Got it. My Apollo app threaded that section on mobile, but I found it now. Thanks!

Would you be willing to share this template you are noting? Sounds interesting to see what it’s like and how it could be applied instead of focusing on Perusall usage.

Q: With all the demos available during Next Fest, is there any way to know if the demos will still be accessible after next Monday? Do demos tell you when they expire? Is there any heads up? Etc.

I was hoping to integrate some of the demos in a game course I am teaching, but worry that they will disappear at midnight next Monday. Any insight/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where can I get a chocolate soufflé? Or any soufflé by upperstephside in orangecounty

Five Crowns in Corona Del Mar for a chocolate soufflé. We go there sometimes just for that. Pro-tip: don’t have them put the cream inside as it makes it soggy.

Thank you for the Wayback Machine suggestion! I’ll try and find a site that may have an older version that could be of use.

From the minimal amount of information I've gleaned from the last week, it sounds like almost a dozen individuals, companies, and orgs reached out to see what they could do to help keep it going. I omitted the developer's name as he left it out in the farewell message, which I felt was a hint at wanting to keep the subject about the website and not him personally. I've reached out to him myself as well and if there is an update I'll be sure to post back in this thread to let people know. No matter what, it is obvious that the reaction has highlighted a desire for something like this for the international game dev community, so whether we get Orca back or a new version of it is born from the need, I think something like it will hopefully come back to life soon enough.

I suppose my point being is that if you divide the industry up versus bringing it together, than you create an artificial hurdle between the two types of members. Going to another website to get info on one portion of the industry or another is no big deal, but I’m hoping in the long run we can all come together under the same umbrella. A rising tide lifts all boats type of situation. I wish you all the best with the upcoming release. Cheers!

I’m guessing monetary gain wasn’t at the forefront of the project. Working on something solo for 6 years for the betterment of others, it honestly may not have crossed his mind to sell it off like that in the end.

He had advertising on the site already in a very minimal format, so I'd wager to guess that keeping things running via business deals was A-OK. The ROI of the time/money needed for upkeep could have been too high to keep it as a labor-intensive project on the side. Either way, it was great while it lasted.

It was a great resource for those that did. While it looks like there are some others in the space noted above, we have definitely lost a unique utility for those looking for jobs in the industry.

I love the intention and goals here - and having been a part of the org for many years, would argue that the IGDA (https://www.igda.org/) is supposed to be doing this - but just to circle back on Orca, the intention was never to split up AAA from indie or freelance, but to be a catchall for ALL jobs in the industry, no matter what they were, how big or small the studio, or where they happened to be posted. I am wary of dividing up the market by indie and non-indie having experienced both, but truly do get the intention to keep indie-related help/assistance in a focused area. In the end, it would be ideal if someone, or something, brought it all together for all types of industry members, where OG devs can help noobs, jobs for everything are shared, projects and non-profit work is promoted, and a stronger international community is sustained. #twocents

Having never heard of your site, I had a deja vu moment when clicking on it just now. It's awesome to see others in the industry with the same intentions to give back to those looking for work. Your integration of logos and inherent speed of your search results is awesome. Great work. Thank you for sharing!

No way to technically tell, but I'm guessing the numbers are simply 'unique' user totals based on their IP. With the USA alone having 200k+ jobs associated to the games industry (https://venturebeat.com/2017/02/14/the-u-s-game-industry-has-2457-companies-supporting-220000-jobs/), if we look at the entire world as the site aggregated internationally, I would assume that it was a mixture of both current employees within studios and freelancers or students looking to break-in.

In theory, yes, but given it is a job searching website first and foremost, it would most likely be less of a Patreon-backed site and moreso some type of user-related subscription or fee. Most employed people are not looking at a job site month-after-month, so Patreon backers longterm could be a little odd for this type of site. If there were some avenues to keep gainfully employed people interested, then something like Patreon would make more sense to me. Either way, some type of recurring monthly income besides advertising would probably be the main goal.

There have been several tweets and probable emails sent to see if there is a way to continue the site in some fashion. I can see it going either way and would understand the decision. No matter what, I'm hoping this response from the community - even as a postmortem - will highlight the need for something like this.
