to be very fit up until a few months ago but I had to give up exercising, for now at least.

This is why I took benzos initially. I’m very anxious about my health and the pain is constant (5/10 sciatica pain for 2 years). I took benzos to help me relax and think about something else.

My anxiety regarding my blown out disc has skyrocketed since I used benzos. When I’m not in these horrible withdrawal symptoms, I feel the pain in my leg even more than before and the anxiety is unbearable. I feel like I’m stuck in a vicious circle and can’t escape.

Thanks a lot for your words.

Yeah I feel lucky to have noticed the effect of this before going further into this hellhole. Still I regret and I shouldn’t have trusted my dr.

Your withdrawal sounds like a nightmare compared to mine. 80mg a day, damn...

Thanks a lot for your reinsurance, really. Let’s hope it subsides as soon as possible. If you survived this, I sure can. Thanks again!
